1080 Snowboarding Retrospective Review (N64) 

Dude the intro was epic

This game still holds up well, I think, especially through emulation on PC, because you get HD resolution, anti-aliasing, and cpu overclocking (to get rid of those nasty slowdowns). I played it last night. Hours went by without me even noticing. Such a good game. I freaking love that emulation is getting better and better. Preservaaatioooon!!

Your intro was lit!!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥 I actually started wondering for half a second how you were able to get such good graphics before I realized you were doing a character knockoff. EPIC! This game was the bomb when it came out dude!!!! I used to spend hours with my cousins playing this on the weekends!!! I miss the 80s and 90s!!!

Got this in the morning before school and played it for 5 minutes and thought about it all day. Got it for my kids recently.

I've played this game so much I basically have the entire game committed to muscle memory. Back when I used to play this, I eventually learned which jumps had weird landings and what angle I needed on the board in order to stick the landing, and yeah there's quite a few that don't entirely make sense. The ice half-pipe on deadly falls is also a *real* annoyance, you can forget trying to maintain any high level of control there.

Yes! Oh man, you killed me with your interpretations of the music. Me and my friend used to give up trying to figure it out and just go with what we heard. Great results.

The music in this game is what I call _snowboarding music!_ Not that lame relaxing piano stuff that some snowboarding games insist on using, but actual fast and intense heavy metal and dance/techno tracks.

I was so hype when I did my first 1080. Eventually, I became an expert and could do them practically at will.

The drum and bass is excellent.

This game is seriously on my top ten games of all time.

That intro was so good!! 😂 I mainly played half pipe on this game, I landed 1080s on good days. You definitely have to work for it but the spin tricks in this game looked so much more realistic than any other snowboarding game at the time. All tricks did

Love this review dude. Waver race 1080 and excitebike are still some of the best racing games out there bc they beautifly skirt the line between arcade and simulation! The landing mechanics may be difficult to get good at but once you understand them its probably the most rewarding snowboard experience to this day. It really respects the sport. I really hope they bring some new games to the table. Btw 1080 is gradient sensitive so at 7:05 you asked why you fell and its bc you were leaning too far forward. Just lean back a bit and your good. It was always a problem spot for me up until I got it on the Wii U lol. 🤣🤣 the lyrics of the songs almost killed me lol

I was amazing at this game back in the day. I could execute perfect runs during racing. And I could destroy high scores. Half pipe was my shit though and I had massive high scores in it. I would do tons of 1080s on the pipe. Played the game so much I could do the tricks without even thinking. Still have the game and my original n64 gear, this makes me want to plug it in and look at my scores and see if I can pick it up again.

My neighbor buddy and I would always walk down to the video store by the supermarket and rent a game to play on his N64. This was one of them, and it was pretty fun. I remember thinking the snowboard trails decals were so advanced. We also used to always sing the one song "Cuh-cuh-cuh-call me... call toll free now... ello, ello, ello... ello"

This game was my childhood, I busted it out all the time to play it alone or with my dad! 😊

its been a while since this video came out, but 1080 was one of my favorite game on n64. Never been able to make a 1080 at that time. It seems its on switch n64 virtual consol now. I should try again there or whip my N64 and play again! Love the intro and the production value is very nice too!

I love this game! I played too much in the 2000s. The 1080º launch was announced on November 21, 1997 at the Nintendo SpaceWorld exhibition fair; until then the game's title was Vertical Edge Snowboarding. Before the game was released, journalists were able to play 1080º at the Nintendo Gamer's Summit in January 1998. 1080º was programmed by the English Giles Goddard and Colin Reed, developed and published by Nintendo, and produced by Shigeru Miyamoto. Goddard and Reed had previously programmed Wave Race 64, which sold over a million copies and was a huge commercial success. Its sequel, Wave Race: Blue Storm, featured characters from 1080º. While developing 1080º, Goddard and Reed used a technique called "skinning" to eliminate the joints between the polygons that made up the characters. His schedule used a combination of standard animation and inverse kinematics, causing the characters to change their appearance during collisions based on what the character collided with, in which direction it collided, and how fast it was when the collision occurred. That is the game that got me into snowboarding when I was a kid.

6:30 tapping z button while landing as you said...that's correct. depending on the ground condition, your board should be angled differently. snow-> your board should be parallel to the ground or slightly lean back ice-> your board should be a little lean forward

I loved 1080 back in the day but I recently got Steep Slope Sliders for Sega Saturn and I actually think its the best of that generations snowboarding games. Cool Boarders series is easily a distant 3rd imo

had this game back in 98, lost it a few years later, re bought it back in 2008 ish when the wii came out, and just took it out a few hours ago to "re-live" the hype since the last time I touched it was around 2012 ish @_@ man, what an experience ~
