If there was only one lesson to be learned from you in this hike .. it would be the power of positive thinking you emit through out your journies. Such a noble accomplishment my friend so let uus hope it rubs off on others. Truly an extremely scenic area you have taken us through. Amazed at the quantity and quality of driftwood among the rocks on day four so much could be made out of that. Great hike mate enjoying the adventure with you thanks. Bushyboy Oz.
Thanks so much Ewen. I try to remain positive, it's pretty easy when I'm out tramping as it's what I love but even still there are not great days. I just try to treat it as part of the experience. It's a beauty place and yeah the driftwood would be super handy. Cheers mate.
Your editing is getting good, got me hooked from the intro lol, nice music in the vid too. Thanks for showing us a part of the country I probably never get too.
Loved seeing the small details, the big views, beautiful and rugged scenery and birds, the music and the sun going down - gosh all of it especially how much you were enjoying it😃I have my fingers crossed that you did see a Kiwi, I feel so lucky that we saw two Kiwi during the day just as we got to Ulva Island.
Fabulous! I visited Stewart Island back in 2008 but went kayaking so didn't have time to hike. I always wondered what it was like in the back country and now thanks to your videos I know! Thanks for sharing
Thank you! Kayaking Stewart Island would be amazing, definitely something I want to do at some point. I'm glad you enjoyed it, Stewart island is rugged and beautiful, such a cool place. Cheers!
Epic scenery! Loved every minute of this part of your adventure. Bleeping sandflies is all I can say about them 🤣 Looking forward to the next instalment.
Great adventure again. Hearing the kiwi is so magical. Cheese and salami was a good choice for your lunches, a high fat content to sustain you, I read about a guy who trekked across Antarctica and his diet was 100% fat. He exerted so much energy man hauling that he ate into his own body tissue. Without the fat he might not of made it. Those sand flies love you though, I know they're nature but they're so bloody annoying. Laughed at the ritz sign on the hut there. Cheers
Loved, loved, loved this video. Stunning scenery. Are any of the huts you visit, heated ? Am also enjoying the efficiency of your gear. Have you put a gear list up in another video ? Thanks BCK.
Thank you so much Jane! I'm pretty all if not most of the huts have woodstoves. Cheers, I've gotten this kit pretty dialed in and I'm happy with it for long distance tramping. It's the same as my TA kit, I don't have a video on it yet but I will probably make one at some point. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing your adventure - we are enjoying it. We notice that you are wearing a garmin mini. are you able to do a review on it please - thank you.
Hey Kim! I'm so glad you are enjoying it, thanks for watching! I don't don't reviews sorry, I might touch on it in a video at some point. If you have any questions about it, I would be happy to answer them. It's a great device. Cheers
Jeepers H. Crikey BK, that is one un-Godly gorgeous country you're enjoying life in! Sorry about the sand flies. Is there any time during the year that Stewart Is. is not infested with them? That aside, it looks like you have your gear thing down to a science. No more experimenting for you. Enjoying this series, as I have all your others. Looking forward to next post! Cheers.
Thanks heaps Rick, it's an amazing place. I'm so glad I decided to go over. Haha the sand flies are all part of it, I'm not top sure, I would hope they die down in winter like in other parts of the country but I can't say for certain. Very happy with how all my gear worked out. Cheers!
I wonder how Hell Fire Hut got it's name? Hearing kiwi in the wild is so special, it is in small way a shame that fact. Awesome video as always, looking on the topo the amount of up and down would be lot on the knees and thighs.
Yup I have wondered that aswell mate, I've got no idea but it sounds cool. I know what you mean, I'm just grateful to experience it. Yeah my knee was playing up a bit, still has a bit of a twinge now especially in the cold. Cheers mate
Aweswome :-) one of my biggest dream on my bucket list, but so far away from Switzerland. I visited the island in 2009/10 and did just the first day walk to the port william hut. I also did some walks on the southern island and was so thrilled about the nature. When did you made the trip? They told us you should do it between november and march. But i can imagine, that meanwhile its not a secret trip anymore and the huts are full? Do you now about it? Regards from Switzerland Pierre
Hey Pierre. Stewart island is an amazing place. I hope you get the chance to get back here. I did the trip during April this year. I have no idea about the huts being full sorry. Since the borders are now I open I would imagine that it is a bit busier. Cheers!
@@BackcountryKiwi Thanks for your reply: I checked with the park service. They told me that December - February is busy, November, March and April is not so busy. November is rather beginning of summer, March, April already almost autumn. But in this area, the vegetation probably does not play a big role. And the flights are cheaper in March or April ;-)
Great video, mate. If you dont mind me asking, was there any point in your channel where it really started to grow faster, or has it just been pretty constant over time? Cheers.
Never even been to the South Island before but am going to Stewart Island later this year. I'd read that the trail only takes three days though, did you do extra?
Hey Rami. The track you are looking at is the Rakiura which is the great walk track on Stewart island. The north west and southern Circuits go deeper and further around Stewart island and are more rugged and challenging. Cheers
Your right knee looked veryyyy swollen when you were in shorts and packing up.. maybe buy yourself a knee wrap with the Velcro just for a little support whilst hiking along your awesome travels please 🤗🏕️🤙🙌🌟
Was that right at the end? I never noticed, but it's my left knee that bugs me, weird. Thanks for the advice cat I shall definitely look into it! Muchly appreciated 🙂
@@BackcountryKiwi yes it was , but it does makes sense that it's your ankle that which hurts because it's hurting than your knees will get affected possibly your hip too.. Rest up 😊
Love your adventures. Hopefully one of these days you will be able to follow your nose over to my channel and see what type of trouble I have got into. All the best and continue to follow your nose!🍁🦫 #stealthcampingalliance
