1080p vs 4K | Is higher res worth it? 

The reason that most people can’t see a difference here is because RU-vid compresses the video quality to look worse. In person you can tell a lot more of a difference between 1080p and 4k Edit: this is also a 1080p short so telling a difference here is near impossible lol

I just got a 4K monitor. Keep 1080p for performance because upgrading is a drug. You always feel like you need something better. Especially trying not to spend a ton on a graphics card

1080 isn't really bad for gaming. 1080 will look bad in videos but not in games.

In 1080p 1080 pixels In 4k 2160 pixes So it's 2 times more pixels in 4k compared to that in 1080p.

Why 4k games look solid on 1080p tv than 1080p consoles?

1440p with higher refresh rates and g-sync/freesync is a better than 4k, imo.

Resolution doesnt matter as much as pixel density. If your screen is too big for a certain resolution its gonna look bad no matter what resolution it is. Even 1080p can look sharper than 4K if the screen size is right

I use a 120hz 4k 43" tv. Whenever i play fps games i switch to 1080p because it just runs faster. Its weird but i just seem to miss way more shots in 4k. Shame too because some games graphics are amazing in 4k

I think the bigger factor is whether the display is OLED or not. LED washes out colors so that enemies further away that are smaller are more difficult to make out. The higher resolution plus an OLED for the better contrast and clarity, imo makes the difference for picture qualitt.

4k is not 4x more pixels. Hd is 720p, full hd is 1080p, and 4k is 2160p which is twice of full hd or 1080p . The 'p' stands for pixels

1440p is the sweet spot. It runs on a lot of videocards nowadays. I play Red Dead Redemption 2 and Mafia Definitive Edition at 1440p with a 2060 super. Sure it's a decent card still but kinda old. With technology like DLSS, FSR and Xess, 1440p is easier to run. 1080p is still decent tho.

Let me tell you why, first your cellphones are 1080p but that’s not the reason, the real real reason is that older games have 1080p textures and makes no sense, you need a 4k texture pack to make sense

Yeah, this is not at all representible of actually playing those resolutions irl. Tried avatar at home ps5, 4k oled. Tried avatar at a girls place, ps5, 1080p. The graphics were so bad i literally could not see anything past 20 yards. No detail anywhere😂 BUT, after an hour, it started looking just like 4k, because the eyes adjust. Same with framerates. It just takes a while. But some games, like helldivers 2, the textures themselves look like they get downgraded to where they look cheap. On my 1440p monitor, vs 4k tv, the details of the armour look very different. On TV It looks REAL, Halo is another example, the graphics on the reflective surfaces inside the caves and stuff, look insanely good in 4k, not on my monitor. 4k is i no way a must, but if price doesnt matter, then it will make games look just a little bit more real. It makes a heck lot of difference! Almost all AAA titles have crappy anti-aliasing methods! All of them looks terrible, It can only be fixed if you play game at 4K or 2K, downscaled to 1080p for your monitor!

I got a high end pc so I can run 4K on my 42” 4K tv, my set up is a little weird compared to normal set ups cuz my rooms very small so I don’t have the space for a monitor. Either way I play some games in 4K with almost everything maxed out at about 60-70fps. But sometimes I’ll change that to enhanced 1440 p because it’s in the middle of 1440 and 4K, and with my tv I can hardly tell the difference unless I pay attention. So when I need better fps I go down a resolution but I won’t go any lower than that cuz 1440 p looks great but like others have said, in person you can tell there’s a significant difference. These RU-vid videos make the 4k look like what 1440p HDD vs 4K looks like on my tv lol there’s a big difference between plain old 1080p and 4K

Actually the important metric is PPI. Higher PPI is better if you look for a small details in the graphics or just reading a text on the screen.

You can definitely tell in person, especially a pc monitor that is a few inches away from your eyes. I upgraded from 1080p to 1440p and the leap was massive. Everybody tells me that 1440p is the sweet spot for monitors having a balance of visuals with less of a performance hit vs 4k. With my 4070 ti super i play all games in max settings including ray tracing and get 60+ fps at 1440p. Cyberpunk 2077 for example i play on ultra with a ton of visual mods and path tracing using dlss quality with frame gen i get about 60fps on average. I'm waiting to sell my 4070ti super for a 5090 when its released so i can finally make the upgrade to 4k and future proof my pc with the 5090 i just hope they price it similarly to the 4090 😢

there is a clear difference in 1080p and 4k. Just by seeing a gameplay it can be guessed if its running at 1080p or 4k. Yeah if you are trying to show a difference on youtube short thats another case, even 8k will look same as 1080p. I earlier used to play at 1080p and now I play at 4k, and the difference is day and night. The major difference is in clarity .

If you never saw 4k youd be happy with 1080p. Once you go forward its hard to go back. Obviously one day 24k will be better than 4k and 8k. Just dont go forward and see the difference you will be happy with 1080p.

in my opinion, the sharpness gain with 4k is not in relation to the exponentially necessary hardware requirement. i hardly see a real difference either. especially if i sit a little further away from the tv. sure, if 4k becomes standard like 1080p60hz then i will use it, but at the moment i'm not willing to spend a lot of money on it.

4k is worth it if using minimum 43 inch TV, if you're just using 27 inch monitor, its totaly no different with full hd.

Im watching this on a amoled 1440p display and i cant see almost no difference, its just some very small details looking cleaner but if you dont fixate your eyes on that particular small detail you cant even spot it
