I think you nailed it exactly right as far as pricing and availability. I can get the Henry McKenna here a few places at or close to retail. I, like an idiot, had a chance at the Jack Daniels 10 at retail and said nah I'll take just the 12 year at retail. Stupid, stupid, but I learned. I haven't even seen the other 3 anywhere for even secondary prices. So for the price and availability, the Henry McKenna is fine. Even Eagle rare being less proof and price retail is great if you can get it, but again, availability. So I settle for my Henry McKenna and just keep looking for the others to be available at a reasonable price for now.
Good video sir. I have yet to see any of these on the shelf. I am a little surprised that you took the Old Fitzgerald over the OF 1924 based on your description when you tasted it.
Sure you can. It won the San Francisco Spirits Festival in 2019 as the world’s best bourbon/whiskey. It went from 30 to in some places 100 and it’s now allocated on most markets. The video was to show whether or not the hype is real. It’s not.
@FrankPopo I agree with you on the JTS Brown BiB at $17 all day long. However, I have to go to Kentucky to get it which is about a 3.5 hr drive for me. I can get HM for about $65 all day long. The others in the blind I can’t find anywhere for anything resembling a decent price.
David, as you were counting down your rankings, with each bottle I was rooting for your beloved Michter's 10 to come out on top after seeing some of your blinds in the past where its lower ranking low-key broke your heart. It's back on top!
Nice review! I picked up my first McKenna about a year ago(65.00) and it was a hot not very good bottle. Half way gone it was better but not good. Took a chance on another bottle about three months ago at Costco for (51.00) and it has been very nice! I think it’s better than my JD 10, 1924, and I don’t have the Old Fitzgerald. However my Michters 10 just simply kicks A$$! Cheers!
@mistermom310 if you haven’t had Michters you are missing out in my opinion. I love Michters, haven’t had the 10yr yet can’t find it or it’s $500 and I’m not paying it!! Cheers brother 🥃🥃
You have to remember that McKenna 10 is a single barrel product. Overall I really like McKenna 10 but I’ve had a couple that were just “meh” and I’ve had several others that were very tasty. I remember buying it at Total Wine a few years ago for 24 buckaroos…
Michters 10 is sourced They should be releasing their own juice in about a year or 2. McKenna is worth $40 tops and even at that price I'll still choose younger and better whiskey
I don’t understand the hype around McKenna 10 year. Got my first one earlier this year. It’s ok, but nothing to write home about. Probably won’t buy again if I’m being honest.
McKenna is quite possibly the worst pour I've ever had. Tried 2 bottles and they are both terrible. I'd drink Willet Pot Still before I drink McKenna 10 again. A $17 bottle of Evan Williams BIB is leaps and bounds better.
