Thankfully the original source material (Archie Comic's Sabrina The Teenage Witch) featured Salem as one of the original characters. He was a tuxedo cat and didn't talk if I remember correctly, so the changes made for this fun TV show were spot on. Because of this show, I wanted to name my daughter Salem but my wife wouldn't let me.
Some versions of the puppet look spot-on. Others...not so much. Caroline Rhea (Hilda) once said the earlier versions of the puppet looked like "an alcoholic rabbit wearing a hairpiece". That got me laughing. And Nick Bakay was perfect as the voice of Salem. You can tell he enjoyed it a lot.
I agree. He's so cute. Plus, the new Sabrina is too satanic and demonic for my preference. This is better because it's more light hearted and humorous.
Had this same reaction when I heard about Riverdale. "A live action Archie? Sounds like a 90's movie, but I guess if they get the humor right, then I'll give it a shot." "Oh no. It's an edgy drama." BLOCKED "At least I still have the cartoons."
I used to watch this show only to see Salem, if the show didn’t have Salem in it, it would have been the hit series it was love love Salem.. Nick Bakay is so talented he obviously has so much fun doing Salem’s voice
Lol I love Salem! In fact, I have the whole series. And my family watched the whole Jim Henson's dinosaurs show since the pandemic hit and now we are already on season 6 of Sabrina. Next up, probably Buffy the vampire slayer or mom or the big bang theory.
Salem showing the bad effects of a party, Salem showing even the worst have their limits on which spells to use, Salem teaching people not to fall for scams, how to be careful of who you date and how to entertain oneself when boredom kicks in
The animatronic they used for Salem scared me as a kid now a good 25 years later all it does is make me shoot liquids through my nose. They should really have a disclaimer at the start of every episode “Warning do not drink fluids when watching this show.”
