Ok, BUT… We need cases that are protective, not pretty. Which of those offer the best protection? Could any of those even protect against a drop on a shag carpet without the iPad Pro spilling out? And which protective cases work with the Magic Keyboard attached? Would sure love to see a video on that!
I’ve had iPads for 10 years and have never dropped one once. The same with my iPhones but I still use cases just in case.I stick with Apple’s cases and folios.
That’s why this is a very eclectic list, catering to very different needs. For those that like minimal, there is the magnetic folio from ESR or the back cover from ESR, there are two keyboard ones with full multi-touch trackpads, and Otterbox, Zugu, a few ESR models, and Twelve South (while in the BookBook) all are VERY protective. There are more robust cases like the Defender from Otterbox but I very much dislike those and think they are niche products. While working in the field, absolutely. Construction job sites, surely. But for your everyday user, they don’t need that.
I had a pretty once which lasted 2 months, yeah 1 drop and it broke. I’m Not paying 80 dollars in another case but there’s NO options for 360 cases and I’m literally craving for a kids case now!!
I own the BookBook and like it. At first I wondered why it was larger than my 2021 iPad Pro. Then I realized it can accommodate my iPad with either my Apple folio, or Magic Keyboard folio.
Any suggestions for a durable case (teacher of preschool), but still have capability to take photos AND see the screen at the same time? This is how we take documentation of my students.
Hmmm… what about “a case for your case”? Pad & Quill make their Oxford Leather iPad Pro 12.9” cases for generation 3, 4 & 5 iPads Pro. The case is designed to protect the 12.9” iPad Pro Magic Keyboard which itself holds (and protects) your 12.9” iPad Pro. It is a beautifully made (dare I say) “cover” for the Magic Keyboard. It’s a high quality portfolio made of a single piece of American Full-Grain Bridle Leather that can easily be stored in one’s briefcase or backpack. Two strips of residue-free 3M secure locking adhesive hold the Magic Keyboard in place leaving you free to remove the iPad Pro in the normal manner. I love the fact that I can use the Magic Keyboard as Apple intended whilst protecting the contents (and yes, I have unintentionally tested them and the Magic Keyboard & iPad Pro continue to work fine).
I also bought one for mine. I got the Whiskey color and it keeps everything secure. It might be heavy but I am not buying a cheap case for a $1,699 ipad.
I have the iPad Pro 12.9 M2 and this comment made me decide on the ESR Rebound Hybrid 360, I have heard nothing but amazing things about ESR and especially since it’s 360 protection and detachable cover. Only problem I have now is which color to choose lol my iPad is Space Grey so I was thinking either the black or white one 🤷♂️
Love the zugu one out of them all, I like the ESR one after the leather, they have one for the 11inch which is also magnetic and would have def liked that one over zugu if it was for the 12.9. But it's a 11" only so yeah. I'll be getting the zugu, thanks for the review!
I have always depended on military grade Otter Box or I think the equal casemate. I have difficulty keeping the durn things in my hands. My dad I made him otter box his phone as a Master Gardener.I know him and the work.
What is the best case for use in your lap but gives you the flexibility of using it in portrait mode as well as landscape? Every review is always landscape which is frustrating as there are apps that only work in portrait.
Me too for sheet music, but even typing a business letter needs to be in portrait mode. Most iPads have one kickstand in center. I wonder if marking edits with pencil will make it fall over if edits or artwork are at left or right margins?
i love ESR cases and i’m in love with the colour variety the second case you showed has…but i have the iPad Pro 12.9 2020 model so i’m really trying to find out if my iPad can still fit in the 2021 case …if you own a 2020 model please could you test it out in that case (the second one in the video) it would be really appreciated :) loved the video btw ❤️
I thought I was the only one with this problem. My 2020 12.9 inch iPad was in a case shown at 2:28 (the green one but designed for the 2020 model), but it started crumbling apart after 3 years now. I want to buy the ese case shown at 2:28 but esr state on their website that it is not compatible. If u did buy the case and it fits the 2020 model, do let me know. Thanks
I bought 4 Zugu cases, back in 2019; I love them but they are all falling apart and their color is now rubbing off everywhere. I will definitely look into the ESR.
zugu case is a poor design, when the felt side that protects the screen side touch the table surface in stand mode. what if you pick up dirt or sand, it then flips back to touch your screen when closed. the felt side of a case should only touch what you are protecting.
Hi there and thanks for the video. Can you tell me is there a waterproof/dustproof case for this iPad that still allows use of the Magic Keyboard and pencil? I bought one from eBay that made this claim but its a total lie!! I have this lovely new ipad/keyboard and pencil but I dare not take it away from my desk as my work is very dusty and usually full of airborn iron dust. Any help muchly appreciated. Thanks
@appleinsider.. love the videos! I'm still debating between the black and white magic keyboard for my space grey iPad... first I thought black would be a better match because of the aluminium strip being in the same colour but I've seen so many reviews and you can see every mark and fingerprints, etc on it... what's your impression of the white one 1) how clean does it look after using it for a while and 2) does it show marks as easily and is it easy to keep clean and 3) does it look ok with the space grey iPad?
I’m closing on the 2nd year with my Symmetry 360 elite and it’s just one of the worst case ever. The slider for the apple pencil comes off with the slightest pressure, the rubber sides are almost completely coming off and the glue that keeps the front cover on is so cheap that the cover is holding on by a hair
>>> I did not love this review, or rather a list of cases you love. The format, repeated for every loved iPad 12.9” Pro is this: here is the xyz cover by the pqr company that I simply love. It all works by magic, sorry, I think I mean magnets, as you can see. It’s hot these slots here and a cutout for the cameras. It’s. white, which I simply love, but you can probably get it in black only I didn’t check. Now here’s the plm cover, which I absolutely love, and it’s got slots for ventilation and a slot and flap thing for propping it up at various angles. Amazing. Here we’ve got the AK49 by Cartier. It’s got slots and it’s available in black, which personally is my favorite color. …. Continues like this till we get to the end of the pile. I used to edit a magazine once back in the Devonian era. If I received copy like this (which rarely happened) it went straight into the bin. Dreadful.
I have an iPad Pro 12.9 inch 2020 model and I want to buy the case shown at 2:28 in the video (the green one from esr). If someone has tried, please let me know if it fits the 2020 iPad Pro 12.9 inch. Thanks. @appleinsider
