Over the years I've heard several tenors try to sing Moving Up To Gloryland, but NONE of them come close to singing it like Brian Free! Brian's the BEST on that song!
Not only was the vocal lineup unmatched, I forgot how stacked this band was! Taco, Doug, Mark Fain, Kelly Back, Terry McMillan, and Daryll Lecroy. What an amazing time in music history on that stage!
Very true. Most of which went on to become successful studio session players on some of musics biggest recordings (Fain on Skaggs recordings, McMillan on Whitney Houston and major country recordings, etc)
I'm not sure I ever appreciated the versatility that Garry had when I first heard this album. That medley arrangement was packed with so many genres of playing it's hard to wrap my head around the time it took to arrange that. A lot is and will be said about the vocals and the band - I just wanted to give some much needed attention to "Taco" - if it wasn't for Gold City I wouldn't have had any interest in SG music growing up. I distinctly remember the summer all my Michael Jackson posters came down and my autographed GC pictures went up on my wall. I've been forever grateful ever since!
