This Hawaii lava flow video was shot back in Dec. 2011. I only had my GoPro for one month.
The ocean entry had started the evening before. I arrived a few hours later and stayed through sunrise. Unfortunately while filming the camera shifted several times without me knowing so, it could have been better. That's when I was shooting into the blinding sun.
"To use this video in a commercial player, advertising, or in broadcasts, please email Viral Spiral: deals@viralspiralgroup.com"
Not looking to be critiqued. It was extremely windy that morning. 30 mph steady.
The flow was still shallow and extremely hot so, only a few minutes of standing on it was possible. Yes, my shoes melted. It was the last hike for them.
**Be sure to watch at full HD**

There are many recordings of lava flows in RU-vid. Honestly said, your recordings are the best in this domain, it's beyond just filming molten rock, it's artistic with a big deal of poetry behind it. Keep up the good work Bryan, camera manufacturers should be sponsoring you in using their products to film these natural events. Thanks for sharing!!!!!

this is so fascinating! It's a good thing we don't have volcanoes where I live, I'd be way too tempted to touch the lava or poke it with a stick or something. I mean I know it's dangerous but look at it, it really needs a poke! Thanks for these very mesmerizing lava videos ^_^

I had a very dear friend doing a shoot on Kilauea for the Discovery channel when HD had just begun. He told me he learned a valuable lesson. Never walk on hot lava with shoes (which Bobby very rarely wore) that were glued together. He lifted up his size 15 and the sole decided to stay put. Love the shots man. Bob would have too.
@lavapix
@lavapix 9 лет назад
These days most shoes are molded so, they get all soft like a marsh mellow and deform. I always carry shoegoo with me and the silver duct tape. Had plenty of shoes soles start to slide off. My shoes are disposable. When I know a pair will be ruined, I carry an extra pair. Worked with Discovery Channel production crews over the years. Thanks on my videos and thanks for watching/commenting.

The cliffs looks like faces. And very Deep art! I Think there are souls going through this lava. Could you please Get more videos of cliffs like this, from different angles. That looks like faces. I wonder how it will look in the future when the Island is set..
@lavapix
@lavapix 9 лет назад
Very observant. I've always thought many of the cooled flows draping over cliffs looked like tortured souls. Not saying they are, just they look like art. There once was a very large chunk of cooled lava that looked just like Bart Simpson. It was about the size of a car. It served as a marker for several weeks until getting covered by later flows.

lavapix I've Always seen faces in mountains, in all places! Im not a New age hippie, but i and many of my friends see it. These are more noticeable and powerful. The big Island is giving a glimpse of the duture mountains. The expressions are of are very powerful! I Truly Believe theres are forces shaping these, and it isnt forming by Chance. I believe hawaii is where the core where earth is giving birth. Its the ultimate lands on Earth, there is so much facts to see it. Big Island Mauna Loa being the largest mountain and volcano in the world just to set it. And the echosystem, Visual powerfulness, great mountains, plants and animals shows me that its the Most precious Islands on earth. ist my absolute dream to live there. @lavapix

Mauna Loa isn't showing any signs of erupting for now. When it does, there will be little chance of getting anywhere near the flows as most will be trying to get away. Mauna Loa flows move very fast and are huge. Its also a very large volcano with most areas inaccessible. Thanks for watching...

@lavapix
@lavapix 9 лет назад
BasicMonster The most common thing is tripping and falling. Outings are an avg of 15 hours not including the 5 hrs RT driving. 15-20 miles hiking. So, you do get tired, making the return hike an adventure in its own. Horrible terrain mostly. No broken bones that I know of but, some real nice deep cuts a few times. Like a shoe full of blood once after the 9 mile hike back to the car. Shin looked like I got clawed by a Tiger. Hardened lava is razor sharp like shards of glass. No biggie as I'm walking scar tissue from decades of surfing and mnt biking too. Not an adrenalin junkie but, I do like to challenge myself.

incredible clip! i wonder what happen to the lava when it reach the water
@lavapix
@lavapix 9 лет назад
Most of it turns to rock and rolls into the depths of the ocean. A lesser amount starts sticking together and starts forming new land. Unless its a substantial flow the new land gets undercut by waves and breaks apart. Often turns to sand and starts new small black sand beaches nearby. Thanks for watching...
@kansasthunderman1
@kansasthunderman1 9 лет назад
lavapix The lava can also form a "bench" or cliff which can collapse into the ocean with little warning. It's a good idea to be careful when walking on such a lava formation because the ground can suddenly go out from under your feet.
@lavapix
@lavapix 9 лет назад
kansasthunderman1 Thanks....Well aware of benches etc....In short that's what I was talking about without getting into too much detail. As for new land, never ever go on it. There's no such thing as being careful when your leaving everything to luck. Its amazing the number of people I see on new land and when I tell them of the dangers they say "I'm being careful". There's no such thing on new land. In this video I'm on a solid old sea cliff that's covered by a thin fresh flow. That old cliff wasn't going anywhere. Been doing this for 23 years and have hiked the entire area 100's of times. My motto has always been "Live to shoot another day". Its on all my image bios. Thanks for commenting.....

That was a shallow tube from a pahoehoe lava flow crusting over. The flows do this over and over as it crosses the flat land heading to the seacliff.

+Giulio Imparato Not by accident. I'm always aware of everything going on around me for 1 mile or more. +Peter Hauck Thanks...The clips standing over the flow dropping over the cliff, I could only stand for seconds at a time. Shoes start to melt. If you wait until the feet get too hot, most likely the shoes will start falling apart. When it feels like standing on marsh mellows, its time to retreat to cool ground. Usually by then any exposed skin is also getting too hot. Lots of variables. Thanks for watching...
