Yes they tend to flash, which is much more dramatic than the sort of overall bright "crushed ice" appearance of modern diamonds.

You can get old cuts from Jewels by Grace from the US, also from the US, Distinctive Gem have designed modern cushion and round diamonds cut to the old proportions but maximised to give the greatest sparkle.

@@mchapman1928 Absolutely right, crushed ice in a diamond generally indicates it's a pooper, especially in round cut diamonds. In some fancy shapes, crushed ice is permissible if you like that sort of thing and the stone performs.

Russia has the equivalent of housefuls of diamonds in storage...and an agreement with De Beers NOT to release them onto the market... otherwise the only value would be for industrial use...
