In this archival footage from 1993, 10TV reporter Marcy Fleisher took a trip to the CBS studios in California to go behind the scenes of "Wheel of Fortune." During the trip, a Columbus native made an appearance on the show.
----
After 41 years and over 8,000 episodes, Pat Sajak made his final turn as the renowned host of “Wheel of Fortune” on Friday, June 7.
The season 41 finale, dubbed the “Thanks for the memories” show, opened on Friday with a clip from Sajak’s first episode as the host of “Wheel of Fortune” in 1981 and closed with Sajak’s warm message of gratitude.
In his farewell message, Sajak thanked the viewers of the beloved game show for granting him the “incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes, night after night, year after year, decade after decade.”
Sajak, 77, also gave a heartfelt thanks to his “professional other half,” Vanna White, who has co-hosted with him for over 40 years and delivered her emotional tribute to Sajak a day earlier.
“We’ve seen a lot of changes in each other’s lives over the years, but we’ve always been there for each other,” he said. “I will miss our nightly closes and her laughter and her good nature. She’s a very special woman.”
Sajak's run as host began in 1981, and he will go out on top as the longest-running host of a single game show in modern TV history.

2:19- Who knew that board had touch-based computer technology as far back as 1993?

I love the Behind the Scenes, even the late Charlie O'Donnell appears in the video. This looks like Cruise Week from Season 11. Vanna looks beautiful back in 1993.

I went to see Wheel of Fortune at the Ohio State Fair in 1997. That was the first time that they took the travel board on the road after changing to the touchscreen. It was fun to watch them. They taped 2 episodes while I was there, and Pat talked to the audience during commercial breaks. At that time, Pat said that the Wheel staff only worked 39 days a year. They squeeze so many games in each day that they don't have to be there all the time.

Nice to see these older clips and seeing how the show was slowly transitioning away from manual labor. TV viewers saw a seamless transition to the next puzzle, but now we see how they changed out the puzzle board after every round. Since 1997, you definitely can see that production costs were lowered tremendously.

That also allowed for more puzzles at the the time and stopped requiring mid/post-round turn arounds for commericals as well. That said...too bad they're not changing the set from that same old one since 2004...if they don't want to change it though...the gold and yellow celebrity set is nicer looking...it reminds me of superior looking their "Turn of the millenium" set.

I prefer the Celebrity set as well, it harkens back to the mid to late 90s sets with the black background and gold for the board and the wheel.

@@KhAnime now if they would just add back a fun set of staircases again like that one night in the early days of the neon set for those center stage enterances.

CBS studios in Burbank?! I dont think so. Burbank was on the other side of the Hollywood hills back then.
