I actually like the “legally distinct” names of Leon and Chris, as “Leon Keenedy” and “Chris Bluefield” are both still referencing their Resident Evil counterparts while also poking a bit of fun at Capcom’s lawyers getting angry at Techland over this Easter egg.
It was not the easter egg per se, but the name used for the 2 character, since they are copyrighted it didn't matter the character model or the context, but they used the "appropriate name" so it started the lawsuit
@@jamespaul6315 the fact is that, even as homage, unfortunately, without the proper license for using those two names techland incorred in a lawsuit. They simply responded to Capcom "we change the name don't worry and sorry".

GTA San Andreas has an easter egg for Driv3r. Theres a mission where you need to sneak into someone's mansion, and you walk by two dudes playing a game, and they say something along the lines of "Damn reflections really messed up, Tanner you suck!"
The MGS3 easter egg reminds me of that Cutscene from one of the Ghost Recon game where Sam Fisher learns he's the last of the Stealth game heroes. I believe he references Snake in that same cutscene by calling him the guy with the eyepatch, although I could be wrong in the wording
It's actually really sweet how Sam and Snake reference each other a few times in games. In the first splinter cell game there is a guard you can interrogate and he says "it's not like if you shake me, ammo will fall out of something"
Duke is making a comeback. The REAL Duke Nukem Forever we all wanted to play is being worked on now as we speak. It's going to be a hit and then it's going to peak Duke Nukem interest in the public again. Let's hope this comment ages like fine wine 🍷
I think a better way to describe Duke Nukem is "fallen out of relevancy" rather than being forgotten. A lot of gamers still remember the games (I'm 19 and was born in 2004, so most of Duke Nukem was way before my time and I still know about the game series), but it's not talked about in regards to modern day gaming because it's just not really present, unlike Doom which have had muiltple critically acclaimed games in the past few years and is getting another sequel. I remember seeing something outside this comment thread that stated that another Duke Nukem game is in the works, so while I don't know if that's true or just a rumor, if it is than maybe Duke can be relevant again. But for the time being, Doom is just far more relevant in modern gaming culture than Duke is, which is why it seems a lot more people talk about Doom Slayer.

Given that the first one was the Doom-ed Space Marine from 3D, I thought the last one was going to be the Dead Space Marine (i.e. the dead GDF soldier wearing a helmet reminiscent of Isaac Clarkes' from Dead Space) from DNF.

I would say that one is a bit more sincere to be honest (although it was during the time during the fallout between Konami and kojima although that one is a more died down in more recent years) Sam Fisher's mostly true cameos and with occasional appearances (maybe one day new game one day) METAL GEAR SOLID DELTA IS COMING Although the only one I feel like truly lives nowadays is Hitman Also there's one more but that company shut down for personal reasons (but kind of wish they never shut down)

There was a Tanner nod in GTA3, Vice City and even San Andreas. In SA there was even True Crime reference. New editions of Duke Nukem got a Serious Sam reference, original Serious Sam whistles Indiana Jones theme… but one of my favorites was in Ghost Recon Wildlands when Sam Fisher realises that he is the only one left…

It's been a while since I played Duke Nukem 3D but I'm pretty sure in one of the levels there's an earthquake and Duke says something like "I ain't afraid of no quake.", which is clearly a jab at id Softwares game of the same name, which was released just a few months after Duke.
In Ghost runner you can also find a dead body with a rooster mask, referencing Hotline Miami. There is also a funko pop doll of your character hidden in a vent, wich made me think of the Doom 2016 figures collection.
Pretty sure the line in the witcher easter egg about the horse being stuffed is also a reference to the fact that they reference in game (not sure about the books) that they have some sort of kink with a stuffed unicorn.
I really like how the stealth shooter genre games referance eachother so often. It sometimes makes me imagine this fantasy world where they all have actually met at one point in time or another
The original Shadow Warrior, from 97, also had a Lara Croft Easter Egg. In fact, there are two separate versions of the Easter Egg. Both versions have Lara Croft chained to a wall, with Lo Wang saying "She's raided her last tomb!" In the original shareware version of the game, this Easter Egg had Lara's clothes almost completely torn off, leaving her half naked. She also had large, anime styled eyes. However, later versions of the game changed this. Her pose while chained up was different, and she looked more on brand with her design. She was also fully clothed.
In the game "Blood", on the carnival level, behind the high wire is a secret where you can find duke nukem and your character says "I ain't got time to play you"

Here's one In dying light 1 there's this fountain in the second area that you can fill a coffee mug with water, after that your character will pull out a phone and take a selfie with the mug. This is a jab at destiny who partnered up with Red Bull to have exclusive rewards like a mission and XP bonuses, the developers techland would pose a similar promotion poking fun at Bungie
I don't know if you've ever covered this one, but you should cover the boundary limit animation from Splashdown Rides Gone Wild. The player gets thrown by a Kraken. There's a few other easter eggs/references in that classic too.

It's absolutely hilarious that Duke is taking shots at 3 video game icons that can absolutely destroy him in a fight when he himself is more egotistical than most of the characters in video games and that saying something.
Driver 3 looks like the kind of game a movie uses for a scene where they need to use a game that's unlicensed so they can use the footage without being sued
I love that Snake Eater referenced Splinter Cell because several years later in Ghost Recon Wildlands, the Splinter Cell mission (while not directly saying his name) referenced Snake and they said he was retired, possibly another reference to how there hadn't been a new MGS game in a long time. I remember how Duke Nukem Forever was taking so long to be released that the developers of Serious Sam 2 added an easter egg where you can find an skeleton that looks like Duke hanging from a parachute and when you aproach it Sam says "Dude, looks like you have been hanging FOREVER" or something like that.
In Duke 3D : 20th anniversary World Tour, there's a similar easter egg to the Doom one where Duke can find a corpse of Serious Sam and says the line "Why so serious, Sam?". This easter egg is possibly a reference an the easter egg from Serious Sam 2 where you can find a Duke Nukem skeleton hanging on a tree with a rocket shove up the butt, to which Sam says "Dude, you've been hanging here, like, forever!"
my favorite dig at bad company 2 was that it was squeezed between the 2 best cod games. MW2 which sold 4.7 million copies on launch day alone (compared to BC2 selling 5mil in a year), and in the same year BC2 released Black Ops 1 released... which sold 5.6 million copies on launch day and is still the most sold cod as far as I know. As a fan of all the games I can admit BC2's campaign was a bit ass (I replayed it a few months ago and regret breaking my rose tinted glasses).
You missed the *other* Lara Croft reference in Time to Kill, granted I'm not sure how well you could show it on RU-vid. In the subways you can find inteactable public phones. The result is a series of rather explicit moans, followed by Duke commenting, "Lara, is that you?" :-)

I heard that in God of war(2005) David Jaffe wanted to put a small fairy like creature like that from Zelda which would show Kratos how to use his weapons and magic, and after teaching you the basics it would be instantly killed of in a brutal way!
You mention Duke Nukem 3D being up against Quake, then make a Doom reference when there was a much more obvious Quake joke to be had. There's an earthquake during one level (been too long, can't remember which), to which Duke quips, "I ain't afraid of no quake!"
I find it ironic how Duke Nukem made fun of DOOM, Halo, and Tomb Raider, and also implying that DOOM would die and Duke Nukem would reign supreme as the FPS king. Now the Duke Nukem franchise is dead, while DOOM is still going strong with a new game releasing in 2025, Halo Infinite (2021) is still getting support, and Tomb Raider just recently had a remaster collection of the first 3 games.
What about The Witcher 2 and Assassin's Creed? You can find a dead Altair lookalike on a pile of hay with Geralt commenting "guess they'll never learn".
8:38 After Driv3r, came GTA San Andreas. And in the game, in San Fierro you can find the Opposition Memorial with the words RIP Opposition (1997 - 2004). This, according to the Wikia, is a reference to that the release of San Andreas in 2004 "killed" the opposition, the competition to GTA like Driver and True Crime, that have come and gone since the start of Grand Theft Auto in 1997. Also, someone else pointed out the reference in Madd Dogg's Rhymes mission where a guy playing a video game threw his controller and shouted "Tanner, you suck!"
There are 2 video game Easter Eggs in the chapel of the Duke Nukem 3d level 'Death Row'. The first Easter Egg is the Doomguy from Doom, but the second Easter Egg in the chapel is that of the monk from the game Rise of The Triad, hanging from the rafters and when you shoot the monk you'll get atomic health.
I think Serious Sam did a whole bunch of easter egg insults to other games...in one specific I remember them poking fun at "the Duke", a skeleton with blonde hair 🤣

If you look at some of the books in one of the rooms in Doom Slayers ship in Doom Eternal one of the books is called “Dork Norkem Forever”. The back and forth rips on each other go on to this day
