See, Shrina HQ was the one BIG disappointment for me. It was my favorite part of Midgar in the OG. That eeriness of walking through a building of nothing but corpses, following a trail of blood, the missing creepy mysterious body, finding the president run through with a familiar sword but no assailant. That gave me chills even in its rudimentary form. I was SO looking forward to seeing that rendered... and the game massively let me down. Now, I love the game over all. I think the direction they took it in is super interesting and my mind is blown... but I remain very disappointed over HQ. Everything from Hojo's sublab on was disappointing until we got to the Rufus fight. I actually felt like the Drum was just filler padding the runtime. It really didn't add anything.

But in FF7R, since I didn't have to worry about "use X limit break this amount of times to unlock the other one", I was mindful of when I would use them, whether it was to cause massive damage on staggers or healing wind when I didn't have any MP/ATB gauges. I've kind of got a confession about the game (spoilers for original and remake): As a newer fan to the game who never played the original, I never understood why certain moments hit so hard, like a certain scene with Aerith and Sephiroth. I've heard stories of players openly weeping at that scene, and even begging with Square Enix to change what happened, and I always thought to myself 'well that's a little far isn't it?' But, in the wake of seeing THIS game, and the wonderful cast of loveable characters (seriously, how can you not love Aerith?)... I think I understand why those moments, especially THAT moment, (you know the one) hit so hard and drew such a response from people. And I'm honestly kind of terrified about what the future may bring, as I'm not sure if I'll be able to handle the rollercoaster that is to come, and I'm awfully nervous at the prospect of having to watch a moment that was gut-wrenching enough back then. How much worse will it be now? Of course, now the future is unknown, so who knows what they might do with that. The past is the past, but the future doesn't belong to you...

@thetimekeeper955
@thetimekeeper955 4 года назад
@@gemgem24able Not necessarily. Those who've played the original game know that the future that's a "failure" isn't actually that bad, but the characters don't. Sometimes, you fail no matter how hard you try, but that doesn't mean failure leads to the worst possible outcome, or that nothing good can come from it. Society is so obsessed with succeeding at literally everything that we've forgotten the value of failure, which is why it's hard for some to accept that maybe the entire game does, in fact, have exactly the same starting and ending points as the original _even though_ you may be allowed to make more choices and change little things along the way. It's been confirmed that major points in the original will be retained, and I honestly have no idea what Aerith's death is if it isn't a major point.
@ggg21201
@ggg21201 4 года назад
@@gemgem24able It's too iconic of a scene that is integral to building Sephiroth's character as a villian, so I'd be really surprised if they eliminate it. That's a scene that everyone wants to revisit (as weird as that sounds). I think introducing and fighting whispers/destiny is more creating a way to introduce twists and changes to the story and make the audience unsure of what to expect. I would be very surprised if they completely abandon the original story. I expect some big changes like possibly having Zach involved somehow but I'm pretty sure a lot of events and places will remain pretty similar or the same. I do hope for multiple plot paths though! I'm still holding out hope Jesse somehow lives and she joins your party throughout the game. That would be amazing I love her!

As far as new additions go, my favorite is definitely the Jessie subplot in chapter 4. I absolutely love how it's being done. What feels particularly special for me is when Cloud walks with Biggs and Wedge on an empty street while talking about Jessie's history. I mean, that just feels realistic. I bonded with some of my closest friends exactly the same way. And it's not even a cutscene so you feel more immersed with it. Like some other fans, I question the choice they made regarding the final chapter of the game, but the little gems like the scene above still make me hopeful for the future.

@What.99

One thing that absolutely deserved to be on this list were the Chapter 14 Resolution scenes. Tifa's was my favorite, because she's so broken about everything that happens that she just starts crying, and eventually, Cloud comforts her. Sure, he starts squeezing her a little too tightly at one point, but it was really nice to see him soften-up and hug her. Aerith is, and always has been, my favorite girl though, and her scene is amazing, especially when she say's "but whatever happens, you can't fall in love with me", and Cloud responds by saying "do I get a say in all this?", instead of the usual "not gonna be a problem"-type of douche remarks we all know-and-love Cloud for. Aerith's scene also strengthen's my belief that, had she lived in the original game, Cloud would have fallen for her. Remake also hints that this time around, Aerith can be saved, especially because I believe Cloud saw a vision of her death from the original timeline, so he'd be prepared this time when he see's her immediately after she prayed for Holy, and would react quickly to pull her out of the path of Sephiroth's blade. When Sephiroth say's "you will have seven seconds" at the end of the game, I believe that's also a reference to Aerith's death, and that Cloud will have seven seconds to change her fate. Edit: On rewatching Aerith's scene, she also say's "even if you think you have... it won't be real." I'm starting to think that that might be a hint that all or some of Cloud's feelings towards her may be coming from Zack's... memories(?) of her. I'm not sure how to word it. Whatever carried over to Cloud from Zack, when they were imprisoned and tested on with Mako Energy by Hojo. Aerith and Zack were in a relationship prior to the events of Sephiroth burning down Nibbleheim, leading to Zack and Cloud being captured by Hojo immediately after, so it would make sense that Zack's feelings for Aerith would bleed over into Cloud's personality too, since his memories did... albeit selective memories. With the end cutscene seeming to suggest that Zack is now alive in this new timeline, the next game could have a love triangle, similar to how the original game did, except with a major difference: instead of the love triangle being between Cloud, Aerith and Tifa, it would be between Cloud, Aerith and Zack... Or Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, and Zack.

The part where the bridge falls and they have to save cloud and you can see the realization on his face that he needs them just as much as they need him. This was the moment I realized I love their decision to do an expanded midgar. Little character moments like this makes them seem more like a team and you genuinely love the characters this time. Not gonna lie Jessie's death wrecked me this time. I actually gave a shit

Unpopular opinion but I really enjoyed the sidequests in this game. They were varied, rewarding and I loved how my party members would interact with the NPCS, like when Barrett became mad at the Shinra news reporter or how Tifa panicked when she heard that Corneos henchmen were at Aeriths house. It added character to them. I especially liked how sidequests tied into the main plot in that you had to help Avalanche keep the neighbourhood safe, help people recovering after the plate had fallen and of course the fun (but hard) mini-games. I think Square found a nice balance between a well-paced, linear story telling and giving the player some freedom to explore and do side activities on their own.

I was honestly impressed by how some of the last sidequests tie together, for example a doctor needs behemoth's horn, and on another sidequest investigating underground, there's the behemoth.. :D

You guys realize that the end of this game has really awful implications for future installments right? FF7 was never about inter-dimensional nonsense and alternate timelines. It undermines the core themes of the story by putting this stuff front and center. And the final boss fights are ridiculous. Fighting a god of fate and sephiroth? Wow. What room is there for raising the stakes?
@MikeySmash13

Andres Hernandez yes....but my point, which I thought was yours too because I was agreeing with your comment lol, is that the very decisive ending doesn’t make the rest of this game bad. I loved Wall Market and the Honey Bee, but I really wish they'd included some of the Honey Bee scenes from the original. There was this crazy scene where Cloud accidentally interrupted a "Group Party" with a room full of body builders and they convinced him to take a highly suggestive bath with them that some are calling more than a bath; and another where he passes out from traumatic flashbacks and wakes up to a guy literally beating the crap out of him on a bed. I found Cloud's shyness so adorable in this game and I'm incredibly happy that they included that, but the dance scene (while squeal-worthy in cuteness max) was out of character. I would have completely believed it of Aerith, but Cloud.......dancing........with a guy who constantly flirts with him (like everyone else in this game, Sephiroth included).........and being so cooperative and sexualized while dancing......................I'm sorry, but it was just not like him. I kind of wish they'd gotten him drunk first and then did that, because that would have at least made it make sense.

Shoutouts to the music in general, but extra shoutouts to the use of dynamic music to maintain a sense of location while shifting emotional beats. Switching between exploration and combat or phase changes during boss fights are the obvious uses, but things as simple as a change in lead instrument, as when entering Corneo's mansion proper, can give any significant event an immediate, tangible weight that, from the developer's end, would have been easy to omit.

i have mixed feelings about the dancing cloud scene. the dance itself was great, but cloud has never even hinted that he was any good at dancing. i feel like he either shouldn't have been that good (maybe more awkward or slightly out of synch with andrea, copying his moves but a little later than him) or there were some clues earlier on like some random comment to a friend or flashback or something that showed he might be able to dance. like, idk "i briefly learned how to dance a few years ago for an undercover op for shinra" or "one of my friends in soldier training would drag me to dance clubs sometimes" or something.

I was left a bit concerned when I saw they decided to keep the Mr. T inspiration for Barret's voice acting. However, I felt the remake really did do Baret justice, and this despite a lot of his character development coming along a lot later in the original game. It wasn't even the big moments of vulnerability like the aftermath of the [big scenes] that really conveyed this but also the small scenes where he takes off his glasses for the first time. For me, it was those moment I really appreciated.
