I think what I appreciate most about Martijns visual journals, is that it tells a universal human story that relates to all of us. We arrive in the world with a deep desire to find a place we can call our home. A place that like the oceans forms the rocks and beaches on its shore, can mould and shape us as people. We long to find who we are in the big scheme of the natural world and with what can we contribute. Will we find a place to spend our life which in a sense is larger than ourselves, and where our legacy and memory somehow can live on, even after the days when we are the ones who lived long ago. Fame and fortune dissolve into meaninglessness when we’ve found our sense of coming home. Many might leave the world having these questions unanswered, but too see someone who takes the time and makes the effort and sacrifices in order to make for themselves a true home, is probably what’s most inspiring.
So true! Wonderfully said! But not everybody can do it as Martijn does, because we have lost our roots, our bond to nature and the knowlege for self reliance!
The chickens are scared shitless about the mountain predators when the camera isn't rolling, and the greenhouse won't survive the next fune ...# get offline and live a real off-grid life.
Beautiful greenhouse! But you never do anything halfway. Love the music you choose for your videos. They never overpower the beauty you show us. Also, the birds singing is always wonderful to hear. Still waiting to hear the cowbells! Take care and thank you for taking us on your journey with you. It is wonderful! Blessings
I always enjoy your videos. As I read the comments each week from people all over the world. It is obvious no matter what part of the world we come from we are not that much different. So why can’t we all live in Peace and Harmony working together for the betterment of us all as God tells us to in the Bible. Happy Fathers Day to all Fathers may everyone find God’s grace and mercy.
Because we are governed by power-hungry individuals who are jealous of each other. Plus, We The People, are not smart enough as a group to say, 'No,' we are not going to kill each other for you; now go away and leave us alone.
If you know The God of The Bible, you should know that, though many of us are able to live in peace with others, too many won't. Sin is still real, still holding sway over much of societies; satan is still around wreaking as much havoc as he possibly can; and the governments of the world are gathering to fight against The living God in the final battles of that horrifying season of judgement coming upon this fallen world.
I rarely comment, if ever, but oh my... Martijn, you never do anything status quo, half way, or mundane! It's in the details that you surpass your contemporaries! Exquisite! 💙💜💚
It is Martijn’s journey by bicycle bi cannot remember where he started but he ended up at the southern tip of South America. There is a video of his travel as well.
Top o the morning to all of you 😁 well nobody really says that 😁 maybe in movies from the 50s like Darby o Gill and the little People, haha thanks for the comments anyway lovely people 💚💚💚💚
I’ve long equated your work to performance art. You create wonderfully curated content that is aesthetically gorgeous and acoustically soothing. You show a way of life that is the envy of so many who seek something authentic and is in touch with nature…the antithesis of our modern life. It’s narrative art, much like a great novel. Except it unfolds in real time week by week. I’m drawn as much to the technique of your filmmaking as to the craftsmanship of your work. Few in the RU-vid space go to the trouble of color-grading as you do on a weekly basis. And, the sound quality of your films is probably the thing that grabs most viewers without them even knowing. I don’t know how you do it…can’t spot any mics on you and yet we hear everything. You’re living a mini-series :) You’re the star with a supporting cast of a hermit priest, chickens, your family, your car, and a host of other characters. Lastly, you do your monologues in a way that’s like talking to a good friend. It’s intimate and ernest. We certainly appreciate your work. It’s a source of enjoyment and inspiration to us for a couple of years now and indirectly contributed to us owning a slice of the Cottian Alps. Much appreciated!
What a considerate comment. It made me wonder: do you think really his film material is color corrected? Johannes , in his series , talked about the projection through videos that will never be the real thing.
What a wonderful place to call "Home". You have worked so hard to achieve this but I know you have enjoyed your journey. It must be hard to wake up to a beautiful day with the birds singing and smelling the fresh air. Well done Martijn.
My morning has been busy. Not anywhere close to Martijn's busy, but it feels good to be productive, pay attention to the garden, hang clothes to dry, prepare food for the day, and then! it's time to sit down with an espresso and Martijn's posting. Another beautiful, peaceful journey through a day in the mountains with Martijn. The greenhouse is splendid. The walks never seem to be in the same place or as the season progresses, maybe they look different. Once again, the birds, chickens, and cowbells are so relaxing. Thank you, Martijn. Have a wonderful week, everyone, & please... send prayers around the world to those who are not experiencing peace now.
I like that you have a very realistic work/life balance. When you had to have shelter for Winter you worked very hard every day to get it done. Now that you have permanent shelter you are moving at a relaxed pace and taking more time for yourself. Good life lesson.😊
Lovely now that Martijn is no longer focused upon getting the first cabin finished, he can now turn his attention and care to the property at large, carving out a trail in the impenetrable forest to the lovely old beech tree, building this stunning greenhouse, and hopefully soon, starting on the workshop, storage and new outdoor kitchen/workspace above the cabins! This is a banner year in his beautiful quest to build a life in the Piedmont. We're so very lucky we get to tag along! Thanks you from Cajun country in south Louisiana, Martijn!
You mean destroying forest habitat and cutting down trees potentially with birds nests in them, in a period when you're not allowed to fell trees under forestry laws..He's amazing 😍
@@BobKelly-fr5kh Gosh, Bob. Maybe he shouldn't be allowed to drive his new Mitsubishi Pajero down the mountain roads as hapless salamanders, newts, snails and Piedmont worms might get crushed under the cruel wheels. "Forest habitat" eh? LOOK! There's Bambi!! But seriously... If you've watched every episode, you know that the "forest habitat" Martijn cleared a path through to the old beech tree, was meadow when he bought it. The birch and other trees grow incredibly fast, and Martijn's 6 acres would be entirely forested in a couple years if he didn't clear the trees back. He's not clearing historic old-growth forests, it's more akin to clearing weeds from a suburban lawn.
@@duncanfrere2656 I appreciate your two cents...great Mitsubishi Pajero plug btw...need a new car? It sounds like you don't care about any of the ecological affects impacting the very sensitive area that is Val pellice (which happens to be one of the only Alps valleys in Italy that has a dead-end road, no highway through it and isn't industrialized!). I manage a wild bird rescue, research and sanctuary in Angrogna, Val Pellice. I am sure that if you are such a devoted fan(arse kisser) and, having watched every episode from your armchair, you'll know where Angrogna is and how very important it is to help this forested corridor under pressure from an overpopulated France, Germany and Italy. Throwing around terms like "historic old growth forests" in relationship to the Alps geology, Piemontese history and the European migratory birds in this area makes you look stupid. Most old trees here are about 60-100 years - overgrown grazing land. Barfe has an altitude of 1000+ metres where trees grow slowly, So the term "historic old growth forest" has no significance in relation to my concern/comment about cutting trees down in spring and summer in Angrogna where there is a legal ban on cutting down trees in the spring and summer (trees are in leaf and birds seek a safe nesting location). I suggest you get offline and get outdoors to smell the roses before making such criticisms based on your ill informed, RU-vid fantasy world concepts.

As for the Piemontese worm...you need to get out of your RU-vid armchair and get outdoors , maybe in your local area you can devote as much brain energy into the surrounding wildlife and nature as you did in your reply to my comment.
Aloha from Hawaii LOVE the flowers by the house. And the first real cow bells of the year down the mountain. And the chickens seem to be doing well together.🌸
Then I stop for a while and I start thinking to the amazing dedication for the art of cinematography Martin possesses.. to draw out the drone and follow the car climbing up the steep road on the woods.. just a 3 seconds footage in a 40min video.. but so meaningful and so relevant to the storytelling. And the music theme, just wonderful.
Ohhh so sweet! Lovely greenhouse! Beautiful design. Perfect BG music. We love the poultry family’s participation. Thank you, Martijn. I’m looking forward to next week.
No partner or children or close companionship or even much human communication. Might me good for a few but it certainly isn’t a natural human environment.
Wtf..selling your soul to the RU-vid devil in a contract to sacrifice your privacy, ego and your valuable time on the illusion that you can be famous and make money entertaining and distracting the vaccinated sheep on their couches drinking coffee on a Sunday morning.
What, watching a fake and contrived RU-vid fantasy world...I don't know what sort of human existence you are hoping for. Maybe you can ask some local families in Val Pellice what mountain living should be ... Getting a couple of chickens for the cute factor and planting a few GM modified vegetable plants for all those cough potatoes won't be their answer .
Greetings from Pennsylvania, US. Your channel is the one I look forward to the most! The craftsmanship, the mountain views and the simple elegance of what you have created is incredible! Enjoy your week, Martijn
I totally agree, that this channel is my favorite. Your attention to detail, the serenity, the views are so calming and inspiring. I so admire your work ethic and it's no wonder that you get such amazing results. The greenhouse is AWESOME! Have a safe and productive week!
I look forward to it every week too. I wait until bedtime to watch it so there is complete peace. I too love Martjin’s complete ‘can do’ attitude, anything he wants he just composes on his computer programme and buys the wood and makes it appear. What I like most though is that Martin wants to live in compatability with his world and does not try to dominate the beauty and massiveness around him
The greenhouse is a little glass jewel tucked into the mountains, another creative piece of art that martijin shares with us. Do u ever think about all the lives past and present that lived and worked in the abandoned buildings on his walks, so quiet now, but used to have life.
Even the greenhouse has style and authenticity. Another great job Martin. The birdsong, chickens clucking and scratching, beautiful mountains.....it is soothing and so magical.
Hi Martijn, to help your garden you can use one 5 gal bucket and two packets of yeast and poor around the each garden plant to jump start its growth. Enjoy watching you and the progress you are making on project that you do.
I’m sitting back with a hot coffee and watching Martijn, and feel apart of it all in some way Thank you Martijn Doolaard for sharing your life with us all Stan (From Ontario Canada 🍁 🇨🇦)
Your Viewers say it all very well about what you bring to us. Thank you& good health. We here in our spot on this beautiful earth are gardening& so forth as time rolls along.
Martijn , this is the build I have been looking forward to for a long time. I am never surprised at the perfection of everything you construct. The greenhouse is a work of art. You will be able to grow most anything you want in your greenhouse. Can’t wait to see what is next. Again as aways, thank you for taking us on this incredible journey. Ann from Va. USA 🇺🇸
It already looks elegant, Martijn, even with the temporary roof you put on. Waiting to see the finished product. Sure you enjoyed your walk in the mysterious mist and glad to see the chickens seem to be a unit now.
Good morning! 😄🌞🌻Sitting down to enjoy both my coffee and your weekly video, after having done my own early morning gardening chores. 😄 Happy Father’s Day to all the men who nurture their families and our world.
My favorite moment in this wonderful episode was the dinner plate arc on the rafters! Those decisions give you a smile for years to come - if you remember them?!
Your attention to detail as always is amazing. The greenhouse is going to look incredible. Lovely seeing everything coming to life again, beautiful greens.
My life has slowed down considerably as I have to wait for Sunday every week which seems to take forever to get here. Then the anticipation of knowing Martijn's video is up but I have to wait, savoring, like a cat with a mouse, to make my breakfast and coffee so I can eat while Martijn cooks and eats. The greenhouse is very attractive and has me thinking I should replace my ugly pvc pipe hoop houses with something nicer. I am inspired.
Martin, everything you turn your hand to do turns out a thing of beauty. There are no shortcuts or haphazard work and I am so impressed with your artistic life. You live a are well planned life. I'm in awe.
Everything looks great on the greenhouse….I think the chickens were liking it too(😊) Thankyou for the walks . Appreciate you take the time to share such beauty.
That shot of you eating Bruschetta, sitting in the sunlight, the geraniums and the beautiful mountains really took my breath away. The greenhouse is so pretty, superb editing, adore these Sunday episodes. Thankyou Martijn.
Thank you for all the nature shots you included. Beautiful time of the year. Your place keeps looking more beautiful and more serene by the week. I enjoyed that you took us around with you while doing your various projects. You are so gifted in so many ways. Your sense of design is incredible. Truly a Renaissance Man.
One of the nicest videos you have posted Martijn. Thankyou for the beautiful scenery. The walk was calming. And your work on the greenhouse just a joy to watch. Thanks!
Thank you again. And almost 78, I notice a phenomenal shared by builders creators and those who contemplate, tell at the end of the day when you reach a certain stage you sit down with your favorite beverage, relax, appreciate the state of your current achievement and contemplate what's your next steps are. Best wishes, antiguajohn
Beautiful!!! Everything!!! The plants you are planting, the greenhouse, the chickens, your home, the views, the mountain, the birds... simply magical! 😊❤
Absolutely perfect as always. Just a beautiful building again. Thank you for this blissful Sunday journey with you. Such a pleasure to spend this time with you
And Martijn. You created another winner. Appreciate the fact that you don't run to buy another bunch of environmental damaging stuff to create what you want. You make things work and it's wonderful that you stick to your vision. When watching the nature photography today i could feel myself breathing deeply again. Thanks. Glad to see the little chicken flock lying together and loved the way they came to inspect the greenhouse. Blessings for the week.
Another day in the mountains with Martijn. I look forward to your videos Martijn, they bring a calmness to my chaotic world around me. The walks through the forest, the lighting. the clouds, the beautiful landscape what more could one want. Your music choice everything is excellent and your chickens love your green house they have given you their approval. Have a lovely day Martijn and every one of Martijns followers. Till next week.
Think of the scared shitlessss chicken fearing for their lives from all the predators when the camera isn't rolling! In that valley. It's unethical to keep chickens outdoors above 1000metres ..too many eagles and hawks ....maybe you should get offline and explore your local area for a real nature fix ...and not a fake one
Martijn, you are so incredibly talented. Thank you for sharing your little bit of heaven with us. Sending loving and peace-filled thoughts to everyone.
I always love to see the mountains, but HELLO.... WHAT A SCENERY ON THAT WALK! 🤯 So pretty! And the bells of the cows, can't wait until we hear them in your area in the background. I've missed them.
You need to get one of those clearing knives to weed out small bushes and shrubs. Easier on your back ! Loved the footage from your walk, some parts were like an enchanted forest
Martijn, very nice job on green house....and I enjoy your video of the tiniest of animals reacting with nature. Thank you each week for your appreciation of all that I love. Sherry from Kingman Az USA
I’m a poet, a very old poet :-), and I often find those atmospheric walks of yours in the snow, in the mist etc very stimulating….hence the adaptation of Tolkein’s poem of Over the hills and far away. You have, if you don’t mind my saying so, a poetic view of the mountains, forests and long forgotten cottages that is just beautiful. I did start a poem of my own on that walk of yours, up through the forest and the mist, which will take a while to complete and work on and it’s too big to get on here, but thanks, thanks for all the work and dedication you put into your vids. I’m too old and frail, and my spaniel is also :-) to come visit you but I appreciate that through the vids you come and visit us. All good wishes from me and Meg, the spaniel
Oh, how I miss the mountain air. It's been years. Watching your videos always brings me a sense of home, and a wave of peace washes over me, calming my spirit.
In this chaotic mixed up world… it’s Monday 17th June 2024 06:00 and it’s a sunny morning and I’m lying in bed relaxing with a rescue cat who is so loving …feeling chilled and enjoying this beautiful video… feeling that the best things in life are feeling the sun on your face, feeling love and enjoying nature. Thank you Martijn for sharing your amazing life with us here . ❤
Of all the channels I follow this one is my favorite!! Continue to be amazed at the wonderful transformation of your property over these years. The greenhouse is beautiful!!
I love the way the solid feeling of the greenhouse fits within the times-gone-by world of the stone buildings. Those curved pieces of wood make my heart sing. Here I am, alone in the bush in Canada, enjoying your way of being apart from the crazy world while enjoying life.
Are you serious...a slapped up window frame green house with no solid foundation, and it's sole purpose to film some vegetable growing videos for the couch potatoes and to qualify as a homesteading RU-vid video... doesn't even compare with a 200 year old stone animal shed that was built by very poor hard working mountain farmers. Get offline and re-grasp reality
Well done. I like the greenhouse with used windows. Today I gave some tomatoplans away. To faraway, dear Martijn. I had more than enough. It make me happy to see the smile on the faces about the unexpected present. Everyone has a story why they are happy get my ones.
Yr so clever n creative Martjin. The greenhouse reminds me of the quaint little chapel that my son got married in...I ❤ it. Magnificent misty countryside.🌲🌳🍃🪴 You continue to delight us more n more each week. Yr still the GOAT imho. 🎉 Cheers n gratitude from Oz
We grew two grape vines in our conservatory here in the uk. A black grape and a white. They were prolific fruiters and we had huge fun picking them every year. We learnt how to ‘shoulder’ the bunches, train the vines and cut them back. They provided a gentle canopy of shade too. Your greenhouse is fabulous. Peace ✌️
basil, yes. leaf lettuce, yes. First shot of the chickens in the greenhouse I thought to myself, 'uh oh! They think it's their new home.' Second shot and I was sure the girls were measuring for new curtains! Loved all the music in this week's show.
I watch nothing but Utube have for years. And I don't comment. But you and what you do are truly something special. I love your style your attitude towards life and family. I've been sick for a while and your show truly gives me such a beautiful place to escape. Thank you. God bless and keep on keeping on😂 😁
I enjoyed a book by Michael Pollan, A PLACE OF MY OWN. In a print version, it tells essentially a story similar to Martijn's....only it is a writer's studio on a New England farm, Pollan's story of designing, constructing painstakingly, and using it. Highly recommend it for those who are enjoying our journey with Martijn.
I just realized with all of the interesting and delicious looking food you make, you should put together and publish a cookbook. I would totally buy it! 😋
Martjin I love your channel. I use to watch jake and nicole, but they didn't have your will and determination and gave up. Your are the most watched offgrid living channel now. And the only one of it's kind left. You do everything so well, very satisfying to watch. Thank you. I hope you carry on with this for a long time. Well done with everything. You rock! Regards: Harry, from South Africa, Johanesburg.
I'm adding this because of your garden flop with your potatoes last year as you mentioned that they were rotten. I'm getting ready to put up a greenhouse as well. In the past I have had success with potatoes and sometimes barely. So I've been collaborating with someone who is very successful. She says the key is to take your seeding potatoes and cut them into pieces and place them in a single file in the sun to cure. Or if bad weather, bring inside and place on paper for a few days. The cut sides develop a hard covering called a 'callous', during process and will prevent the seed tuber from rotting after planting. Hope this helps you get a good crop of potatoes this year.
