JK SIMMONS has such a recognizable voice, that when i heard Tenzin's voice for the first time i knew i recognized that voice somewhere and was surprised to see him voicing the role. I can't imagine Tenzin with another voice. Perfect casting
@@djoscartjApril is the character she played in the show parks and recreation. Eska is dark and gloomy like the character April and that’s why they said April at the end I think
Besides Rami Malek and J.K. Simmons there's another Oscar winner - Eva Marie Saint, who played the older Katara in _The Legend of Korra_ . Fun fact: Eva Marie Saint is currently both the oldest living and earliest surviving Academy Award winner today at 98 years old. She won the Best Supporting Actress award for the 1954 Elia Kazan film _On the Waterfront_ starring alongside Marlon Brando.
Zelda Williams is a really awesome actress and knew how to make people think she was a monster. And as a nod to her iconic role, she rocks emerald tones on the red carpet.
@@DMFTexTex Nepotism is okay in my book if the person on the receiving end has the talent to back it up. It's a fact that names and relationships matter more in showbiz than skill, but Zelda Williams awesome actress and I'll take her over some pop star voicing characters for the name recognition any day.
I liked his character Jin-Soo Kwon on Lost(2004) I don't speak Korean but Jin-Soo Kwon and Sun-Hwa Kwon had emotional moments that made me cry many times.
Fun fact about the boulder: apparently they tried to get The Rock himself to voice him (it’s obvious who the boulder was based off of) and he wanted to do it, but he was too busy so he asked his buddy mick foley to do it.
I would have loved it either way, but with Mick Foley being a master of multiple distinct wrestling personalities, I feel like it was a perfect fit. I see The Boulder as just another one of those personas, honestly XD
0:33 Aubrey Plaza (Eska) 1:21 Rami Malek (Tahno) 2:24 JK Simmons (Tenzin) 3:02 Steven Yeun (Avatar Wan) 4:07 Mark Hamill (Ozai) 5:03 Jason Isaacs (Zhao) 5:42 Serena Willaims (Ming) 5:47 Serena Williams (Sage) 6:20 George Takei (Ship Warden) 7:05 Mick Foley (The Boulder) 7:57 Tinashe (On Ji) 9:00 Daniel Dae Kim (Fong, Hiroshi, Ozai in the Netflix live action)
8:13 - 9:20 Speaking about General Fong and Hiroshi Sato, I'm even got news that Daniel Dae Kim will be playing Fire Lord Ozai in the Netflix live action series Avatar: The Last Airbender in this summer!
Tenzin's voice was a catch for me right away JK Simmons has a recognizable voice like Hammill. Now Serena William, Foley and Rami Malek were a surprise for me.
Funny, I didn't recognize Mark Hamill, but I had just watched Mr. Robot for the second time before watching LOK and so Rami Malek was instantly recognizable for me. His character in LOK speaks exactly like Elliott from Mr. Robot
I think it's amazing that J.K. Simmons went from voicing Tenzin a loving and caring father and hero to voicing Omni-Man a character who couldn't be further from Tenzin if you tried.
Eh, I'd say Fletcher is further from Tenzin than Omni-man is and I didn't even have to include a different actor. All 3 are teachers to the protagonist of the story they're in but, at their core, Fletcher is the most ruthless, the most willing to use psychological harm as part of his teachings. Omni-man would punish Mark in the most gruesome of ways (I know your comment is 11 months old so I'm assuming only season 1 knowledge), but he did it out of frustration. It wasn't how he wanted it to go. For Fletcher, it's all cold and calibrated. It's all deliberate. A worthy price for greatness.
Does Clancy Brown fit in? Incredible that while he voiced Long Feng and Yakone here, he also famously played Mr. Krabs, Lex Luthor, the 4 Brainiacs merge in "Legion of Superheroes", Mr. Sinister, Prison Captain Hadley, etc. Speaking of the Avatarverse and DC's connections, who would be excellent for Mako as a brooding Bats-related detective (excluding the true Batman Kevin Conroy and Adam West who are above us all)?: Bruce Greenwood Jenson Ackles Jason O'Mara Troy Baker Diedrich Bader William Baldwin
What I'm most surprised about is that Serena Williams was in the Avatar that's crazy. But also I had no idea so many famous actors were in Avatar & Korra
Other famous celebrities in ATLA and LOK include Robert Patrick (T-1000 in Terminator 2) voicing Piandao, and Kiernan Shipka (Sally Draper on Mad Men) voicing Jinora.
If there is ever a prequel series about the 6 named Avatars before Korra & Aang (Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, Yangchen, Szeto, & Salai), I would like George Takei to return to voice either Szeto or Salai.
Wait wait wait. You’re telling me that the Daniel Dae Kim, the perfect casting for Fire Lord Ozai in the live-action show, already was in the Avatar universe, TWICE! Now that’s surprising
it would have been great for the Boulder to say "Have a nice day" after his fight. But I don't think the younger audiences would catch that But Mark Hamill's voice is ICONIC. Period.
Stephen Yeun went to my college (years after I did) and was part of the improv group I helped found. Cricket Leigh, who plays Mai, played a lost boy alongside me in a production of Peter Pan.
Honestly. Getting Mick was smart knowing how close he was to Rock at the time. I think he voiced Foley around 2005ish so a year prior wrestling evolution at Wrestlemania with Rock
I had no idea Rami Malek was Tahno! I only recognized him as Ahkmenrah from the night at the Museum film trilogy!! Thank you so much for including his photo. Those two roles were way better than what little I saw of the character in Mr. Robot.
I love JK Simmons, and it's really cool that he voices Tenzin! I was really surprised when I found that out for the first time! The actor of Luke Skywalker voiced Ozai! WHAT?! I didn't know that! Daniel Dae Kim is great! And it's so cool that he's also getting one of the main roles in the live action Avatar Netflix series! He's playing ozai! And he's literally perfect for the live-action ozai! 😆😆😆😆 THIS WAS REALLY INTERESTING!
The only one that actually caught me off guard was the R&B singer “Tinashe” lol like very random but cool. Everyone else I already knew from the first avatar books 📚
As soon as I heard osai talk, I knew it was mark hamill. I hadn't known mark hamill for star wars or arkham joker yet, so I never noticed. I actually shocked, he played a character completely opposite to luke.
I know almost all of these actors, knew half when I first watched it, was more familiar with them today, but I still never recognized them when I rewatched the franchise two years ago. Solid voice acting and casting.
Ron Perlman as Sozin Robert Patrick as Piandao Steve Blum as Amon Zelda Williams as Kuvira Tress MacNeille as Hama James Hong as Monk Tashi and Mayor Tong René Auberjonois as the Mechanist and the Gan Jin leader Lance Henriksen as Amon's Lieutenant
I recognized jk Simmons and George takei's voice fairly quickly in this. Mark Hamill's voice I recognized just before they revealed him as I heard the joker voice at the last second
Are you sure you wanted to go with "indistinguishable" for JK Simmons & not unmistakable? To the list I'd add Henry Rollins as Zaheer Eva Marie Saint as older Katarra in Legend of Korra Ann Heche as Suyin Beifong Mako as Iroh James Hong as Mayor Tong, in the episode Avatar Day where they put Aang on trial for Kyoshi killing Chin the Conqeror. And also as one of the monks in The Storm. Robert Patrick as Piandao
Interestingly enough, Aubrey was asked about her experience voicing Eska one time and she didn't even know who that was. She had no memory of even doing it and didn't really seem to care for the franchise. "Eska? I don't know who that is.... Oh yeah... I did do a character for that show. I don't remember much of it."
