Just had a hot water line break under our slab. Went six days without a shower. We boiled water everyday so we could clean up an do dishes. So don't take water or anything for that matter for granted. Always have a plan
I am so blessed that my partner is totally on board with prepping. We bought a house last year, and I'm starting to plant things, and had my grandmother teach me how to water bath can last year! My partner was into competetive shooting before we got together, so I'm going to have him teach me how to shoot and get my concealed carry license. He's going to help me till up the yard and make my dream urban homestead happen!

Six years is long enough to no longer be a “partner” (a strictly homosexual term of shame). @plates, I think this prepping, training, homesteading your getting into is probably a great way to bond and grow together. Just you insist on a ring as well as those gun range trips (also highly encouraged). I’m sure you deserve it. Everyone always has to chime in and say why’s it your business? Bla bla bla but its a healthy growing prosperous society that wants the best for their neighbors and countrymen. I mean no offense to you and I’m sure it’s been heard before but it’s still worth saying. Trust me, I am a procrastinator who needs to be nudged by society myself. What you said worked with my wife. She was never into prepping. Didnt ever give me grief. But didnt understand. Then when lockdowns took place i already had everything we would need for months. And she was thankful. Now im getting her and my eldest into it more. They both see whats happening around the world. More and more will stop laughing at us and realize we were right all along.
After watching many people speaking on prepping there seems to be no mention of importance of tools, the availability of fixing your stuff. Now I realize not everyone can be a handy man. However the guy who can build / fix is miles ahead others. The old timers who were self reliant to do everything were resources that are a thing of the past. Guys often sneer on using thread and needle. Sewing by hand is a skill and can be taught learning needlepoint. People whom can repair a ripped seam in a tent as well as clothes or make something from leather is a VALUBLE SKILL . That many made a living from in the 1800s.
Wasn't too difficult to get my wife on board... we are both early GenX with grandparents who went through the depression, and were preppers before prepping was a thing. After the remnants of Hurricane Ike blew through in '08, and our whole region was without power for a couple weeks, all I had to do was plant the seed of "what if something like that happens again, but worse?" That put the ball in her court to think about, so it wasn't being shoved on her, and she is now just as much in the mindset of "what if".
Supplementary to storing stuff: While it's good to group Like with Like to keep them together and findable, not everything is best stored this way. You might want a screwdriver and won't want to go out to the garage or workshop to get it, so keep a spare of everything you might want easy and rapid access to near where you might want to use them. For example, I keep screwdrivers in my workshop, but also a few general purpose screwdrivers inside in my spare room so I can get them easily.
Storing things that have a limited shelf life like some foods and meds: Keep them in boxes that have the month and year on the outside where you can see them, as well as a list of what's in the boxes. Then you can be systematic in what you use, and also use them before they expire. Many items suffer from summer temperatures, so if you can arrange storing in a place that won't get hot then you would be protecting your investments. All preps require a lot of storage space, and being organized needs even more space, so not everyone will be able to do these things.
If it's lighter and does the same thing, then why not check the newer items out. It's like a splitting mall that weighs 3.5 lbs VS. a 5 to 7 lb mall, what one is better? Just an FYI, the 3.5 lb mall has features that the 5 lb and 7 lb mall don't. Folding saw VS a bow saw. Lighter weight and less space being taken up. These are just 2 items. There are several more.
Good talk ! Three of my favorite points were buying cheap, buying gimmicks, and relying on gear more than our skills. It's extremely appealing to get the one tool that "does it all," but I often find that those type of tools usually have many weak points. Any point of movement is a point of failure, so the more moving parts, the more likely something is to go wrong. As far as buying cheap, I've definitely made that mistake in the past (and sometimes still take a chance), but have learned not to go cheap on the important things. A good rule of thumb: "Two is one, and one is none." Relying on gear more than your skills is pretty self-explanatory, but if there's anything you buy for a survival purpose, make sure you try it out a few times before you really need it. You'll learn real quick what you need, what you don't, and what you need to learn more about.
a few very common items I often see over looked is personal hygiene items scissors nail clipers shaving razor ect nothing worse than having to hoof it with a ingrown toe nail/hang nail or ripping a over grown finger nail while working on something...also avoid strong unnatural perfume soaps stick to natural mild scents
This makes sense! We've all smelled someone wearing strong perfume, deodorant,etc.. you would have a hard time trying to hide from people and go hunting
It's amazing how often people see these celestial phenomena that happen all the time, generally on a schedule that someone thousands of years ago figured out way before we got here, that they think is going to kill them and everyone they know. My auntie called my mom to ask her why "no one" was talking about this eclipse, ignoring the fact that she had taken her grand-babies to go get eclipse glasses at the school store the week before.
In regards to the prepping foods, I think it's important to remember dietary needs. My husband is diabetic, so the foods I have canned or dehydrated are based on our daily meals that are important for his health.
I think we should be prepared for so many things, lost of job, weather, economics, health. I enjoy watching these utubes to maybe find a hole I may have in my preps.
A little off topic but I had to fuel my pickup today. I drove 2 hours south, to get to Nevada, and put 42 gallons into the pickup. It cost me 178.00 at 4.25 a gallon but that was a while lot cheaper than the 5.79 a gallon here in NE California. My Grandpa taught me years ago that in many instances it is better to pay and cry once verses buying and replacing over and over. Not the case for everything but for many tools.
As I understand it, an altimeter reads the distance from the ground from underneath the plane, so the pilot or autopilot will always adjust the altitude whether the earth is flat or curving away.
Bought 2 Garmin sat messenger for myself & my kid whose 200 mi away in Gainesville as emergency action plan communication. Contacted Garmin and asked what their backup power was for power outage for the infrastructure for accounts and computers needed to make sure connection would work. Messenger & sat are independently powered but Without the middleman I'm thinking in my situation we just acknowledged an emergency action plan for him to move out if certain conditions arise.
Gastric issues -- make sure you have peppermint tea and fennel tea, and dates. Peppermint for uneasy gut, fennel degasses your gut and dates (&/or prunes) keep you going.
Everyone is outnumbered when you have no community, so find a community, reinforce your property, and make sure you are able to defend yourself before you hoard.
I’m curious what you mean by this. Do you mean, how do you scrounge from your possessions and Mcgyver your necessities and purify water, eat roots and make good of what you might have.

It's a good start to wait until things you normally buy come on sale, that will keep in a pantry and buy a couple extra, its one less thing you will need to buy next time, which affords you to be able to take a few extra dollars the next grocery trip for the next sale.
Think about getting a medium to large dog, and training it well. You can't just buy one "now", you'll need a year or two to bond and train with a dog. Who can hear and smell threats approaching way before you can.
You absolutely can live without a gun, until you need a gun. I've never needed a gas mask in my life but when you need one you need it more than water.
Good conversation, you bring up great points. Really the biggest issue I see is, sticking to, and really understanding the basics. Generally the rule of threes. We live these everyday without thinking about it, we have just automated most of it. Maintaining core temp, have water, have nutrition, be able to defend, be able to handle your medical, be able to navigate, and communicate. It can be as simple as you want it, or as complicated. I prefer simple, basic, light, with a level of appropriate durability. There is time tested gear that floats to the top, and basic training that supports it. Unfortunately it can difficult to navigate through all the noise out there. I appreciate you mission to bring appropriate knowledge to those who need it. Keep up the good work, and God bless you.
When you buy canned goods you get double for your money because the can and lid can be useful in many ways. I am currently using can lids tied to string to ward off squirrels and such from my mulberry tree. I have used them as targets. The cans become stoves and lanterns or drinking cups.
Survival knives are a waste of money, despite all the cool items in the handle. The rivet will come loose eventuality and become useless. I learned that the hard way a long time ago when I first got into prepping. It was better to learn that a long time ago instead of when I needed it.
Use case of one: I batoned the snot out of my $25 ‘Light my Fire’ ‘Mora’ knife on a Western U.S. National Parks tour/camping trip, and it’s still going strong, way outside it’s expected designed use.
I appreciate the point you made about prepping being a lifestyle. A LOT of influencers like to make click-baity content, talking about how the apocalypse is right around the corner and you should be terrified about the future. That's a terrible mindset to have about prepping. Not only is that bad for the prepper, it's bad for their loved ones. My family and I all prep and plan for earthquakes, because they're common. We prep and plan in case we get into a tight spot financially. We prep and plan just to have some piece of mind. To me, it's comforting to prep. It's not about panicking and stressing about stuff we can't control.
The altimeter just tells you distance to sea level. Level flight means in relations to the surface as you pass over it. Gravity will keep you in check with the surface in relation to flight controls.
I've used the MAX AXE system they put in our combat vehicles and I love that system it's a bit large and heavy but it is a great system in my opinion. and I now own three of them for my vehicle.
If you need one last cut, no matter what, you want a serrated blade. The profile also provides 40% additional sharpened blade length as well. Good video guys.❤
Most prepping talks about home based or bug-out prepping, but I have found through my own experiences, that preparing for a wide range of issues while traveling (home country and overseas), is far more likely to need to be managed and something that almost no-one tends to do. This needs a different mindset and usually it builds on the usual GHB and 3 day scenarios and preparations, and will often focus on generic matters such as major weather issues, pandemics, political unrest, travel infrastructure failure, and the like. If you want to understand more about these types of things, then comment so.
Hey Don, great video. My EDC knife is the one I carried for decades. Buck Hunter 110. I know it's old school but it's a knife I've carried and always served me well. My first Buck I broke using it as a pry bar. I learned it's limits. I also carry a Leatherman Surge or Wave + depending on where I'm going or doing. I live in hell aka California so I can't carry. Hi: I have thought about, trust. Family members are the first to laugh at one, then demanding with almost violent intensity you give them what you put aside. I guess, what you have or are doing is your Business. No one else. The pandemic sure taught me. One can take all the Personal Protection seriously , but a sloppy family member will get you injured, sick, or dead.😵 because they do not care, believe, or are aware of what they do.
Anyone wanna talk radio's the best to have is Harris or Motorola with full encryption. North GA GMRS has the largest prepper network on earth on backup generation. Satcoms are good but stupid expensive. If you can afford $7,000 radio's with p25 phase 2 aes256 encryption then your better than the government.
Any thoughts on Nutrient Survival. Not sure how easy it will be to get it in UK(postage likely to be expensive) but am tempted to try some. Massive untapped market in Uk for Preppers pantry, Nutrient Survival and co as most of us have to rely on "MREs of various sorts..US MREs easily accessible , UK, and Russian/Polish etc... But freeze dried food not so much of any comparable quality...

I'm thinking as far as water you have 2 days and on the third day you will need someone to bring you water. Your blood will be so thick you can't think straight or walk straight.
The only "advantage" of CommieStralia's archaic and dictatorial laws about firearms means that we can concentrate on other forms of survival and preparation without being distracted by spending lots on weapons. I think it also makes us more creative when it comes to defense items and methods. Obviously I am using the word advantage in its loosest sense here. I would love to be able to waste heaps of money on guns :)
We probably over prepped for the first decade we prepped. Now, we really focus on the quality of the basics. With the food, we focus on food we actually eat. We don’t store foods we don’t eat… we rotten, rotate, rotate.
I prefer my edc knife to be light, S30V steel (easy to sharpen, holds an edge well), at least 1" wide x 4" long and sharpened to 17 degrees. Sharpening is very important. That's what has always worked well for me.
In Australia, aside from beetroot and champignons, almost all cans are rip pull. I’ve had canned dog food in these cans bulging fit to explode. More people need to know this. Thank you😊
@@leesaowen9341 It's because the part that splits when you pull the ring is milled to be a thinner than the can itself, this allows tiny, tiny amounts of oxygen to seep in over time, so allowing a tiny amount of oxidation to occur, which is deterioration. Cans without the ring-pull are almost totally impervious to oxygen unless the are damaged.
Very good info. The group of like minded people I am with do not tell anyone what we have or that we are even a group. In fact we dodged a big bullet when the Michigan governor Whitmer kidnapping hoax all came about. The two brothers that were involved in that plot were friends with someone that was in our group at the time and the brothers heard about us through that person and wanted to join our group. We all had a bad feeling about them and we took a vote to not let them in It turned out that we made the correct decision. And the only person they knew that were in our group was one member and he was the one that said from the git go that those two boys could be trouble
My dad always told us to survive he showed us all he knew and we joined the BoyScouts this was back in the seventies when times people had better morals lol but we had so much fun and learned so much especially wilderness survival how to live with not much at all in your pockets and with me being me I hung in there and got my Eagle Scout with order of the arrow cluster when I was 15 and never looked back we hunted and fished and camped for the last 40 years and been getting smarter every day if you know what I mean buddy lol !
You prep for most of your adult life for family emergencies, Mother Nature wrath, government failure etc. etc. Then hurricane Harvey hits. 35 inches of rain in 24 hrs. It floods the coastal areas 17 miles inland. Our preps are gone in 24 hrs. You saved what you could but you start all over. To make things worse I’m in my mid seventies. Not easy to rebuild. Sold some precious medals to make ends meet. Moral don’t get complacent and keep a good attitude.
I challenge any flat Earther to pick up KSAT 12, using only rabbit ears, without fading, from any area beyond 200 miles from San Antonio, Texas. On a flat Earth, a TV signal would travel far beyond 200 miles. The station would easily broadcast to most of the country. I'm 150 miles away, and I need an antenna tens of feet tall... to make up for the curvature of the Earth.

But no matter how prepped you are, something will always be lacking. Potable water 5 years of food per person. Solar panels Blacksmithing Forge Propane Rudamentary Steam Engine build knowledge. Resupply ability A strong work ethic Firearm In the end, it'll mean the difference between you sitting in a home with no power, a backed up sewage system.. rainwater and unlimited food. Or Having internet, videogames, home electricity, a makeshift grocery store close by, and house water for the whole neiborhood because everyone worked as a team..and didn't retreat into your home to silently eat 25 years worth of food by yourself while death clutching your Ruger 10/22...and no other skills to help your people.
In Australia a bloke went on a massacre and killed 5 women and 1 security guard he was after women. In my rural town in the past couple of months 2 women have been murdered which is very rare in our town. And yet women still can't even carry mace or a bloody tazer. The Australian self protection is pathetic especially for women
And we had a 16 year old boy kill a preacher. It was a terrorist attack if one person had been armed in there it might not have happened. I wish we had the American constitution. I have rifles but can't use them for self defence not even in someone breaks into my house. And if the person who broke into my house broke his arm he can actually sue you lol it's happened before but I'm pretty sure that they got rid of that law
Whatever saves you money on batteries. Head lamps with 500 lumens would do , and you want to keep from attracting attention with a light that may be seen from a long distance.
Also, the sun and the moon are the exact same size in the sky. That is an EXTREMELY UNLIKELY probability based on the big bang theory saying the universe was created randomly. Especially since the moon is 250 thousand miles away but the sun is 93 million miles away. Just food for thought.
Love your channel listen every week.. but here’s my 3 star review… It has become extremely repetitive. I would love to see you guys put all this info into maybe challenges where you and Robbie put together bags, water filtration systems, bushcraft shelters, fires etc and maybe put some of these ideas and skills into videos and use different point of views into accomplishing this skills.. just saying.. I will continue watching but I’d love to see some variety in your guys wealth of knowledge
The thing I’m worried about is this coming election has no good outcome really. I’m worried that something may happen as a result. Not end of the world… or total anarchy…. But just maybe like 3 days or a week of “I better stay home”
