As someone who usually focuses strictly on vocals, this song has opened my ears to the beautiful possibilities of the guitar (in the right hands). That fucking solo is the most beautiful thing I've heard in any song!
The willow it weeps today A breeze from the distance is calling your name Unfurl your black wings and wait Across the horizon it's coming to sweep you away It's coming to sweep you away Let the wind carry you home Blackbird fly away May you never be broken again The fragile cannot endure The wrecked and the jaded a place so impure The static of this cruel world Cause some birds to fly long before they've seen their day Long before they've seen their day Let the wind carry you home Blackbird fly away May you never be broken again Beyond the suffering you've known I hope you find your way May you never be broken again Ascend may you find no resistance Know that you made such a difference All you leave behind will live to the end The cycle of suffering goes on But memories of you stay strong Someday I too will fly and find you again Let the wind carry you home Blackbird fly away May you never be broken again Beyond the suffering you've known I hope you find your way May you never be broken again May you never be broken again
Myles wrote this song for his friend who gifted him his first guitar and later on tragically died, some day i too will fly and find you again mean some day i will die as well and will get back to my friend, YES HE WILL !!
Wow!!! I first listened to alter bridge only a month ago, I wish I knew them sooner!!! I know every vocalist has its own style, but Myles Kennedy exceeds great legends like Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Axl Rose, Geoff Tate, Roy Khan and many more!!!!
Would love to have been at this concert in Amsterdam! It's impressive how Myles always gets deep into his songs. This guys makes you believe and feel the songs. Great job Myles and the rest of the guys from Alter Bridge!
+ana stasia its a fucking awesome version, but I miss the backing vocals, nuances and some details of the studio version, but of course they can't do every little detail of the studio version on live shows
Yep, I was there. It's Amsterdam December, 2008. I was there all myself and I cried when the song was finished. The people who around were so sweet and comforting because they understood........ I didn't know the show would be recorded. I'm still happy it was. Of course I have the dvd. The whole concert was amazing. It was the second time I saw AB live. I'm a woman and some sweet guys made sure I was safe on the train to travel back home. AB fans are the best!
He is amazing, but what do you mean "when he tries"? An artist as dedicated as Myles always tries, but you have to consider that he is in his mid-40s now trying to sing many songs that use his upper register that he probably has more difficulty hitting now than he did in 2008. And then add onto that all the touring he does with Slash, and the guy hardly ever gets a break, so his voice is usually very fatigued. I've seen him live eight times and his voice has sounded anywhere from very good (at the least) to beyond incredible. He always tries, it's just that he has off nights occasionally.
No totally man I agree, he always tries, I've seen him live several times and he always gives it his all, alls I meant was some nights you can feel more emotion than others, this show was huge for them and you can really hear it shine through his voice. No disrespect was intended, he's the best vocalist in rock right now, his voice is always amazing, just some performances are better than others, like every musician, whether you're a vocalist, bassist, drummer, whatever, we all have better days and performances, and this was one of his very many better ones, thats alls I meant.
***** Yeah man I get you. My bad for the misunderstanding; Myles is my favourite artist by far so I probably get a little too overprotective sometimes! But it's good to hear from other fans out there :)
Scott Stapp always looked like he was trying too fucking hard. He seemed like the kind of person that would have alternated between working himself into an insane frenzy and or an early death while destroying his family (too much religious guilt). Myles Kennedy was the opposite, a consummate pro, more laid back guy without the religious guilt or anti-authority anger from a strict upbringing, who genuinely enjoyed his music and loved performing while being able to relax and enjoy life.
I am certain that you will one day fly away and meet up with your dear friend Myles!! Thank-you for creating this beautiful masterpiece that we can all enjoy and dedicate to our lost loved ones!!
This is my favourite song, just beautiful, and this is the best version of it, watching Tremonti during his solo, Myles' vocals, just gives me chills every time
Myle's solo is sooo full of emotion that its ridiculous. I love Mark and his solos especially how technical this one is, but Myle's has this unmatched ability to put so much emotion into his playing. I love you AB
Seven years later and this song and this performance brings chills. You can feel the raw emotion in this and when they performed "In Loving Memory" at the same concert. Clearly an amazing band, cohesion and musicianship! Well done Alter Bridge and keep it coming year after year!
Myles Kennedy plays his solos as if he's ascending into the heavens with all the winds blowing through his face... Mark Tremonti plays his solos as if he's descending into the pits of hell with all the fires burning him down, it's like, if he doesn't stop playing, he'll get burned... Both these guys rock solid \m/ Myles Kennedy \m/ Mark Tremonti \m/
RIP, Robin Williams...You will be so Missed your humor was Great for us, However, I guess hard for you................R I P from so many many children and people you helped
This song is amazing. I loved it before and i now i can't live without it. A friend passed away yesterday. Only 25, a brain stroke. Never had any problems, was not a big drinker, never smoked. It just happened, in his bed. I never was decisive on a tattoo, ill have a tattoo of a bird his name and selected lyrics of this song to commemorate him. I love you brother, let the wind carry you home, black bird fly away may you never be broken again.

A szívemet tépem szép, ahányszor meghallgatom ezt a csodálatos dalt. A rock történetének egyik legszebb dala. Myles egy Isten, hatalmas hang. The tear apart my heart every time I listen this song. One of the most beautiful song in the history of rock. Myles is a God, powerful voice , I love it.
Amazing musicians, but I can see why a lot of people don't get interested in this band. Loved seeing Myles with Slash though, that was definitely a treat.
It's all about taste bro, I personally prefer this guitar solo over the ones from Slash for example. Just the fact that i like this solo more than Slash's solos doesn't mean I have "no fucking idea of music".
Greatest guitar solos of all time, by vote: Led Zeppelin - 'Stairway To Heaven' (1971) Guns N' Roses - 'November Rain' (1991) UFO - 'Rock Bottom' (1974) Alter Bridge - 'Blackbird' (2007)
The fragile can not endure They're wrecked and jaded A place so impure The static of this cruel world Cause some birds to fly Long before they've seen their day
I always had a sense that there was a kinship between Myles's Blackbird and McCartney's Blackbird (other than the song title) and here's Myles playing a bit of the McCartney song before starting his own Blackbird. I've never been able to put my finger on just what the relationship might be. Clearly, it requires more thought. Be glad to hear different takes on the idea.
