I don't see anything wrong working on your bike in the kitchen and using the kitchen table.

Little tip on flooring: I always have the cut out side of a big cardboard bike box on the floor below the work stand. When it gets too dirty and disgusting, I replace it and the real floor never gets dirty.

As I dont have a designated work area, I have to old camera flight cases, converted into layered tool cases, one for every day use and the other for tubeless and brake work. This way I can set up anywhere. Also I use my compressor to dry out a freshly cleaned chain before relubing.

You have to have a label maker (one of those sticky ones like the old dymos) - because we all buy stuff to fit that one 'thing', put it in a drawer and then forget what it was for... proprietary sucks!

Air compressor are a must, why use a chemical, etc to remove water when all you need is compressed air. Bearings will never stay wet it's a must have.

A dream build work shop would be a full shop with all the tools! My setup is minimal and just the basic tools from bikehand in a case and ive had some tools that my neighbor needs to borrow. He has more bikes to maintain than I.

Ive never understood the need that seems to be a RU-vid bike workshop standard, to have all your tools all over the walls, like some trophy case. I keep my tools in a traditional tool box and find it much easier to grab. I then have my most used tools placed on a small bike stand tool holder. Spares, greases and cleaners are in shelving repurposed from a kitchen remodel. Not worthy of a photo but very useful.

Same here. Use a 5 drawer Craftsman tool chest on the floor. No fancy desk either, just the floor! Tools all over the walls is just dumb.

@@dystopiaisutopiai have the tools I use all the time on the wall. It makes it super quick to grab what I need. Otherwise they are arranged in drawers depending on maintenance or big works.

When Park Tools have provided all your tools for free, they would be pretty upset if you put them all in drawers and didn't feature them prominently in your workshop videos! The idea of having a tool wall with a place for each tool, which is then outlined so you know exactly where a specific tool came from, or you can glance and see what tools are missing, has been around for a long time. A bit like having laser cut foam inserts in your drawers. I have a bit of a mix. I have two workspace areas, my main area is in the garage, Park two bike shop stand and a tool chest made comprising the DeWalt T-Stak units so I have a mixture of deep and narrow drawers, with different levels of segmentation depending on what tools/parts go where. I also have an area in the basement for working on bikes in the winter when garage is absolutely freezing, and also that's where I do all my suspension work. I use the wall storage bins there, with tools and spares for different suspension brands organised accordingly, a bench mounted 'stand' to hold forks, a vice for shocks etc... I'm bad at not putting tools back, because I'll use it again in a minute, and before I know it I have a big mess on my hands.

@@chiefsilverback -point taken. I just thought it was weird to show others that this is a normal shop layout.

I may not have the fanciest but probably the motliest bike shed. Imagine parts and tools for an XC bike, a gravel bike, and a fat bike. 😂

Well I've built up all my bikes without a bike stand, so technically they aren't "essential." I made a headset press for $10 from the hardware store using a long bolt and washers. You should give people money saving tips like that, and not just promoting overpriced tools.

I used to work without a work stand. Then I bought one, and regretted every day I had wrenched without one. It's essential for quality of life/ergonomics/efficiency.
