Your video is amazingly well organized and provides a clear overview of the plants. I especially appreciated that you included information IN PRINT. So helpful for those of us who are challenged by spelling. I would have liked to have seen more photos of the plants and it would have been really nice to see theme at different stages of growth. I 'm going to check out your channel to see what other informative videos I can look forward to.

The sesters dwarf and blues weeping spruce are excellent choices. I have both in my yard. Love the blue color and they work well in limited space. Your knowledge and passion for plants is inspiring. Keep up the good work!

Nice video- I enjoyed it! I would recommend putting up the picture of each plant when you first start talking about it, and leave the pictures up longer. Thanks!

Thanks for clarifying the size rating are for conifers as many people aren't aware of it when planning their gardens. I have also learned that when we hear a dwarf or large conifer is referred to its growth rate instead of its size but it does make it more manageable to keep it at a certain size. Example: Miniature conifers grow 1” or less per year. Dwarf conifers grow 1”-6” per year. Intermediate conifers grow 6”-10” per year. Large conifers grow 10” inches per year.

Thanks for the information. Thats the scary part that the information is only for 10yrs. When Im a senior what will the tree look like and will I have to go back to work just to get it cut down. The house mom and I are in since 2020. We have had to take down 20 trees, only one was a healthy tree but it was in the way of my vegi garden.

I enjoyed this. I like the details, and organized way you presented it. I am always looking for more evergreen interest. We have a lot of shade, and the front of the house faces North, so I have o ly used a yew and some boxwood so far, anything you would suggest? Or maybe an idea for another grouping. 5b

I would recommend the arborvitae, Hinoki cypress, and Japanese cedar from the list in the video. These plant species are more shade tolerant and dwarf plants tend to be more shade tolerant than the straight species. Golden cultivars may fade to green if they don't get enough sun. Japanese umbrella pine, Nordmann fir, Nikko fir and the northern Japanese hemlock are extremely elegant and shade tolerant; the Japanese hemlock resists the hemlock woolly adelgid insect currently destroying eastern hemlock forests. Hardy broadleaf evergreen shrubs such as rhododendrons and mountain laurel do well in shade, while blooming in late spring. This is just my take though, but hopefully this provides a few ideas.

I live in zone 7b Upstate SC. I have a small yard but really want a Christmas tree look in my landscape. You said “Sester’s Dwarf Blue Spruce would be good and I loved the picture! When choosing a conifer do we go back to zones because of cold or if I’m in zone 7b and worried about it scorchinf ok 22:00 days 22:00
@JoshuasGarden
@JoshuasGarden 10 месяцев назад
Most confused are pretty cold tolerant, but if you are in zone 7b, it would be good to check the heat tolerance. If a conifer says it is hardy in zones 2-8, then you should be fine!

Our horstman lasted 2 years and died suddenly over the fall/winter. We're replacing it with a black dragon this weekend. Hopefully it doesn't do the same thing.

@jessemiller6290 interesting, mine has survived okay in zone 6. There could be a multitude of other issues, and to be honest, my black dragon cryptomeria died after it’s first year. But hopefully you’ll have better luck than me!

99.9% of people living in a house have A garden - not (several) gardens. They may very well have divided their garden into garden spaces.

Would be much more helpful to see more photos - videos - of these trees - different views - different ages - different gardens - and less talking head face time. Just saying ....

I actually appreciate this comment as I can see that some of these trees don’t have a great idea of the entire thing. I will certainly work on that for the next video!
