The smaller padlocks can be more difficult to pick simply because of the lack of space for a tension tool and pick. Tension tools are a very important part of picking just as much as the picks themselves.
Great video! Tension was the biggest thing I struggled with when I was first learning to pick. Every lock is different and sometimes you even have to improvise with your tensioners like you did here. Really good advise, I really enjoyed it.
Generally lots of tension but like you I have found several cheap Chinese locks actually open wait with lighter tension. I thought it was just me but here is proof that even some cheap locks open better with light tension. Looking at the coating on that lock the body might be cast. At least TriCircle use brass 😂
