The rapid fall of the Afghan capital, Kabul, to Taliban fighters last week has shocked the world, most especially the United States, which saw 20 years' worth of blood and treasure collapse in a matter of days. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports on how Islamic militants surged past Afghan security forces and routed the sitting government.

My wife was a reporter in Afghanistan in 2013. In an article she wrote, she quoted an airman saying that within two years it would all go back to being owned by the Taliban. She also reported that corruption was widespread and stuff was stolen all the time. While she was there, jet fuel was stolen from American jets. Starting in 2017, the Afghan military started giving up. And here we are. It was always going to be this way.

Yeah it's pretty obvious to anyone with a cursury knowledge of the conflict that the ANA and government were incompetent/corrupt. There is no excuse for the experts and analyst who said that Afghanistan wouldn't collapse. Another example of clueless politicians passing policies with no real understanding of the realities on the ground🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

FALSE It was stable and functioning. This is a *first generation* gvt and military. It took Germany 40 years to become fully independent of the US, after WWII. The Afghans were still dependent upon the US, *by design* . Its not a failing to any special conditions of Afghanistan. Its simply a control mechanism that we use in building foreign militaries. All of their sophisticated capabilities and communications, were ours and we just packed it up and left. We essentially stripped them down to their rifles and pocket lint. President Leeroyyy JENNNKINNNS! just stumbled through the door and accidentally unplugged Afghanistan. The real lesson to be learned, is about propping up and installing a US Presidential candidate who thinks hes running for Senate.

Why our “leaders” decided to evacuate our airbase and send our soldiers 35 miles away to Kabul airport with 1 runway and unsecure. The Afghan army found Bagram empty, the electricity turned off. This is so strange because anyone would know that is asking for disaster.

What was not included in this report was when the airforce base was given to the Taliban. Once the Taliban knew the US would not intervene, they acted. The fighters, knowing there was no air support, they could not succeed. I think this report is very misleading by not presenting all the facts.

Afghanistan is a country with many different ethnic and tribal groups. The Taliban all come from rural kinship groups outside the major cities. Some of the Afghan soldiers we trained probably have kinship and tribal links to Taliban forces. They didn't want to fight their cousins.

Cute. In reality what you saw is the result of electing a President who thought he was running for Senate. Democrats rejoiced at the installation of an avatar, but tragically overestimated their control. I thought it would be hilarious for Democrats to put so much work and investment into installing a puppet, only to have him just do WTF ever he wants because while he's a senile old coot, *he* is the one with the actual authority. I was wrong. Its not funny.

Afghan ppl know foreign powers come and go and while they are there they make money of them but they also know their internal deep state will always be there working with their tribal clergy and elders and for them those are the real rulers of that land. Just because somebody placed a president and cloth them with camo don’t make the Afghans feel like they belong to a nation state because it is not as long as tribal system is strong. Most of the soldiers didn’t want to fight for a puppet president especially when they knew they were not going to be paid and their tribal leaders told them not to fight because they already been told by the deep state not to resist to Taliban because at the end of the day they were the ones that fought off the invading foreigners. So deal was cut months ago and now there is a class of ppl that worker closely with Americans for years and they are the ones you see around the airport trying to get out of dodge! In the meantime American corporations are counting their profits they made in the last 20 years now that the show is over!!
