First, she danced with the President Obama and the First Lady … then, she turned 107 … now, she’s dancing and learning tricks with the Harlem Globetrotters.
Virginia McLaurin met up with Moose Weekes and Zeus McClurkin at Roots Public Charter School, where she still volunteers in Washington, D.C.
Ms. McLaurin’s family and friends set up a fundraising page for her so that “we can all help her have the resources she needs to live comfortably and to continue her active role in the community.” To help, go to www.youcaring.....
Moose and Zeus presented Ms. McLaurin with a personalized #107 jersey and donated 107 tickets for students to see the Globetrotters when they play four games in DC and Fairfax this weekend.
The Globetrotters spoke to the students about positive attributes that Ms. McLaurin demonstrates. As the “Ambassadors of Goodwill,” the Globetrotters share Ms. McLaurin’s philosophy and energy she showed at The White House last month (video). They believe you need to “keep moving,” stay active, be enthusiastic, have a positive attitude, and celebrate black history.
Ms. McLaurin is 17 years older than the Harlem Globetrotters after celebrating her 107th birthday on Saturday, March 12. The Globetrotters are in their 90th year.
The Globetrotters bring four games to the DC area this weekend:
Friday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m.: EagleBank Arena in Fairfax
Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m.: Verizon Center in DC
Saturday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. EagleBank Arena in Fairfax
Sunday, March 20 at 2 p.m.: EagleBank Arena in Fairfax
