Just a kid when this song came out, but I never stopped loving it and I’m in my fifties now. Catchy melody, incredible harmonies and sing-a-long vocals with masterful musicianship - it had it all.
A long, long time ago I had a production company called Green Back Films and I directed this promo. The B&W picture the hero holds up is actually my mother!
10cc were a brilliant band. And very clever with their song writing. Anyone that knows their songs will know just how all their songs tell a story. Brilliant. 👍
Went to see Graham and the band last night. Absolutely superb. Small venue and they smashed it. To your point about the story telling... see Neanderthal Man as Exhibit A !!!
I agree, but I wonder what happened in this story. Did the narrator make it out of those encounters fairly in tact? For the "I don't like I love it", was that the narrator's thoughts or was that him talking the others down? True, it seems he physically made it out, as he got to the pool in the end. But then... I wonder what happened at the end of the last verse, if he did, indeed, try that harvest. It's interesting how this song seems to describe the danger of the place, I don't quite understand the choruses.
The last and likely only time I saw this video was in early 1979. Being a teenager in the late 1970s early 80s was musically diverse and rewarding. 43 years later this song is still amazing. Thank you for posting 10cc.
Why?? I just love this song/band. Brings back sweet memories of my youth. (Can I go back pls? I don't like the world of today) So, I've listened twice, read comments, am I cool now? Really? Hooray. Lol, I'm joking. Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱.
The year the road melted at Ohope Beach. I remember getting a Hokey Pokey Icream and before we had for back to the car the whole thing was melted. In the shade at the motorcamp it was 41.5 C.
I heard this in my car yesterday morning. Since then it has been stuck in my head and I have been singing or humming it. Later that day, I was in a beer taproom and I sang "I don't like reggae" and the gentleman next to me goes "I love it". He said "Great 10cc tune". I go "You know it!"
This song takes me back to my night clubbing days of the early '80's in Zimbabwe. There was a local band, 'Heritage', that used to play this at a night club in called Odettes. I knew the guys in the band and we'd sit listening to the music till the early hours. Good memories!
This is one of the best songs ever made ever!!! I remember I had the 10cc and Godley and Creme "Changing Faces" video cassette tape with "Good Morning Judge" "Englishman in New York" "Dreadlock Holiday" "Wedding Bells" "Feel the Love" "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" "I'm not in Love" "Golden Boy" and more and it was the best thing EVER!!!!! (and I'm a young man btw) 10CC is one of the most amazing musical sounds and styles ever!
My God,listening to this brings back fond memories of listening to the album blasting out on my dad's record player as a young kid.I think I must know just about every song word for word.10cc were a brilliant band.
@MickyMadHatter Thanks 10cc mate Now that explains, why of all bands I associated with NY/US, no other had that distinctive, intricate, subtle British vibe - yep, because they were a British Band !!!
U just cant fathom where the time has gone, i was 11 or 12 when this came out and even at that young age, i thought what a cool tune and in 2021 still sounds terrific.
I heard this for the first time during a Senior year trip to Nassau, Bahamas April 1980, love and listen to it ever since. Reminds me of a special time in my life.
But one day at school a year or two before this came out, someone wrote "CHELSEA FANS ARE A BUNCH OF PUFFS" in great big letters on one of the paths so the Chelsea supporters there were going round in a gang stopping everyone and asking them how they spelt poof, wrong answer and they got beaten up. Naturally,I said "P O O F".
Great advice from the jamican tourist board. Come to Jamaica enjoy the sun, sea and the relaxed lifestyle. By the way you WILL be robbed. No thanks then
@@jannyhilverts6412 They were a great band, but sadly not legendary status. Like even my generation (post 90s) would instantly know The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Queen, etc. But it's really hard I suppose to make hit after hit.
I know this band since 1980, I, m 54 old now and I still listen, fantastic music.. Bands from 80,s, Alan Parsons, camel, Ambrosia, Steely Dan, . I loveeeeee. Greetings from Spain.
2019, and it's still as fabulous as back then.. I saw 4 faces, 1 mad, a brother from the gutter, they looked me up and down a bit then turned to eachother... 🎶🎵🎶
I meet with a few friends on Friday nights, smoke cigars, have a few drinks talk and look up songs we think the others have not heard before. This one I had not heard before. I liked so I added it to my song list. That’s the point of our little exercise.
The music video for the song was directed by Storm Thorgerson.[8] The beach scene in the official video was filmed on the Dorset coast near Charmouth. Golden Cap, the iconic hill and cliff of this region known as the "Jurassic Coast", is visible for a few seconds in the video.
Yeah I know, hilarious...seeing the stones, the dull arse English sky and those cliffs...I don’t know how they thought they could convince people it was Jamaica 🤣 The pool scene was probably some resort nearby...slightly more passable. When he’s strutting at the beginning, they did a better job of making it look tropical but again it was probably somewhere down in Dorset . If they’d actually gone to Jamaica or the West Indies, they’d have single-handedly kicked off the MTV explosion...
@@stephengrimmer35 Aware of that...but she happens to be an attractive female so I'll stick with double entendre. ( check the body language). I guess only 10cc know for sure but going by some of their other songwriting they appear to enjoy double meanings.
Fussion in full swing ! Briliant match of boogie, soul, folk, rock, pop, reggae and rhythm and blues... Amazing composition.. timeless. it will still be legendary song in a hundred years from now...
Check out Wham stuff; the bassist (Deon Estus) was [just found out he died last year :( :( :( ] absolutely fantastic, wow he could move around a fretboard. "Bad Boys", "Young guns (go for it!)" and "Club Tropicana" are my all time favorites. :)
My ears were sooo accustomed to the "I don't like cricket" version it's only now I realised it's actually "I don't like reggae, I love it" after listening to it for over 100 times 😂
Likewise. Never saw it before. I remember searching it on youtube many years ago and just today i came across it. Nice discovery. I Dont like this song. I love it.
