Hold on, I though all characters had the ability to break combos by rapidly tapping L1 (or R1, I can't remember) - it pushes the opponent back back takes away a chunk of your health

​@donkaibs5515 that's not exactly true toriyama did not care for anything dragon ball related after cell saga it was clear he was burnt out db evolution made him so mad tho he made battle of gods sure toriyama is involved in character designs for side games like jump force but creatively he's not involved as much as you think kakarot was the first game toriyama was clearly hands on with and that was literally the only game majority of the time toriyama don't care whenever u see toribot when he was alive and it was a message toriyama was involved if it wasn't then he was not involved

Changing the base speed is such a great change to me. Because the base movement speed in the old Tenkaichi games was actually so slow you would basically always be pressing X whenever you move so it made perfect sense to make that the default speed. And I bet we will still be able to move slowly by just pushing the stick halfway like how you make yourself in walk in most games.

Right? Basically nobody in DBZ moves that slow in combat. The only times I can think of when the characters slowly float forward without outright walking was just for dramatic tension buildup. If I had to give you one actual specific example, Piccolo did it right before trying to fight Goku in World's Strongest (DBZ Movie 2). If I had to stretch for more examples, Garlic Jr.'s henchmen run on air very slowly before jumping Piccolo at the very start of Dead Zone (DBZ Movie 1).

@@Von_D Exactly and that's the only reason I ever moved without dashing in the games too. I bet you'll probably still have the old movement speed when you're in close range though when pressing X becomes a sidestep for balance but still looks to be a bit faster than old games.

There was a button input to break out of combos in Budokai Tenkaichi 3 too, but if you used it, it drained your health by about a bar. I forget the exact button input, but it was there indeed

That reminds me of the tenkaichi tag. They had the same counter system, but you had to press all buttons on the psp.

Had to look for a comment like this before commenting it myself: yes L1 twice and you traded HP (about 1/5 of one HP bar actually) and every character could break out of combos

11:41 broly's explosive wave attack has multiple of those blasts coming out of it, its a reference to that bit in the broly movie also seen in his Meteor Shower super attack in DBFZ. the sphere blast is gonna be the initial attack but those additional blasts he fires off will also be attacks that can catch the opponent

I loved how the screen shaked in Ultimate Tenkaichi when you were powering up. I'm so glad to see that in Sparking Zero. Makes you feel powerful.

@@Dizastermaster. Yeah the beam deflect was cool and came in super handy when you were low on life and trying to stay in the fight. The fact that it was free deflect for all ki based supers was an awesome input.

9:17 I'm not going to lie, I played BT2/3 for years and never learned how to do the Z-counter. I just got used to anticipating the counter, vanishing out of the way... and winning the conga line that often started up.

I mean to be fair goku’s va is prolly sick and tired of doing that after literal decades of it yk. They have the grunts recorded, it would save them money and time and give Sean more room to focus on the performance a little more

4:45 That combo string shown in Sparking Zero does exist in BT3, but only some characters like Bardock can perform it. Pick Bardock, and do the string: 3xSquare, 2xTriangle, Square. But there are some differences on S!Z's one, for example, the fact that it starts with Heavy Finish, while BT3 starts with Rolling Hammer, and also the extra hit S!Z's string does, since it's 4 while in BT3 it's 3.

Yeah, I was surprised seeing the explosive wave attack. The counterattack is something that's gonna be interesting, I wonder what other energy attacks we'll be able to counter? I'm hoping that gameplay, just as well as presentation, goes hand in hand.

you can actually completely Break Free of a combo by sacrificing HP by tapping L1 it's a very useful tactic also they did take a little bit more gameplay from Raging Blast I'm curious to see how this will play out big hopes and dreams for it

Quick question: is there limit to when you can do it? For example: I'm really low and my opponent is doing lots of damage so I press L1. Will I die or will my hp be at one? Or if my health is too low I just can't do it.

7:38 The way it looks I think it's more likely the comeback of the burst mode from Raging Blast, the purple aura on the ki bar, the ki bar depleting gradually over time, the sky going darker and the very long combos, all seem to fit

I know this is super minor, but I noticed a small mistake. Goku in base form at the beginning of this fight has the correct boots he wears during the Broly movie, being blue with red lines and yellow laces, which he started wearing during the android saga up until now. After he takes battle damage from the galick gun, the boots switch to what he wears from the beginning of Z until the end of the Frieza saga, being blue with yellow lines and red laces. After he transforms into super saiyan blue, his boots change back to what he wears from the android saga forward, being blue with red lines and yellow laces again. I used to draw DBZ a lot when I was younger, which is why I noticed this.

Always liked it better with red laces rather than beige ones. The Full Color Manga always keeps it blue with white lines and red laces throughout the whole run

5:52 my GOD, I just noticed the speed of the Kamehameha, they may look kinda skinnier (the beams I mean), not a fan of that but also not important, but holy cow, that beam is running a marathon. Maybe it's because of the already good speed the game might offer plus I believe the stages are gonna be way bigger than in the PS2 versions

00:28, back in bt3 majority characters has the option to double click (L1) to do a wave(cost some HP) if i remember correctly to counter locng combos 02:45, this was accessible to some of the top characters(gogeta,gogeta SS4, i think ultimate gohan had it as well), But conditional is that they had to have their KI at max(blue), does cost some ki by clicking (O) if i am not wrong

Great video! And I’m also awaiting the side step/ melee range movement too. I hope it’s fluid like BT3 but honestly after your video I’m confident they will stick to the roots.. also if you double tap L1 while getting hit.. you can break the combo in exchange for health in BT3.. if they removed that then I’ll be ok withthe easy 2BS counter.. but if that’s still in the game.. it’s going to be a nightmare against people who just want to run away and only do super moves.

Everyone focuses on the clashes being a timing-based button press more similar to the Budokai games, but there's also a Boost button which I think may be a callback to the less-known technique (one that I didn't know at least) of being able to invest extra ki into a beam clash.

To be honest, I did like the button mash/analog swivel aspect of ki battles. It made them feel much more like you're trying to push the other blast back. DBZ Kakarot, despite its flaws, I think did a great job with its beam struggle mechanic. Only change could have been making the opponents a bit tougher when it came to beam struggles. The timing system just isn't the same. Plus, it was much easier to watch the actual effects of the beam struggle when all you had to do was swivel. Now my eyes will be glued to the bottom of the screen.

@@itsallinthepast2944 I'd still argue that button mashing is superior to timing. You can piggyback off of kakarot to make it one button but add a mechanic to it that takes battle damage, fatigue, and power level into it. I don't see how noone has thought to program it that way to make it more robust. They way they've made it now, beam struggles are a glorified quick time event.

A couple details not mentioned: -Roshi slowly falls, which confirms that non flight characters will be a thing - The explosive wave broly does is similar to an attack in fighterz (and the movie), where he explodes with energy and projectiles also come out to follow up afterwards

10:05 I put a lot of work & time into that guide. I hope it helps everyone. Thank you for showing that. 🙏 4:12 There's actually something important to note about this & it isn't related to Tenkaichi 3's Tri Attack which you used as a comparison. The natural follow-up Goku did in the showcase to a full power smash was followed by a mechanic called the Vanishing Attack which is done by pressing your ki button (Triangle for PS2 scheme) after a full power smash, however Goku did 2 of them. In Tenkaichi 3, by default you had only one, but in Raging Blast every single character had 2 Vanishing Attacks & 2 Pursuit Attacks. There is also one more detail & you have to pause it at 6:53 & go frame by frame; when Vegeta is in Max Power mode, he teleports to a different spot & a small portion of his ki completely vanishes as he reappears. I have good reason to believe that is High Speed Movement from Tenkaichi 3. I sincerely hope it is.

1:00 correction, every character can press L1 + L1 to make an explosive wave exchanging hp to break the combo, and also exist the Counter-Z mechanic that can counter EVERY melee attack in the game (including grabs), also, heavy finishes, rolling hammer, up+triangle, down+triangle aren't considered "safe attacks", that mean that they are vanisheable (pressing circle in the exact moment leads you to your opponent's back), so technically explosive waves and barrier aren't the only way to break a combo. anyway, my thoughts are similar to yours, i think the game in terms of attacking will not disappoint but... the movement it's what im worried about, we don't know how good will be, i also think the original movement system from the tenkaichi's maybe can be improvable but, it was so good anyways that i think they need to be a little bit conservative and attach a little bit more to the original movement system, but hope that im wrong. the graphic style of the game it's good, but i personally prefer the original from the tenkaichi's, it seems more manga and Z anime accurate, but that's a personal preference, but i mention it because i think a lot of people will accord with me on that.

Another great video bro!!! I think they increased the movement speed based off the fact that the arenas will be larger in this game plus the large size characters like Great Ape Vegeta will be larger as well so it would have been unbalanced if the movement remained slow in a larger setting. 0:50 there was also this 1 thing everyone had where they could do kind of an explosive wave type of move, but that was so rarely (if at all) usefull because of the fact it takes 1 healthbar

2:46 That looked a lot like Super Moovement (or however it was officially translated in English) in Tenkaichi 3, some characters like for example Mecha Freezer in Max Power mode could do them when pressing circle ⭕️, not the same as you could do it anywhere, but nothing prevented you from using it like it was shown in the video besides it was a little more difficult as you needed the precision of pointing correctly to your opponent. But if you just wanted to caught off guard from the back L2+X+X was very effective and you could always do it as long as you had enough Ki

On the revenge counter thing, it was a feature in bt3. Double tap L1 and it takes some hp to get you out

There was also a double L1 button press shockwave move which would drain some health, to counter not just combos, but it can also counter dash attack moves as well; both straight on and free-flying types. I feel it could also somewhat block energy attacks too, but cannot remember for sure.

at 7:40 when vegeta finishes powering up and activates sparking mode there is a huge shockwave and a big cloud of smoke and then he comes flying out of it. such a cool cinematic detail

Actually there was a emergency blaster wave you could do by pressing L1 twice in quick succession that took about 3,000 health but got you out of combos. Everybody forgets the move cuz it's absolute trash and in some situations can lead to your opponent getting more damage for free.

11:37 I think that references when Broly turns into super saiyan and screams going upwards, when he does that it let's out a lot of ki blasts that Goku tries to deflect in the movie and they end up ripping his clothes off

if you actually look carefully during Broly's super explosive wave, you can see all those ki waves shooting out from him, that last one is probably just a lingering effect. Also seems like Roshi is being handled like in BT3 in terms of "flight"

I personally really like the gameplay that they showed us. The speed of the movement and the new defensive options will add a lot of complexity to the combat. My only complaints are the camera was a bit weird sometimes and the soundeffects for heavy attacks lacked the weight of the original game

About the first one when you said you cant break out of combo, you can when the opponent uses a heavy attack during the combo you can either vanish or z counter

You know… Globku brought up a great point in one of his recent streams. If you look at the UI on the upper left, you’ll see a “sigil” that almost looks like an arrow pointing upwards “⬆️”. Its like slightly underneath the character portrait. Anyways, Globku pointed out that when Goku and Vegeta transformed they each consumed 3 “points” from the sigil. If you look closely, you’ll see the number on the sigil decreasing after the transformation. Also, The number seems to stop increasing after 3, almost as if it maxes out. It seems that each “point” on the sigil represents a transformation. DBS Goku has 3 confirmed transformations and so does DBS Vegeta, so that theory seems to make sense. But what is mostly intriguing is the fact that they each earn an extra point after transforming (the number seems to max out at one also), which could mean that their potentially is an extra transformation for both characters🤔.

Im gonna love the revenge counter because in past games and even in Raging Blast it got pretty annoying when you would try to go on the offensive but the enemy kept catching you

You can also in BT3 break off from an ennemie's combo by pressing L1 multiple times (works also on Tenkaichi 2 and Tag Team)
