Sony 24-105 f4 was considered very sharp a few years ago and still is. Sharper lenses do not unsharp older ones. One of the most efficient ''only one lens '' of my kit. And less pricey now.

And don’t be scared of f/4 lenses! If you’re shooting outdoor, you’re gonna be at f/4 or more anyway.

I’ve never thought about the whole rear opening bag thing. I love my “normal” Tenba backpack, but I will for sure have to look into that style for my next bag!

Yeh it’s not really something people discuss a lot but when you hear it you quickly realize how much sense it makes

I agree with the just in case situations. At this point I’m just running with the FX3 and the 24-105 f4 or the A74 with the 16-35 f4 if I’m shooting real estate or just running around the city

"less pockets is better"...100%. great advice. Also my next trip, all I'm taking lens wise is 20-70 and 40mm 2.5, and TBH I could probably leave the 40, but it is REALLY small, so WTH
@chrisbrockhurst
@chrisbrockhurst 9 месяцев назад
The 20-70 is such a solid travel lens

I feel a bit fortunate now, I only have a tamron 35-150 for my Sony A74. Don't need to think anymore. Then my GoPro will have to take care of my wide and super run & gun. :D

Yeh that’s a solid travel lens. Just heavy

@@chrisbrockhurst Hehe true! I forgot to mention I'm resting it on a monopod with pan/tilt head. I'm enjoying the "wizard with monopod staff feels" 😅😅😅 great videos sir! As always! Hoping you'll get to feature the Portkeys LH7P soon, I'm interested with the wireless controls for Sony but worried about the power draw. The wireless/wired controls from a DJI RS3 pro, felt too much of a power consumption so I don't use it. I also would like to keep things as light as possible, by not adding v90 batteries since my Tamron is hefty already. 😅😅😅 Hoping to hear your thoughts soon. Thanks sir!

You can pry my Nikkor 20mm 1.8 Prime from my cold dead hands. I do too much discrete street photography to not have the 20mm and the 50mm. They both weigh less than a 24-70mm 2.8 and have a bigger aperture. To me zoom lenses say “LOOK AT ME I’M A PHOTOGRAPHER!” Disagree with the camera clips too. I’ve learned that I don’t want a massive telephoto or DSLR on my backpack strap that wasn’t meant for it. I think they’re gimmicky and nothing a good bag and a strap can’t do. Besides, where do you put your camera if you need to get stuff out of your rucksack all the time? Not a fan. And it makes the camera VERY obvious to other people because it brings the camera right up to your face. Everything else said in this video was good advice though.

All in one lenses are very very good but id rsther give up an extra pair of socks rsther than leave my 50mm at home, its just too fun to shoot with

It's astounding how many times I've brought a gimbal and never once touched it while traveling!

I carry both a strap and a clip. For those just in case’s 😂. If I carried two bodies then I keep one the clip and one on the strap.

Awesome video Chris. This is a video that I needed to hear. I am totally an over packer. You dropped some fore tips. I love the Primes and bring them every time. I never use them and just carry then all day long.

Dude, not related to the video topic at all, but how is your audio so good? Is your room fully treated? And what do you do with the audio on post? Thanks for the great video!!
@chrisbrockhurst
@chrisbrockhurst 9 месяцев назад
Haha appreciate this! My room is actually super echoey and needs some serious sound panels BUT this is the power of a dynamic mic when you get close to it. Talking very close to a mic is a really easy way to make any mic sound good… But with that said, the ShureSM7B isn’t a cheap mic either.

The 70-200 f4 is my next grab as soon as I see one used at a price I’m comfortable with. Keeping the wallet close to the chest in 2024

I had the sigma trio to go with the fx30, lost the 56.4 recently lost the 56mm… and now am going one zoom lens which never leaves the camera… 😅

So I’m always overpacking, as is everyone else apparently. Anyway, taking a trip to Amsterdam, and driving to Germany. What lenses should I bring? Just take the 16-35, 24-70, and the 70-200? Forget about any primes ? As far as bodies, I’ll take the a1 and probably leave the fx3 home and take the zv-e1. Does that sound like a good plan?
@PhotoTrekr

When I was young, I would take everything. But, now I take a 24-70 and 70-200 and two camera bodies. If I take more than that, it will be because I plan to shoot something that requires a wider or longer focal length. The gear goes in a bag and the bag goes in a roller suitcase which goes on the plane with me. If it has to be gate checked, my gear is protected.

I haven’t traveled much with my camera for long trips, but I force myself into a 15L Brevite Jumper backpack for day trips. Just enough space for my FX30, mic, 11mm lens (my favorite vlog lens), 18-50mm lens (Sigma is so light!), a few extra batteries, a small table tripod, & a light (if I think I’ll be recording at night). Forcing myself into a smaller bag for day trips has really helped me shrink my gear down. I’m looking forward to getting the new PM 18L Luma … hoping it physically fits me better than the 25L Nomadic.

the color grading on this YT video is insane! 🤩 best travel zoom lens is tamron 35-150 paired w a wide prime or 16-35… 35-150 is heavy but it literally covers every portrait distance. love the content. cheers mate

Great advise, brutha! I'm SO guilty of overpacking! I just took a 5 day cross country FAMILY trip (not photo trip or work), and I took the FX3, A7iii, 3 lenses, a ton of accessories, filters, clamp mounts, chargers and what not, the Action 4 AND my Mavic 2 Pro 🤣🤣🤣. Needless to say I didn't need most of it, but "you never know" 😜😜😜. Backpack was STUPID heavy, even though I'm a pretty strong dude, and most of it got little to no use, or I had to maneuver things around constantly to find stuff. I'll still probably do it again next time 😂😂😂. That was my travel/hiking backpack. You wouldn't want to see my "regular" camera backpack. Almost 60 pounds, 3 bodies, drone, 6 lenses, and every accessory under the sun. Doesn't fit under the airplane seat, though.

Fuji X-T5, Tamron 17-70 f2.8, Fuji 70-300. The lenses take the same size filters so an ND and a CPL. Blower and cleaning cloths / wipes. 2 x spare batteries. Back at base a couple of primes and an X-E4. Job done. Plus a lightweight tripod if required.

I view my camera bag a little differently, the more gear the better and occasionally if I have space I’ll add extra personal gear to add the weight. Rucking is fabulous way to get exercise so when I’m out doing street photography or landscape I treat it as double duty, enjoying myself making videos and taking photos while getting quality exercise at the same time. Personally I hate the “ Damn I wish I had this or that piece of gear with me for this situation”… I never encounter that problem.
