I chose this path because I am a firm believer is advanced automation and local control.

100% agreement here LoRa signal also penetrates steel mailboxes and concrete walls.

I have it working with zigbee, when a repeater on my porch, but something lower freq would be better 👍

I have yolink motion sensor in my mailbox.

Z-wave will not work inside steel mailboxes.

Yolink devices work great for outdoor long range and in freezers. Works with alexa, hubitat and home asistant

Couldn’t agree more! LoRa products sold through Yolink is a US company…totally underrepresented. Their only achilles heal is that the Yolink hubs are cloud dependent (for now).

Here's another vote for Yolink and their LoRa devices! I have two of their outdoor motion sensors used for roadway alerts, and some outdoor contact ones for the shed door and gates. The AA battery life is amazing.

This was a decent, useful summary, but the title is entirely wrong and misleading. There are many other technologies you could use to do the project ideas you mentioned, including LoRa, 433 MHz devices, ZigBee, etc.
