@@JohnErikjohansson still I think simple is the best workflow, much better than the convoluted default Gnome. I'm sure MS has lots of UX research behind their UIs.
@@tranceyy absolutely. For example, I tried Windows Longhorn and it was really beautiful. I guess that Windows Vista could be even better if they've took the feeling of Longhorn.
Manjaro Gnome user here, Using it with WhiteSur theme. best decision i have ever made. i can not imagine working with other any OS, especially with Windows OS. i just love manjaro
I've been told to stay clear from gnome. The issue is my old machine. Just 4 gigs of ram. Do you think I should go with this? I was originally thinking of zorin lite
@@aperture0 it depends on your use, zorin is new in the market but manjaro has more software support. if your machine is old go with linux mint or ubuntu or go with Manjaro xfce.
I have been using MABOX for 2 weeks-- LOVE IT TOO.. it's manjoro with OPEN BOX instead of a DE-- and it's FAST.. extremely lightweight- and just works- and will do anything I need...and I've since learned ANYTHING with OPEN BOX on it (a windows manager).... can be SUPER good.. :)
Very well presented video, I love how I could just put it in full screen and it looked like every OS was installed in my laptop so I could pretty much tell how they'd look if they were installed for real. Elementary OS looks astonishing.
I left Windows for Garuda Dr46onized Gaming release 6 month ago, it is the first distro that inspired me to take the step over to Linux. Still I consider my self a noob and a GUI user but im slowly learning commands and how to use the terminal... Now im running my pc on four screens without any issues what so ever, customized about everything possible and it looks awesome!! After detoxing from Windows software I now use only opensource software, that took me some time, it was har letting go of the programs ive learned to master... Today I manage all my needs on my Garuda system, grahpic design, gaming, banking and all officelike tasks. I can very much recomend you to try Garuda!! I only found it after trying 25+ distros and at that time was scared of leaving Windows, you will probably find everything youre looking for in Garuda!
I use it too and I'm learning. It's more user friendly than some others I've tried. Troubleshooting in windows is easier, but it couldn't solve my problems half the time and I couldn't do anything. I switched to garuda gaming edition, though Troubleshooting looks hard, I can still do it with the help of the community.
Tried some of these and fell back to Pop OS. Overall it contains pretty much everything I was looking for (productivity, task management, writing) without hassle. Elementary looked fantastic, but preferred Pop either way!
@@lgsg4 Unfortunately, Zorin package management broke when I uninstalled a package. I am on Windows 10 and looking for ease of use - with the functions of Windows.
I'm Mint Mate guy. Old school, customizable, lightweight desktops are still the best. I tried Elementary an it's not good for customization and not so lightweight for what it actually is. Fancy stuff modern DEs offer is nice at first but then you realize that performance is the thing you really need.
Also, Mabox truly has the ability to be anything you desire with low consumption if you want to get under the hood and get very basic with openbox. Many people probably don't think it's attractive, but bunsen Labs is nice too
One extra detail - try to use an AMD Radeon based video card (or onboard chip)- instead of a nvidia. AMD has created (for the longest time) open source drivers which mesh perfectly with Linux. Nvidia has not until very recently. They are just about to release some but even then they still can have problems.
@@erisium6988 saying that a team size matters when it comes to drivers is the most backwards thing I've seen in a long time. Do any research in that area and you'll find out why making a team bigger doesn't boost your product's quality. It's like the basic knowledge in sociology AND in business. Also, yes, AMD has better drivers on linux than on windows because thy're open source. And one last thing: source?
Although at Beta, Cutefish is almost 100% usable as a daily driver. It just lacks keyboard bindings like super key for start menu (or for anything), and the file manager has no progress bar for file copying. Also for mulit-desktop guys, you have to be patient for that to come out. Everything else works well out of the box and is beautiful ESP if you don't like or want to rice anything.
Thank you, great video, it was very insightful. I love macOS, Ubuntu Budgie, Zorin OS and I would love to try Pop or Nitrux to make a final decision. I love Zorin Os and the sound notifications, but I kind of miss notifications showing up which is missing
Really nice video, well done! Make linux beauty mostly about what DE that you prefer to install, so in my opinion: every linux distribution can be the most beautiful Linux. But this video very well presented. good job
I saw your MX Linux root drive! I'm on MX Linux right now coming from Manjaro and luv it! Just finished customizing my zsh shell with auto-sytax- highlighting, auto-suggestions, etc. ^.^
I loved ZORIN-- I've been hopping around- using MABOX now- (manjaro with OPEN BOX instead of a DE)... ZORIN is great-- only one thing I missed with it- and I've since learned how to make that work the way I want- which would make it PERFECT for me too.!!
I'm looking to switch from Zorin to see if I can find something that works better for me and isn't such a PITA. Zorin is the first distro I've tried in many years and I'm basically a Linux noob. I love the look but I have a few issues and there are things I'd like to do that I just don't know how to and want to see if there is something better out of the box. Issues with Zorin include *Using analog audio outs the sound goes into a sleep state after a few moments of inactivity resulting in a loud hum from my amp. The only method I have found to stop it is a file edit that needs to be reapplied every time I restart the PC. *Restarting the PC doesn't always work and requires me to start the PC with the physical power button. *If I resume from sleep I must remember to first wake my display otherwise I lose video signal requiring me to reconnect my HDMI to restart it. *Apps in the app store that don't work. At least some of these are Ubuntu issues so may be an issue in any Ubuntu based distro. I also want a good weather app that lives in my system tray and has live view (like windows) and has weather for my city. Must be able to use NordVPN. As a bonus it would be great if I could easily create sandboxed webapps directly from a website in my browser.
@@theauthenticsteve I don't know about running through vpn... never did that.. no need with linux. I would suggest DEBIAN based - they are FAST, STABLE- and don't change every time you turn the machine on. I'm running the new LMDE-5 and LOVE it- you can customize it like crazy easily- and it's SIMPLE- if you're familiar with windows- you'd EASILY be able to handle LMDE-5. It's in beta right now and I have YET to find any glitches, and I've been LOOKING for them.. There is one called Peppermint that nice- debian based- VERY fast and light weight- and POWERFUL. or Solus Budgie for simple- and Solus KDE if you want more customization abilities. and you can't really go wrong with POP OS-- if you like tiling windows.. it works well for GAMERS so should be fine for your amps and music stuff.. :) Put them on a USB and give them a try (don't have to install them- just run them live to see how they handle for you.)
@@davidwayne9982 Cheers. About the need for VPN, there is a need in any OS. The purpose of the VPN has nothing to do with the privacy or security of the OS however additional security is provided by the VPN. The VPN has various functions ranging from getting around geoblocking to securing you privacy online. In Australia not only can multiple players see everything we do, our online activity is stored online by law for a minimum of two years and many Governments around the would either require similar by law or do it themselves. By using a VPN the only activity stored online is me connecting to the VPN, from that point they can't see the websites I visit. And although it probably doesn't matter if Government can see what I'm doing because I'm not doing anything wrong, the idea of all my data and activities being stored online ripe for the picking in a world of daily security breaches and the fact that I don't trust my own ISP... well a VPN allows me not to worry what could happen to my data because with a VPN there simply isn't any data.
Nitrux is kinda underrated OS. Systemd as init system kinda sucks because it's incredibly slow for something that is easy task. Any debian based distro without systemd is blessing.
I used deepin few years ago, but every time I tried to install any programs it was real hard, a lot of broken libs. This problem is fixed now? I'm a developer, and I'm using Kubuntu, but I'm thinking to try to use deepin again. Is it a good idea?
Elementary OS 6.1 has music player that does not support drag'n'drop, does not support playlist files, does not support cue sheets. It is a no-go to me.
According to the narrator, it is hard to customize the Linux desktop; well, all you have to do is to follow Linuxscoop’s easy to follow customizing videos, and after a lot of pausing and perhaps an hour of tinkering the desktop environment, you will end up with a beautiful customized DE to your liken.
I've been told to stay clear from gnome. The issue is my old machine. Just 4 gigs of ram. Do you think I should go with this? I was originally thinking of zorin lite
@@aperture0 4 GB of RAM is rather small for today's standard. I would recommend a light DE like LXDE or XFCE. I don't know what DE Zorin Lite uses, but do try it and see if it feels light in your machine.
@@aperture0 MX Fluxbox would be also a good alternative! I've installed it on an old laptop and it runs fine. Even while installing it offers you a choice of how big you want to create your root (/) and /home partition by a slide control. At any other distri you have to use gparted to do that!
Hi I Like to know if Deepin os is Free for download and has anyone known the web Link to download a ISO to make a Bootable usb. pls Thank you. I also have a problem with trying to boot load from my USB not Shor if it's how I create the bootable usb or I think it can be the settings on the Bios BIOS SETTINGS ❓. (I tried to download Ubuntu & make a Bootable usb but it comes back with error or just will not boot) if any body can PLEASE help me THANK YOU
Very happy with Zorin Core. Makes Mint look old and ugly. You can set it up to look basically like Win11. Getting the Start Button out of the corner is definitely a good idea.
Also happy with Zorin. Only thing: Always takes 1.5 Years to be based on the newest Ubuntu. Zorin 17 based on Ubuntu 22.04 will only arrive 2023 around September. Goinna switch to either Mint, Fedora or cutefish if they release the final version.
Did anyone fix the Sound Blaster Z PCIe Gaming Sound Card issues with Linux? Does the Sound Blaster Z now work with Linux? I contacted Creative last year and they said they had no plans to write Linux drivers. Maybe if more people contacted Creative and asked them, they would write Linux drivers.
Hi, great videos though, please in term of optimisation, which of these editions of Linux has best minimal system resources usage, I mean the minimal system resources consumption..
Very Good presentation. There are some a few Russian distributions customized for single user. I started using Star Os which has everything in one installation. Simple desktop and they have ignored the look and feel.
Linux Mint Cinnamon with some oldschool Mint wallpaper, for me is the best looking. Still like it, camt even remember when I installed it. Maybe 2010 and kept it upp.
Is Deepin OS good ? I mean do it has any problem. I am changing from windows to linux . So will it be good option?. My priorities are day to day life usage, programming, development and lot of browsing.
I would go for linux mint personally. Extremely stable. My mother in law uses it and has done for the last 2 years to run her business and she was a huge windows user.
I like most of the distros here in the video, however, I noticed that there was no mention of MXLinux 21 KDE. I find this to be also another great looking distribution.
I've tried most of these on my 2015 MacBook Air but unfortunately, they have all cut my battery life by approx. 50%. I wish this wasn't so as I am not a big fan of Mac OS.
Elementary looks clunky after Deepin. The dock alone looks so dated and ugly. That said, I preferred the earlier version of Deepin’s dock rather than the current full-width version.
Hats off to all forks of linux but i rather use something classic like fedora 38, it is stable, fast, beautifull, and runs on latest stable kernel and software..for me it looks better that all this forks..but it is a matter of preference..great job on video!
