A girlfriend of mine gave me a hand crank radio for my 41st birthday in 1999 just in case Y2K caused the tech world to wet the bed. It was a thoughtful gift but not very practical. You had to crank the handle like 99 rotations to get five minutes of radio play. It was more exhausting than sex.
Maybe a comparison is with clockwork radio - or to put it another way what is the shelf life of the 18650 cell. Hope someone is keeping non-digital radio going for emergencies.
I thought it was interesting! It's a product category I didn't pay much attention to, and it's always handy to have an emergency radio and flashlight around -- you never know when you'll lose power for an extended period.
