Around 34min the night market, you said it's stinking, and behind you the kanjin said: Stinking Tofu, and it's a traditional chinese food famous for smelling very stinking
Nice Video. Your whole video set is informative and entertaining. I just got back from a couple days in Taiwan. I was amazed at the ease of transportation. I landed in Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport a bit apprehensive of what I would find. The transportation was much easier, and cheaper, than getting in and out of USA airports and to the various surrounding cities.
I enjoyed watching you, your demeanor is very much like my daughter. I about fell over laughing when you said the tea taste like A$$. THAT is exactly what my daughter would say. I heard her use that exact expression, AND to describe a bad tasting tea I purchased on sale.
My daughter is a language major, French and Spanish. She wants to teach English or French as a second language. I think I have her interest drawn to Taiwan. Jenny has graduated collage and is now taking an TESOL Course.
If there's no surprises, by December of 2015 there should be a MRT that goes from the TaoYuan Airport directly to the Taipei city center. It'll be even more convenient by that time.
Just can't stop watching your videos over and over again! Love how you two experiencing different cultures in a fun way with awesome personalities!!!! You should definitely come back to explore more about Taiwan!! :))
LOL it smells bad at shilin market because you guys were standing near a stinky tofu stall! the sign right behind Eric says 臭豆腐 which means stinky tofu.
Going back watching classic Kyde & Eric I swear you two are the luckiest to be doing this together, I know in a few years you will be so successful for as long as it goes I could watch you two until your both old, and walking on cane sticks, and walking chairs. I doubt that will ever happen since traveling, and walking keeps you fit, stay relaxed live life and stay in love you two. Love you both, and what you do. I'm one year in the states myself away from Germany that's what never taking days off does to you lol.
This has to be the best travel documentary channel on youtube, maybe even the best channel on youtube. I could see you guys doing a tv show styled like bizarre foods. It would be really cool to see something like that.
It would be amazing if you guys could do some posts breaking down the cost of some of your trips. Love the videos! Thank you so much for making them. xx
Thanks for uploading Kyde and Eric. Can't wait for the rest. Your videos always put a smile on my face. Even seeing your thumbnail on my subsciption page makes me smile. Awesome job as usual.
Excellent video, as always. Thank you. I can never imagine you two settling down - I can still see Kyde and Eric still roaming around the world in their seventies. :P
Awww..I watched this every time I get homesick.. :/ thanks for making this video and hope you get to go back and make another videos of other cities in Taiwan lol
LOL. The reason that spot smelled like a "pig farm" in the Siling Night Market is b/c you're literally standing right next to a "Stinking Tofu" stand (stinky tofu is a infamous fermented tofu delicacy dish with acquired taste). Love, love, love your video from Taiwan! Keep on trekking guys.
A friend asked Eric if I ever ask him to go on a beach holiday. I never do. There's so much to do other than sit and bake in the sunshine! I can't pull myself to sit still for that long! Glad you're enjoying the videos! -Kyde
i really love the way you guys traveled and experienced in Taiwan:) i'm a Taiwanese, and i am so glad to watch this video on RU-vid. LIKE your videos!!!!!!
Wow... that hostel you stayed at right at the end is in my work neighborhood. There are several hostels in the area, but I didn't know there was one up there. Near the new police station, it looks like. I'll have to check it out.
Thank you for making my hometown so interesting and fun! You have inspired me to take my American family to visit where I was born. Your videos have also inspired me to travel. They encouraged me to be brave and spontenious. Thank you !
Very genuine video and very entertaining...well made and yet full of human touch...glad that you enjoyed every step of the journey...and welcome back again if you have a chance to....greetings from Taipei :)
I love your video. I was in Taiwan 2 years ago and I fell in love with it. It's actually my all time favorite country so far during my travels. I want to go back again.
Thanks for letting me live again my times in Taiwan and what this country meant and continues to mean to me. My best memories and happiest days are connected to Taiwan, so i'm always emotional about it. Watching your video brought all that happiness back, even if for just a short while. Thanks...
Awesome video, can't wait to watch the rest. Very informative for someone who aims to live in/visit Taiwan (and/or Japan) sometime in the future (like myself), and you guys seem like you would be a lot of fun to hang out with. ;-)
Thanks for sharing ur trip. Its awesome to see another point of view on Taipei. I grew up in both Taipei and LA so it feels like going back to my second home when I visit Taipei instead of visiting a foreign country. There are a lot of Asian Americans living in Taipei so if u guys r visiting again I would suggest joining Facebook groups on Taiwan to make the language barrier easier.
hsientsay Not a bad idea! We don't mind the language barrier sometimes though, you have a different type of connection with people you can't talk easily to and sometimes it takes you in unexpected directions. -Eric
Excellent video series. :) I have lived in Taiwan (not currently) for two, two year periods. I plan a return in early 2014. Thanks for sharing your adventures/experiences.
Just discovered this channel because i am researching the countrys i get to go to for 11 months. This helped me a lot in making the decision. Thank you i have subscribed and will continue watching your videos cause you are just so likable people :D Ps. You are always welcome to Iceland, it is a cooool place
Not sure if you did it on purpose, but when you said that it smelled bad in the night market at 34:36, there was a stinky tofu sign right behind you, LOL. No wonder it smelled bad! Nice videos, and I love how you two seem to go along so well together.
Great videos you've made! I'm live in Taiwan and I like you to give your comments straightly to what you have see and smell here,I believe that's unenvious and what you are really feel. I'm enjoy your videos so much! :))
hey guys! so happy to see this first video up! wow taipei 101 is huge! so was that taipei ice cream! looked yummy though. the food looked awesome. not a big fan of plums though. cant wait to see your next vid. you 2 take care, with love from my heart. amy
Yea, we just don't like hauling around a lot of gear either, and our videos are very spontaneously shot so having to hook up the monopod or whatever would make that a hassel. Thanks, by the way!
Back in April 2015 I was watching Aviation Videos about Hong Kong's Airport and Airliner Flights and then wanted to know more about Taiwan, the Airport and getting around Taiwan. (Never got to really know about Taiwan as much as I wanted to for the last 30 years of my life.) This was my very first Video discovering your Videos back in April 2015. I am not quick to know it all and say things right away. I just allowed the last 4 months looking at a lot more to grasp what is going on. It was eerie, because Eric looked almost like an Apartment resident I have here in Aberdeen, Washington. (I keep wondering if it was this resident (?), but now I noticed the difference. Not as tall or as old.) I been in the Navy back in 1972 to 1975. I was on the U.S.S. CORAL SEA CVA-43 Aircraft Carrier and it was Stationed in Subic Bay Philippines. I have been in the Philippines April 1973 - July 1973 and then back to the Philippines On New Years 1975 and most of the first half of 1975 there. Returned to the US in July 1975. In and out with Cruising the South China Sea and the Gulf of Tonkin dealing with the Vietnam War. I got to see Hong Kong 1st in June 1973 and Singapore 2nd in April 1975 also.I do not like Hot Weather. Because of that, I am not crazy about Hot Climate Places.
Michael Price Hi Michael, thanks for the comment! Things in Asia have probably changed radically since your time here in the 70's, I wish I could have seen some of what you saw back then. Oddly enough I briefly lived in Aberdeen for a summer with my Aunt back in 92 or 93. -Eric
My very first flight was to Japan from the UK and included 5 transits. That was back in 1988. I had a stop over in Taipei thanks to delays but never go to see the place. Thank you for showing where I stayed overnight in a very nice hotel but never got to see any of.
Thanks for prompting some memories of young me in the 1980s on my first stay outside of the US. I spent 6 months in Changhua (彰化市). I doubt you will make it there because it is not a tourist Mecca by any means, but you never know. I have very fond memories of the Changhua and the people there.
Hi! I'm going to Taiwan next month and I was just wondering how you found getting around Taiwan/Taipei and how you found ordering food? I can speak a basic level of Mandarin so although I'm really excited for the trip, its the only thing that's making me slightly nervous! Aside from that, loving your videos!
We have both visited Canada in the past, but I'd really like to return and do a trip across Canada on a motorbike someday. In the summer, of course. -Eric
