The John Deere 270B Backhoe on my 2032R (2038R) John Deere compact tractor continues to leak down or sag when in storage creating installation challenges. It is a pain to deal with, but I demonstrate how I have go about getting it back on to the tractor. I've found this approach to be quick especially when I'm heading off to use the backhoe vs just moving it as I am here. I've been told this is also referred to as hydraulic drift and is common in all sizes of tractors and equipment.

Nice job. The Jack worked well

I've got it shimmed like crazy now... will see how that works out. I just hate screwing with it... when i'm ready to load it up and use it, I'm ready to go, not to deal with all the hassle.

Why not place a 6x6 or some type of blocking to the rear when you unhook it, so then you don't have to worry about getting the jack under it.

That’s exactly what I’ve been doing with mine. Sucks that it’s necessary but easiest solution I’ve found
@HardyBrothersOutdoors

Good idea Tim. I’ve tried blocking a few ways and still had issues. I have it shimmed like crazy right now and the last weekend I checked it and it was holding up. Will find the right placement and side with some more trial and error. Thanks for the idea!

I have the 385a backhoe for my 3039r and have the same issue. Blocking didn’t work because the leverage of the bucket just rocked it up on the blocking and made it even higher. My solution is to wedge a 2x4 right into the underside of the “elbow” joint and down to a flat 2x6 on the ground. Think of an upside down T. That will hold it up.

@@garyiannone8925 good suggestion! I had a similar issue with the blocking and was thinking maybe I had it in the wrong spot. Will try your approach! Thanks for watching and commenting.

Strap it
@davemay6014
@davemay6014 3 года назад
I always set the backhoe on something. I use 3 vehicles dollies ( 2 under the backhoe frame & 1 under the bucket & then use a ratchet strap to hold the bucket in from leaking down. That has been what has worked for me. I always wiggle all the levers on the backhoe & loader controls when I turn the tractor off to relieve any pressure in the lines. Once she is on the dollies & strapped together I can move it around.
@HardyBrothersOutdoors
@HardyBrothersOutdoors 3 года назад
Are you using dollies on the 270B or do you have a 260B? I didn’t think you could set the 270B on anything. Would love to be able to move it and store it on a dolly.
@davemay6014
@davemay6014 3 года назад
@@HardyBrothersOutdoors I do have a 260B, however after looking at your backhoe you could still do a similar setup with vehicle dollies/furniture dollies OR build a custom dolly.
@HardyBrothersOutdoors
@HardyBrothersOutdoors 3 года назад
@@davemay6014 if you get a chance, shoot me a photo of your set up... you can send to hardy.brothers.outdoors@gmail.com part of my challenge with the leak down is you can't get the tractor over the frame mount that locks under the middle of the tractor. Unless the dolly would allow for it to be lowered flush to the ground I'm not sure how you'd accomplish it. I think the 260B doesn't have this additional mounting bracket which allows it to just mount to the back. Thanks for the feedback!

I have the same setup. I've had the same BH tilt issue also. Now, I make sure the bucket is tilted all the way out. If it collapes It's a bitch, cuz I can't get close enough to hook up the power beyond. Sometimes, the BH hooks up like a dream, and other times NOT(damn pins), just like the drive over mower deck! Good informative video!!
@HardyBrothersOutdoors
@HardyBrothersOutdoors 3 года назад
When they work they are amazing... When they don't i want to pull my hair out. That said, I have an older compact Massey Ferguson and i was just reflecting on how incredibly difficult it was to drop the mower deck and wrestle it out from under it. So while the drive on mid-mount can be troublesome it is fantastic when it works... haha... Thanks for watching and commenting!

My friend has the same tractor and backhoe . He uses a heavy duty ratchet strap from bucket too main frame . Stores it in his trailer and when he goes too back up and hook it up it is always in same position when he unhooked it . In industry even high end hydraulics drift over time with load or just hanging suspended .No load no drift 👍

Thanks for the idea. I may try that with some blocking and see if that fixes my problem. Appreciate the suggestion! Thanks!

Has only happened once to me and I just backed my rear tire up onto the subframe where gravity could take over and then I could drop the boom. Then I could pull forward and hook up like usual.
@HardyBrothersOutdoors
@HardyBrothersOutdoors 3 года назад
Gotcha, good idea on your approach. I guess the only advantage with how i'm doing it is only having to hook up and unhook the hydraulics once... I have a new video coming soon that shows some of the suggested approaches that were given to me by viewers and which ones are working well...
@daviddodier8845
@daviddodier8845 3 года назад
@@HardyBrothersOutdoors Same. Once. Back onto subframe slightly, just enough to level the frame. Pull the parking brake. Move the lever for the boom, gravity drops the boom and bucket back to the ground. Drive off and hook up normally.
@HardyBrothersOutdoors
@HardyBrothersOutdoors 3 года назад
@@daviddodier8845 oh wow, I gotcha now... that sounds super simple... may have to add that to my video as an even better approach... i think i had tried to use my bucket to push down the frame but didn't move the handle to get the bucket to drop.

Just one of the reason I don’t have a backhoe for my 2038R Another is the dealer wanted around $8000 for it. I can rent an excavator a lot of times and the time going to get it is made up by how much faster I get my work done. To each his own tho and you that have them I kind of envy you but I am happy with the decision I made lol
@HardyBrothersOutdoors
@HardyBrothersOutdoors 3 года назад
Yeh in my review of the backhoe I talk about that trade off. I like having it when I want to use it right now but a trackhoe would be much better of a tool, this thing takes up lot of storage space and I’ve only used it a dozen times in 3.5 years. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@jimbennett1519
@jimbennett1519 3 года назад
@@HardyBrothersOutdoors having it on demand so to speak is actually the only benefit I can agree with but that is a huge cash expenditure for that luxury. I think that even if I was using mine for making money outside my property I would still rent an excavator
@HardyBrothersOutdoors
@HardyBrothersOutdoors 3 года назад
It’s about 1.5 hr round trip for me to pick up and the same to drop off a rental so that played into my decision to purchase. I’m limited to my weekends on the property so carving out 3 hrs to pick up and return was going to make it prohibitive for me, especially when they have to be returned on a Monday which would mean not heading home Sunday night. But as said before I agree a Trackhoe is probably a better tool for the job.

I hook my hoses up and lift it on with the hydraulics so much easier
@HardyBrothersOutdoors

That may have worked. My issue was I could r get it under the tractor so I’m not sure I could have gotten close enough to hook up. I now use a 2x6 that I wedge on so it can’t sag.

Cribbing

I've tried a few approaches. Last round with some cribbing seemed to hold for about 3 weeks and would have probably longer but put the hoe on for ballast while plowing.
