I was originally going to get the Badland Apex from Harbor Freight:

But the RC is 1" shorter, which allows it to fit into the tight spot I have in the Westin HDX Pro front bumper. There's also this cheap winch, that I don't know anything about:

If anyone knows about this winch, please drop some info in the comments.

I had the same experience with RC. I installed this winch on my 4Runner a couple of months ago and I love it. I ordered the 9,500 lb with synthetic cable but they sent me the 12,000 lb. I was scared it wasn’t going to fit but it does and it was on the porch a couple days after ordering it. RC for the win

Have the same bumper. Did the exact same thing you did. Purchased the Harbour Freight 12K winch and found out that it doesn't fit. Took back and got the Rough Country because of your video. Also got the lights for the bumper because the ones someone recommended (previous to your video ) were out of stock. Brighter than truck lights. Thank you for your channel and videos.

We bought the iron cross bumper ended up cutting out the letters and still put the 12k winch on it.

The badlands winch you can take the control box off the top and relocate it..had to do that on my silverado..great video bud..like your content bud

@@NickMango no it doesn't void warranty..I put it on my 1500 and my aftermarket bumper wouldn't fit it as well..I have to make new cables because the factory winch wires wouldn't reach into my engine compartment ,where I wanted to mount it anyway..I put it on a homemade pedestal where second battery would normally go..worked out better there because electronics where now under the hood ,dry..my second battery is in back seat area so I had the room there..glad your worked out good luck with it my friend

We ended up cutting the iron cross letters on the bumper and still put the winch in it.

If I remember right, the winch includes the longer wires to relocate the control box. At least on the APX version of the HF. So wouldn’t void the warranty since they include the things to relocate it. I was looking at the HF one, went with RC because of the warranty.

I could not get a Harbor Freight winch installed because of the size also. So I got a 13,000 lb winch from Amazon, but I installed a 500 amp fuse for it from Amazon, so that I would not fry the battery/cable. The fuse and holder is like under $15.00 so very cheap insurance. I install it on my military Humvee which people said could not be done.

Only the diesels have that. And unfortunately, in the hemi they fill the other spot with computer related stuff. It’s a real pain to get a second one in. Need to custom make something.

I never knew it was a problem for synthetic rope to freeze lol I did a bunch of snow recoveries with mine but never had an issue 🫥

Yeah it can happen. I think it’s a very specific type of time. Rain, freezing temps, then use. If it thaws, you don’t have an issue. So it’s definitely unlucky if it happens.
