I cannot understand how Diane Abbot has got as far as she has in politics. For twenty odd years she has been lacking nuance and verging on hysteria. Her justification for drone attacks because they are an act of war was puerile.
I'll tell you why Abbott has lasted so long in politics you could put a donkey up in some labour seats and they would get elected.lot of donkeys about.
Whatever are saying about the Bonnie 'half', of the Bonnie and Clyde, of late night political discourse. And remember, this is the genius said that Mao did, on balance, more good than harm.
@Will Richards And her cheap as fuck wig, gets frisbeed toward the diving boards exposing her natural sponge which quickly absorbed the entire contents of the splash pool.
They are talking about how horrible it must have been for Khaleed to went through over hundred waterbordings. Not even a thousand of those make up for what that terrorist did to Daniel Pearl and not even mentioning the 9/11 victims.
She's not actually wrong on the issue here but Diane Abbott's reaction to this whole issue shows she's completely incapable of dealing with these issues. There are some situations where there is no easy answer and getting emotional about the one that was taken is just advertising your ignorance about how bad the alternative might've been.
Also, it's important to note that Abbott's beliefs on the issue would do a complete 180 if it was her faction doing them; I guarantee you she'd find a way to insert a moral grey area then, as Murray did in this video.
Is this the same Diane Abbott who publicly said that she thought chairman Mao was a force for good? I bet the families of the 60 million plus people murdered under maos regime would disagree.
Im not sure what I enjoyed more, Douglas's excellent points at the topic at hand or Diane's exasperated looks every time Douglas mad one of those points! lol
Typical interviews these days they think they are the main show and Diane Abbott is hopeless !!! Douglas Murray is magnificent and as ever very well informed, patient and articulate. If only his like were in power.
When the IRA were slaughtering people in Northern Ireland and elsewhere Dearest Diane welcomed any "setback" for the British state. Dearest Diana is not so "Dear".
Abbott is like a hysterical house bound wife. She needs to simmer down, I thought politicians were meant to possess rational qualities which are to be used effectively for debating purposes and more importantly to make decisive decisions through a utilitarian approach
She's got more time to devote to filing her astronomical expenses claims, and making sure her lunatic son's activities are kept away from the general public. Such an evil woman.
She is fantastic! Love her so much. She puts a loud hailer voice that speaks to the silliness that is now inherently cored into western society. Sadly that silliness she exudes is quite serious for western society. But she is still great bang for buck as an entertainment piece.
Is this the wonderful Diane Abbott who publicly stated that chairman Mao was a force for good? At least 60 million people were murdered under that despot, far worse than the nazi's ever were .
Behind the scenes things go on. You can't use velvet padded gloves with hardened criminals. Should we really mind if terrorists endured some discomfort for our cause? We're not talking about Tudor times Tower of London methods here.
This entire debate felt vastly pointless. Michael was the only one not saying the exact same stuff over and over again. Douglas made, I think a fair point, Diane for some reason or other decided to say that Douglas was not condemning torture of which extreme uses he was. This felt completely boring and painful to listen to.
No she must be allowed to continue! Her foolishness highlights much that is wrong with today's society and by virtue ... She does more for the cause of sensibility than she or the rest of the fools would like.
Diane Abbott? All the eye rolling and huffing and puffing, she's got that down to a fine art. Terrorists were tortured? Boo hoo Diane. They do far worse.
This conversation really is exasperating and is symptomatic of how political debate and dialogue in this country has degraded in it's sophistication. Douglas makes a detailed discussion about degrees of torture, which is correct, but Diane Abbot skips over the detail entirely and wastes the next few minutes of the discussion on an emotional and factually incorrect shouty diatribe in which she appeared to have missed all the nuances of what Douglas was saying. So then Douglas in effect has to repeat himself, largely for her benefit, rather than focussing on the important details of the discussion. Why can't she just listen and think about what's being said before going into emotional knee jerk mode. She's utterly useless, and to think she's now a member of the shadow cabinet. God help us (and I'm an atheist). Tiresome to say the least.
They should of used a looped tape of diane abbot, they would've cracked in less than five minutes. She reminds me of the snake from Disney's "Jungle Book".
Tbh I think using torture is wrong regardless and the British intelligence should never use it. I get that in the heat of an interview or interrogation there will be individual circumstances applied/considered.

Is the answer to terror to use techniques we might consider not very nice? If the techniques work and get answers, and solve problems, then YES they should be used. Terrorists have Human Rights? WHY?

Has that Abbott creature ever condemned terrorist actions and beliefs? I've never seen evidence of it.
Diane Abbott is almost consistently wrong in every point these days but I think other commenters are being unfair. She does at least try to debate the points and she isn't stupid.
People like Abbott like to take the coral high ground as her I'll do not have an incoming of what sacrifices sometimes have to be made for freedom and survival, nobody wants it to happen but humans in the real world have to make incredibly difficult decisions sometimes.
jesus... Douglas Murray, my hero is defending water boarding? I love everything this guy says and the way he does it but he can't possible defend water boarding and be taken seriously.
Scenario : if a man stole a car on a scorching hot day which had a baby in it and later the man was captured but the car with child in it was missing would you permit torture on a low degree to force the man to reveal to location of the car with the baby in it?
i know what you're saying but where do you draw the line? Dude the police in any western democracy aren't supposed to torture a dude for something like that, why would you say that?
I usually think DM has some good arguments but in this segment I was left unimpressed. I hate to agree with Diane Abbott, but he *was* trying to minimize prisoner torture. Thus, the repeated citing of "slapping" in the film, and the silence on "rectal feeding" - which *Diane* mentioned. I'm actually American...and when this torture report came out I was never less proud of it. The ticking bomb argument is a false argument...and the rest is just sadism.
***** no thats not what i'm saying - what i'm saying is that a small group of people ie. a ruling family pay us for our weapons so that they can suppress their population - not extremists just normal people. As a receipt we give them our tacit support and our royal family to fawn over them.
unfortunately the states DID commit the worst things in the world - they invaded Iraq based on a lie and murdered a million civilians i'd challenge you to find anyone who did anything worse over the time period - and what point exactly was he trying to make about northern ireland? That the British people tortured their own citizens so that makes everything ok? What a disturbed mind
MrHappyBollox Agreed. I would never pick shocks to the balls over sleep deprivation and prolonged drinks but lets be real haha; its always going to be torture and it will undoubtedly be traumatising to the vast majority. Extremely motivated individuals with a lot to lose don't just crack under minimally traumatising abuse.
MrHappyBollox Technology will advance here undoubtedly making techniques more effective and quicker but regardless, its always torture. I think its also important to note that some would argue torture stands on the toes of dignity and respect that arguably murder doesnt. This doesnt sway my views in any significant way but is personally food for thought.
Hahahahaha!!! That sums up your level of intelligence.... Abbot deserves all criticisms and insults as she is not only an imbecile, but highly ineffective and dangerous as a politician - the fact she is black will not save her from the repercussions of those failings.... and you erroneously insinuating any dislike of her is solely down to her skin colour is pathetic, petty, extremely disingenuous and displays beyond any doubt that you are trying to start a race row.
