I’d love to hear more on “Be clever with fabrics”. Being specific with your advice and explaining the reasons why regarding the choices made is very helpful. Thanks for another great video.
I would love more detail on all of the tips, especially flats with dressier clothes and accessories. You’re a gorgeous example of polished without being overdone😍
I absolutely love following you. The thing is I live in the US, Phoenix, Arizona. It gets to about 110° to 115° in the summertime so it’s hard to style with layers. Would you mind giving some ideas on how to dress casually elevated but with the hot temperatures in mind?
As always ❤amazing Lydia!!! Would love to see how to style mom looks with athletic smart looks for running errand , school runs, sports games and practices…. The daily mom at home looks! Thank you so much !! You are one of a kind here !!!
You always talk about the value of accessories, and have often mentioned how sunglasses can change an outfit. Would you do a video specifically on sunglasses: what type of sunglasses to wear with casual wear, dressy outfits, etc. Love your videos!
Great tips! I have been playing with blazers with crunches sleeves! Tip: put an elastic hair tie onto the sleeve, then scrunch the arm around it a bit, then scoot it up the arm. The sleeve stays in place!
Hi Lydia, loved the vlog. You do mention these tips ever so often in your postings, so important to be reminded. Thank you. I do love tip no. 10 ! But I push one sleeve up the other one comes down. Can you give me a tip how to keep both blazer sleeves pushed up without me having to fiddle all the time. Thank you ☺️ 💐
LOVE your Lessons with Lydia!! Would love more info on dressing down dressier pieces - find that many of my much-loved dressy pieces don't get much use, and would love to find a way to wear them more often!
I just love hearing your advices, dear Lydia! And one thing I truly appreciate about you is your natural beauty that compliments your classy style - no botched lips and alien cheeks here 🤍 such a rarity nowadays
1. I LOVE your hair 2. As a professional person, my wardrobe is 90% smart casual and 10% activewear. I wear basically the same thing on the weekend as I do to work and it has helped me SLAY whilst saving money 3. My fave tip was: wear basics in dressy colours.
Tip nr 5 - can you do a silver jewellery edition , please. Most of the earrings you recommend are only available in gold and that doesn't fit my colour scheme. Thanks
Lydia, can you please make more videos on business casual attire ? I work in a semi professional setting as a therapist, so I don’t want to be too flashy nor too relaxed
Finding quality accessories (e.g. belts) that will withstand the test of time isn’t easy. My faux leather (plastic) belts/bags all cracked w/in 1.5 years. Tips on what to look for in quality leather belts/bags (affordable) with excellent hardware, would be greatly appreciated.
I absolutely loved the last tip the most because I was thinking the whole time, how do I channel your beautiful outfits instead of dressing as if I’m going to work (where I also channel you LOL!!). The idea to swap out for one dressier or different thing is great. I can’t wait to try. Now I just need to be invited somewhere!!
I love all your advice. I am from South Africa, where the weather is very hot in the summer. What I would love is info on smart casual outfits for hot summers with temperatures of 35 to 40°C
Tip # 3 - Wear dressy clothes with flats. Tip #6 - Be clever with fabrics. Tip #11 - Roll up sleeves. Please expand on these tips. Thanks! 😊 Quick question: What gold bangles are you wearing in the video with your Sessei shirt?
All these tips are great - you could plan 11 videos to have lots of content to work on. My favourite though is tip 10. I think it could be expanded to general styling hacks: rolling sleeves, tucking tops, adding a scarf, even how you tied the loose end of the belt you're wearing here. I remember that Arket belt, I also have it. The buckle is something special 😊
I love the comment about scarves. As we move towards winter, sometime this fall, it would be great to see a video about styling scarves, especially the heavier chunky type, if they're on trend this year.
I'd say the majority of my smart casual dressing is dressing my smart pieces down rather than dressing my casual pieces up, if that makes sense. I don't work in an office, so a smart jacket is worn 99% of the time in a more casual outfit. So sneakers are my way of dressing less smart - I will wear a pair of low heels with jeans for an evening out, but I'm just as likely to wear a silk shirt, dark wash jeans and sneakers for a less formal evening look. A bigger but slouchy bag is also a staple for dressing smart trousers down.
Tip 11 I struggle with wearing trousers as I work in an office and guess what we wear trousers and although I've got 3 pairs of them, at home I don't wear them for work as I don't want to feel like I'm at work when wearing them 😊
I would like the hear more of Tip 11. Otherwise all great tips. Also, the bangles you have on this video, stunning. I don’t have instagram. Is LJT a website as well?
Great tips Lydia! I also make sure I balance my hair and makeup…hair can REALLY make the whole look, look off! Makeup too :) I’d love you talk about this more!
Can you please elaborate on how to roll up the sleeves cause they never stay up for me. And I get so annoyed putting them up over and over again 🥲 btw awesome content, your rules have really perfectionised my wardrobe 🤗
To keep your sleeves rolled up, roll it all the way down, put a hair scrunchy over the sleeve, then roll the sleeve over the scrunchy. Make sure the scrunchy is well hidden!
Great ideas, Lydia. I'm older and retired so love the casual, smart vibe you represent. I also live in a warm climate (Texas) so most of those looks are perfect for me. ❤ PS so glad that your looks are timeless and ageless.
I agree. This is, more or less, how I dress. So nice to have fashion advice that applies to me, a 70-year-old living in Australia, the land of smart casual.😊
Thanks Lydia. I have an olive green striped workwear pants that I’d like to wear on casual occasions. After this video, I think I can pair it up with a white linen shirt. What else can you recommend? It has been sitting in my wardrobe for 4 years now.
Tip six: Be clever with fabrics I am wondering. Can you mix textures of shoes and bag? For example, would velvet flats with an embellishment look good with a neutral handbag of different color and texture?
I have a fashion dilemma! I own 90% floral printed dresses or bold colored dresses. So when I go out i choose a pretty dress and flat sandals. I feel a little old fashioned compared to everyone’s minimal and oversized styles. I sometimes wear my dresses with sneakers which look good too. But I realized that it’s almost impossible to style my dresses differently. Should I change my style? Or does anyone know how else to change the look of those typically floral flowy dresses with accessories or anything else.
Dear Lydia, first of all I would love to say, that I really love and enjoy your content across all the platforms, especially YT! Tip 2: I would love to hear more on color combinations and perhaps which colors to avoid. - Advice on what suits a daytime Look vs. nighttime Tip 3/5/6: I would love to hear more about accessories in general - what shoes, belts, jewelry, bags, sunglasses, hair & make-up and how to combine with each outfit - Do's and Dont's Tip 7: Please more on dresses/jumpsuits and skirts, especially regarding warm weather In general i would love a Lookbook of various combinations for warmer and cooler weather and regarding daytime and nighttime looks. Thank you so much!
Very helpful tips. I roll my sleeves up to make me look a bit taller and yes for the more casual vibe. Can you share again the hack you did with a rubber band and button on the sleeve? I watched it, thought I'd remember and of course, I can't.😅 Thanks!
Super tips Lydia! That being said; something I do notice is that most of your tops are tucked in so perhaps a crash course as to 'how to' for the different lengths in garments themselves (as some are quite long), for the rise of the bottom plus the best choice for different figure types. Just a thought.
Hello Lydia! I’d love for you to expand on tip number 11, although that last tip pretty rounds it up, I find it difficult to separate my office look from an evening out most of the time. Thank you for such a lovely and so useful video 🥰🥰🥰
If wanting to just ruche up the sleeves; you can try using -- pony tail/ thermo plastic/'sprial' hair scrunchies that will hold most fabrics in place and be comfortable at the same time. A good size are those that stretch to at least 8.6" (21.844 cm.) i.e.: Amazon - 79 Style - 50 pieces that come in a clear plastic as well as assorted colours. Hope this helps.
Love your breakdowns Lydia, you're such a good teacher. I'm getting a lot already from your breakdowns of basic principles. I think a challenge is that it feels impossible to keep current with jeans/trousers and the way shapes/lengths/waists are constantly being updated. Having the right tops for where the waist falls gets tricky, especially with high, then lower waisted pants. Same with shoes. Having the right shoes for all the pant bottom shapes, lengths, etc. Hope that makes sense.
🤩Girl crush 😂 Could you do tips for dressing for different occupations? I’m a hairdresser and frequently get compliments when I follow your style tips! I find I can’t wear light clothing though as I get colour stains… so I try to buy Uniqlo or similar so if something gets ruined I’m not too upset. I do however buy just a few specific pieces that I keep aside for dressy or retire older dressy clothes to work wear. Seems to work! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
A bit off topic, but would love know what you do to maintain your lovely figure, what you wear when working out, diet etc. Could you do a YT video on this please? ❤
Enjoyed all your tips....Love the green shirt and would love to order but not sure how sizes relate to the US. Would like more ideas on accessories that are not jewelry. Great topic.
Another excellent video, Lydia! I would love to see you expand on #11 and #5. Tip #9 made me want to see a video on your current bag collection or a video on how you select your bag for particular outfits.Thank you for all your help with my wardrobe and styling it! You are my personal stylist (in my head). LOL!
I'd love to hear more about 'smart traveller' / 'blend in with locals' - kind of dressing. I'm going to Spain & Italy in October - 5 cities. Thanks for all your great tips.
I think you, just like all of us, are doing 2 things here, either making a smart outfit more casual or making casual smarter. They are slightly different things & depends on which element you want to emphasise. I’m never quite sure which way is intended in the invite, so maybe that’s why I struggle. You touched in this with the work to casual bit at the end. But I think 2 separate vids with the different starting points would be useful for me & help to clarify which is best for a particular occasion. Thank you.
Love watching your videos and learning your tips! I'm a stay-at-home mom so smart casual dressing fits the bill! I used to work in an office and I love blazers! I like to learn more about the last tip about dressing less office like. I'm usually in jeans and an oversized t-shirt and wearing some kind of jacket or cardigan with my converse sneakers.
Always inspired by Lydia. Elegant, timeless and the tips are all on point... I tried my best to follow some of the tips but being a running errand mom. I can not use a small bag. I hope Lydia can give more inspirational tip on the type of medium sophisticated light bags. Thanks for these lovely tips. ❤
I would agree with some of the other comments: be clever with fabrics could be wonderful content. Could include how different fabrics typically lay or flow on the body, and how that can lend items a "classier" look overall. Thank you for your tips!
Tip no.5 please - I've started to appreciate the impact of statement jewellery on overall outfits but don't know the do's and don'ts around this (requires trial and error currently) and where to get nice statement jewellery.
