Personal Anecdote: I decided to make sleep a priority a few years back. I'm lucky to have a job where I don't have a hard start time. So I would go back to bed if I didn't get proper sleep or was really tired still and I would just work later into the day. Over time I found myself more productive and finding less excuses to skip the gym. Plus I was overall happier.

Another great episode. After listening to this podcast for a few years now, I don't feel like the information in this episode was anything that they have never covered before yet these guys do such a good job at what they do it still draws me in every time. I like these shorter episodes that cover some of the information that might already have been talked about over multiple episodes before as kind of a quick refresher course and a reminder to focus on certain aspects of my own fitness (muscle building in this case) that I often start to slowly stray away from. Awesome job, once again.

Hey guys I’m a former boxer that had such a unhealthy relationship with my weight and my scale. I stopped boxing 5 years ago but your still step on the scale 2-3 times a day just to be frustrated that I am gaining weight and thought running 3 miles a day was how you lost weight. After listening to you guys I threw away my scale to lose that unhealthy relation with the scale and weight and started maps anabolic. I just finished the prephase and I start strength Wednesday and I already can see my body changing. And I don’t care what my weight is anymore I just want to see my body build muscle and strength increase. Thank you guys so much I appreciate the push to change how I looked at things. I also am audibling Sal’s book. It’s great info. I am having a lot of pain in my hips when squatting I think they are too tight, ankles are tight also but I’ve been watching a few videos you guys made on it to try to fix it. Keep doing what you guys are doing. You have a fan and listener for life here.

I've been lifting nearly 20 years and still benefit from hearing tips like this! I agree completely on the mobility Adam... 30 y/o me (heck, even 40 y/o me) would have never even considered mobility work and thought it was a waste of time. Now at 50 I can clearly see how it would overall improve the return on my lifting. Not to mention overall activities of daily living and quality of life. Geez.. I guess better late than never! Love the podcast guys.

What mobility work did you incorporate? Being a long time trainer have you altered your lifting routine at all since turning 50 to keep seeing progress?
@Laura-sx3ju
@Laura-sx3ju Год назад
@@amperage8032 I just follow a routine created for me from my boyfriend.. it was mostly for my hips and low back, which were giving me the most problems. Ironically enough, the changes to my lifting routine was to actually do LESS. This was tough for me mentally, but I realize now I was just beating myself up with volume. I want to be doing this for the long haul and now aim to do just enough to create a stimulus and take care to move my joints in more than just the sagital plane (previously my routine exclusively). I make sure to get in especially rotational movements.

On ur point of training frequency, I used to always do the same muscle group twice a week. The strongest I've ever been I did the same muscle group once a week, I thought it was stupid at first but I gave it some time and it showed me once a week is enough. I went every week I was consistent and I always gave it all I got every lift 1000%. Maybe twice a week for some people is beneficial to them more but to me personally once a week was good enough for me and made me stronger than ever.

around 36:29 YES! milk cannot be over-encouraged here if you're not intolerant and are having a hard time getting enough calories. i never really liked milk. but i was having a very hard time just eating at maintenance (in a healthy way, that is). i was at a loss because my appetite was so low, so i gave milk a try. i figured it had to be easier than trying to stuff myself more or chug protein shakes. and it definitely is! i still don't really like it on its own, but with a meal i was surprised how much I actually enjoyed it (even started to crave it wtf?). i drink about 12oz at each meal and it has been a huge help for hitting maintenance. 12oz 3x a day is about 675 calories. there's no way i could consistently hit a small surplus without it. fairlife makes milk that has less carbs and more protein too. it's more expensive so i don't drink it all the time, but it's tasty and it helps on days when i eat more carbs than normal. once money is less of an issue, i'll switch to it for my new milk habit.

I just got back into weight lifting a few years ago and only just started hitting each muscle group 2 times a week. It seems to be working. My strength gains have most definitely improved, especially since i started lowering the total sets. For the first several weeks I'd do for example: a full chest workout (15-18 sets) then come back a few days later and do half of that. Now it's more like a 60/40 split with different exercises on day 2.

So true even just 5-10 mins doing dynamic stretches before lifting and static stretches before bed on hips and ankles will give u waaay more gains and no joint pains

I had this same concept as well. Still sore, don't work that body part. Learned later in life that you need a "level" of soreness and sometimes you can hit that body part 2 or 3 times a week. I tend to split Legs/Shoulders, Chest, Back (w/ deadlifts at the end) skip day and Bi/Tri with my first and last exercise being a compound movement (gymnastic pull-ups and dips (first) and drag curls and close grip or JM Press (last).

I have been listening to a few of these podcast and the information you have given out is great for me because I have learnt things I whish I knew before training. Also I am looking to become a personal trainer or a physiotherapist to help people get fit or recover from an injury so I would love to get my hands on maps prime to deepen my knowledge of training . Also to help me get bigger. Thank for all the info you have given me

Thanks guys for the variety of content. In the course of building muscle over the last 30 yrs, I find my interest to now explore BPC157 / TB500 for injury and recovery. Don't exactly know where to get this stuff in Canada. At 57, finding I am still pressing 90-100 lbs dumbbells for chest, and deadlifting up to 4 1/2 plates. Now experimenting with more reps and different exercises. Keep it up.

Mindpump changed my life. As soon as a started doing the things y’all preach. I got more results in a month than I did with years of poor programming and following nutrition myths.
