107 : Legendary Atlanta choreographer/ dancer Marc Jones recalls Sweet Gum Head &Illusions. 

I remember him I had just first moved to Atlanta in 1982 when they did production numbers. I didn’t know anything about drag shows until I saw illusions. I appreciated them at the highest.

Thank you for this. You've made me young again. Mark and I know each other, but it's been about 100 years. I was 16 the first time I ever walked into the Gum Head. I go back as far as Diamond Lil & R.C. Cola, and that was 42 years ago. I was the redneck kid with the rifle in the back window of my pickup, from the burbs. I knew many of the performers, Charlie, of course, who was relatively new to the scene at that time. Tiffany Arieagus was there occasionally and even a performer I loved, Joanie DuBois, but by far, truth be told, I was secretly in love with Tasha Wallis. All of the shows at Gum Head were amazing and Illusions was fun, but Mark and "The Girls," one Halloween, in the late 70s, performed Manhattan Transfer's "Twilight Zone," at the Gum Head. I can CLEARLY remember EVERY SECOND of that performance. They did it in the dark, very minimal lightning, and all held flashlights during the entire performance. It's weird to say that all these many years later, I can distinctly remember every second... Even under the influence. 😜. If any of the performers, happen to see this, and Mark too, I loved you all. You provided an outlet that I would have otherwise NEVER even known existed.
