A quick list of 11 things that have helped my astrophotography over the past 12-14 years of photographing the stars. This is focused on landscape astrophotography. In retrospect when uploading - I could also have added - working for someone else - it's when you have to capture the stars for someone elses requirements, makes you think more. Also timelapsing which has occupied a lot of my astrophotography over the past couple of years - there are lots of additional considerations with landscapte timelapsing which will be covered in a future post.
Sponsored by Skywatcher (in a round about sort of way). I'm not being paid by Skywatcher but there is a promotion for them inside the video.

Great video. I am an astrophotography novice, but was very pleased with my first astro panorama taken with my inexpensive 14mm 2.8 and full frame camera mounted on a travel tripod whilst on holiday. I wasn't expecting it to work, but it stitched without a problem in Lightroom. My first selfie wasn't too bad either. Without Photopils I would have been in the dark 🤪. And at last someone who mentions the importance of monitor calibration! I can see how people get into this genre.

thought it was important to say it's from my point of view - there are so many people saying THIS is how it must be done - and if I'd listened to all those people, I wouldn't be where I am ;)

thanks - hoping to be more regular. I've already scheduled the next one and shot the one after. I actually have a list of topics that goes on for more than a year based on 1 per week.

Great Video Michael, I've done a few single or stacked shots before but you have inspired me to have a go at some astro panorama shots.

speaking of which - I've been meaning to do stacked panoramas :P - I've done a little bit, but I have a particular visualisation that will take a long time. I think I've got the gear to automate most of it now.

Thanks for sharing these tips and tricks Michael. I was fortunate enough to have won a Skywatcher Star Adventurer 2i from the last time this competition was run. While there is a bit of a learning curve to using trackers, there is little doubt in my mind if you persist they will help raise the quality of your images to the next level.

Great work there Michael, do really enjoy your images as well as Richard Tatty. I did purchase a used star adventurer and will take it down to the South Island in July. I love your comment, getting a bit cooler ! been bloody freezing over here in NZ windy and wet then clear but cool. Cheers

Have you tried Planit Pro? I think you would like it for planning.
