1080p vs 720p Projectors - Real World Test of Epson Powerlite Video Projectors 

when i was in high school nokia 6600 was fresh on the shelves. we were shooting hoop videos with vga quality in awe.

i recently changed from a 720p to 1080p projector, and the difference is quite big

wow.. it is exactly what i was looking for.. by the way, do they have the same brightness?

i have a Panasonic PTAE700E i bought 13 years ago i on my third bulb i mostly watch movies on my 4k 65 inch TV ......I did a comparison test with my brothers Epson 1080p projector side by side with my 720p Panasonic and honestly at about 120 inches we both struggled to notice the difference ...yep there is but not a massive jump.....640X360 is the ACTUAL pixel difference but jump to 4K....its next level NO comparison full stop!!.......personally do reckon a 4k laser projector with high lumens the ONLY way to go...BUT super expensive at the moment...but honestly most people only watch bluray or download compressed 1080p files and watch them so 1080p is the best and most affordable option...but i just started my 3rd bulb and have a brand new 4th bulb i scored super cheap!.....so i will stick to the 720p as i have tons of bulb hours i will pick up a 1080p projector in NZ for about $500 in the next 12 months or so as have a decent collection of bluray ...cheers

I guess depends on how far you sit, from about 8ft away I dont think you will notice much difference.

@Nova Halloween I see that 720P is more zoomed than 1080P & 1080P is less zoomed if you know what I mean. That's why I prefer 1080P for the Full HD & sharper image reasons.

was the physical size of the throw different? I have a 720p that is quite small on the wall, and I am wondering if a 1080p from the same distance will be physically larger

Thanks for the comparison on these Epson projector! 1080p projectors offer a significantly sharper image with more detail compared to 720p projectors. This is because they have almost twice the number of pixels (over 2 million pixels compared to about 0.9 million pixels). Imagine a picture made of tiny squares; the more squares you have, the clearer the overall image.

im looking at buying a 720p projector for my first one......i like both the 1080 and 720p.....i can get the 720 for less then $400....that is almost $300 less then the 1080p projector....

But what if my screen is 16:9? Only projectors that support it are either 1280x720 and 1920x1080

Hi , I am trying to decide between the Epson 740hd and the Epson 2040 . Most watching will be from hd satellite via hdmi . I am in Canada and use Bell Xpressvu which is the same equipment as Dish Network . Is there a difference in picture quality if the broadcast is only 720 p ?

Optoma HD20 with Brightness: 1,700 ANSI, Contrast: 4,000:1 and Native Resolution: 1920x1080 Aspect Ratio: 16:9 (HD) vs. BenQ MW519 with Brightness: 2,800 ANSI, Contrast: 13,000:1 and Native Resolution: 1280x800 Aspect Ratio: 16:10 (WXGA)? for movies night... I would go for the Optoma cause the resolution, but Brightness and Contrast are on BenQ side??

I´m watching on a 55" LED TV. So it is obvious the upgrade on the 1080p

The attached photo is of the projector projecting onto my white closet doors. I still have not messed with the settings but I can't wait for our first family movie night on a larger scale. If you have issues with volume not working with your firestick, go into volume settings and you will find your solution there.

Is there any deference if you are far from the images? I mean in a distance where you can't see the pixels!!

I have a question, can you adjust the size of the video? What I mean is make the image smaller? I'm worried my throw ratio could be off and it might over shoot my 90" screen. Thanks!

I think 720 we'll do for most Halloween projections at lest for me.

Nice job . Have you ever seen xga resolution at 4000 lumens? It almost looks good as HD units with lower lumens.... brightness can make a difference or fool your eyes .... do you think contrast makes a big difference also ,overrated?

I guess it just depends I go for perfect amount of brightness in Halloween projections.

Be careful people. Video quality changes also by color software, contrast and lumens of the projector. I wouldn't suggest a projector less than 2000:1 contrast and 3000 lumens! Banggood has soem great 720 and 1080p proejctors starting from 80usd (for the quality 720p ones) and 150 (for the quality 1080p ones). These cheaper projectors often have less sound quality and make more noise.
