The tail down when they're lying on the ground or sitting is just a natural position. It usually got nothing to do with whether they dislike you. When they do this while walking, then it maybe can signal multiple things on the plain of anxiety or alertness. Even then it's not per se caused by you as an owner, it could be a myriad of (external) factors. I think there must be a video made with signs that show that kitty *does* like you, i like thing to be pawsitive.

Hmm I don’t have cats but they did hide under the bed while I was at a friend’s house looking after their cats. 🐱
