Thanks for your comments about leggings not being pants!! I get so tired of seeing women’s lady parts bc they think it’s okay to wear leggings without covering up. Please, people!! We don’t want to see your private parts!
I kind of like the floral blazer better than the other! The gold and black seemed “old lady” to me, the floral one was a bit much for me personally but I try ink it could be cute with a black or white dress!
The Sandwich Rule. My best friend and I started doing this way back in high school, but we didn't call it that. We did it as part of a point system, if you had too many or not enough points for your outfit, you added, subtracted, or changed something.
I'm not working right now & don't need nearly as many "office" clothes as in the past. When I went through my clothes to donate & thin out, I realized some had stains or residue from old deodorant. So! Now I have a system of putting clothes I will rewear to the left of a partition. When seasons change I'll wash before putting up so i don't have that happen again. I think I'm too OCD to have them hang inside out! Good idea but i don't think I could do it! 😅
Love this. I do struggle with concealing “problem areas”. Even though you don’t have the same issues I do when I dress, it’s great to get insight on what you look for when dressing in a flattering way.
I agree with you about the leggings. I much prefer to wear something bigger to cover the 'nether region' lol. Not sure I agree about that colourful jacket though...I love lots of colour and think the colours are pretty together!
I live in central Pennsylvania, people here aren't super fashionable in general. I LOVE this list of fashion mistakes, and I see many people making them, especially the last one about just because it's for sale in a store, does not mean it's in style!
Style is a personal choice. Fashion "mistakes"? According to whom ? I wear what makes me look and feel amazing. I watch these videos for information, then I DECIDE if it will /will not work in my wardrobe.
Great tips!! I’m torn on the leggings. Like, I agree kinda but I also have a long torso so when I wear long tops that cover up my butt it makes my legs look fatter and stumpier; just throws off my proportions even more and doesn’t so me any favors.
The leggings rule is golden in my book. I don't want to see anyone's lady business 😂 For work I have a habit of wearing oversized clothes to be conservative and comfortable.
I've got big feet. European size 42.5 and I love to wear big clumpy shoes. I think you should 'lean into' it. If I wear delicate dainty shoes it just looks ridiculous anyway!
Been concerned with fabrics lately supposed to be 100% cotton. But I can settle for a high cotton percentage as most today fashions are a combo of Polly cotton
YES! Leggings by themselves showing your rear end bumps (and jiggling cellulite) totally is awful looking. Looks like long underwear and they forgot to put on their pants.
Regarding your neon blazer, since you are wearing black, I feel black enhances the neon more. If you plan on keeping that blazer then try pairing it with a more white - nude shade or pale - pastel shades. Maybe that can tone it down.. My dressing style is more subtle shades or bold but single color clothes. But when going out in bright sun like a garden or a beach, I feel like wearing such pretty neon shades.
Personally like the beige sweater with the purple skirt better, and I think it applies the sandwich rule 😉 I live for these videos. I’m always like woo girl, yeah don’t wear that! 😂
I desagree with the last point , you said dont use clothes out of the style but what i understand is dont buy clothes out of the trend because in this year the trend is classy but i agree for not buy old trends bcs just make people look old-fashion . In my opinion the best is buy clothes that suit your body and your propotions
Great video. I love the white pants with the trench coat About Thread Up,OMG i hate them! I've tried like 3 different times, big orders and EVERY SINGLE PIECE needed to be tailored, some way too small (had to give away) and some way too loose, even though they were supposed to be the same size. Can't deal with them 🤬🙄
I’ve never tried thread up but the sizing is one big reason I never will because they don’t know anyone’s body shape or size to the T so that’s why I love going to the thrift stores in person and I get to try on the clothes there because I hate buying clothes without trying them on first.
@@g-yaya1305 Smart. I usually dont like buying clothes online either, but found many good things brand new for very good price,so i thought I'd try,big mistake
@@CheriJ11 im not entirely sure,I think u can but u have to pay for shipping and stocking fees or something like that. I've never tried to return anything
@@SheaWhitney with that said, I accept this challenge to wear other pants! I need such a challenge and I know it will polish up my look and be a fun way to get out of my fashion box. 😄👖
The skirt&sweater fit was my favorite. Daphne from scooby doo vibes 💜 ps Shea, i’d love to hear your thoughts on “khy” I love that neon floral blazer. It is kind of ugly but also it works to me.
Re the "clown shoes," the chunkiness is the point - that's the literal vibe. For example, I'm 5'4" and a size 0, but I wear a size 9 shoe that also needs to be on the wider side. So I'll still wear chunky shoes with my giant feet, with the right outfit, if that's the vibe I'm going for. If it's not your thing, that's fine. But for all the women out there, just wear what you want. After all, these videos are extreme for click bait purposes, so at the end of the day, just consider them as entertainment and wear what you're comfortable in.
To me leggings is primarily a thing for the teenagers. Whenever I pick up my daughter from high school over 50% of the girls walk out with them on. Including my daughter! 😂 Most of them have sweatshirts that cover their lower half. And just a few with the cropped sweaters. But they are young and can pull it off. There is absolutely no way leggings and I will be seen in public!
IF U HAVE A LARGER FOOT BUT ARE TALL AND YOUR FOOT MATCHES YOUR HEIGHT AND BODY WEIGHT U CAN STILL WEAR THE CHUNKY SHOES..IF U MAYBE ARE SHORTER AND OR PETITE WITH A LARGER SHOE SIZE THAN THE AVERAGE SIZE SHOE FOR YOUR HEIGHT AND BUILD THEN MAYBE SKIP IT.. I SAY THIS BCZ IF YOU ARE 5'9 AND WEAR A 10 YOUR SHOE SIZE WONT LOOK LARGE AT ALL ..
The button down shirt only tucked in on 1 side is the dumbest fashion statement that ever happened and I'm NEVER doing it. I think when I see it" wow that person only had time to tuck in half their shirt".
I will hang my "worn but not dirty clothes" inside out so I know it has been worn once. If there is a spot I will even just spot clean them sometimes (cuz I'd have to pretreat anyway). If your body is clean, there is no need to wash clothes after a few hours of wear. I love the Sandwich Rule! It is funny how our brains love balance.
I totally agree with you. After I’ve worn something that I’ll wear again without washing, I hang it somewhere in my bedroom overnight to air out, then I put it in the closet
Since you asked for our opinion about that blazer, my opinion is that it’s a great addition to your closet. Inside of your closet. On a hanger in the back. Facing the wall.😂
Yes 🙌 I just don’t get the blazer trend. Maybe because I wore them in the 80’s and I think they’re too overwhelming and boxy. I’m also very feminine and don’t care for the look of the lapel. But if you can rock one, go for it!!!
Can you do a video on "casual classics" that don't go out of style? Button down, trousers, blazers etc. are all examples of classics, but can you do a version of what normal people would actually wear on a daily casual basis?
7:14 love that you acknowledge that it's a non-issue for you but show some amazing photos of what you're trying to demonstrate . it really helps the bigger ladies looking for tips
The floral blazer is a no go, Shea. You're better than that. LOL! Said with love. It just seems very dated. The rest of the tips seemed very reasonable. Thanks for another great video!
I can't believe cold shoulder tops are still around. When they came in style I didn't buy one even though they were everywhere and hard to avoid bc I was sure they would only be 1 season. Those things are still going strong in many communities! (And I never bought 1 no matter how long the trend kept going. )
I love the concealing weight mistake. My mother wore a coat (jacket) every single time she left the house. We live in Fl where its 85 degrees in Dec 🙄. I told her that it draws more attention to her weight. I always say "leggings are not pants" lol. Very few people can get away with wearing them as pants. I like them as long as the top is longer.
Why aren't they pants? I realize those awful self ones are not, but typical running leggings seem like pants to me. I wear them with cropped things all the time. I dont get what's wrong with Bermuda shorts either. Maybe not those ugly ones.
I wear leggings as pants even to work , thick good quality bootcut ones because I need to be comfortable! They are pants, as long as the material is cotton and not shiny and they are thick good material
Bermuda shorts are never out of style ❤ I have a gorgeous pair of red Ralph Lauren Bermuda shorts that pair gorgeous with white sneakers and basically any top I have a pair of black Bermuda shorts that i love to wear with a vintage short sleeve blouse, pearls ands black flats.
Thread up is OK for buying for selling. It totally sucks I’ve sent things that I’ve paid $200 for it in perfect condition and I get $1.35 back… It’s not great.
Can’t tell you how many times I see leggings worn as pants and having everything totally visible. It doesn’t matter if you’re younger or have had a few decades of birthdays - it’s a “No”.
This video was really helpful, i’ve been feeling so unstylish and it really affects your self esteem when you don’t feel confident in what you’re wearing
This is definitely the place to visit when you feel like you’re in a rut. She’s my been go-to for updates and outfit ideas for years now. And she just has an overall great personality and consideration for her viewers that I have always appreciated ♥️
I don't overwash my clothing, especially fine knits or jeans!! I am not sweaty, so no issues with odors, etc. Hanging clothes outside in the breeze freshens garments up as well!
Also, I think the floral has potential. I share the “ugly” feeling, but I like how you have all black underneath, but I think if you pulled up the sleeves, put your hair up and paired it with like big green earrings it could be cute.
Totally agree on #5!! It makes me sad when I see someone trying to completely hide their figure just because of weight. There are definitely ways to look good no matter what size you are! And dressing well can positively affect both the way you feel about yourself, as well as how people respond to you. Everyone deserves to feel good in their clothes! As a size 12, I’m so glad you brought up the clown feet because I don’t even like the typical UGGS. 😂
Everything is spot on…except…for shorter women the “sandwich” rule is not my choice. I try to match my shoes to my pants. They don’t have to be perfect but, if the pants are dark, I wear dark shoes and if the pants are light I wear light shoes. Try not to cut off my legs prematurely 😊
Thank you for the clever PSA today Shea! You are so right about getting in a rut by selecting jeans every day. I recently left my job as a teleworker and ever since I have more time and not in auto pilot I have upped my game by enjoying my wardrobe again! Wearing makeup, choosing a dress and slacks has elevated my style so much! I’m not saving my clothes for a special day. My spouse has even noticed and is loving the attention to looking great again.
The “leggings are not pants” rule needs to be made a PSA. It just makes me so uncomfortable to see people casually exposed like that. Not to mention that many leggings turn thin and see-through at some point. It’s really tmi 😳.
I want to ask you something shea , is it good to put your bags on the shelf without putting them in their dust bags?! I want to do that but I’m afraid of leather damage which can happen in this case.
No, to the floral blazer. Florals, most of them, especially with the bigger floral patterns look old ladyish. Great video, and really good advice and style tips.
Floral blazer you want to try? No. Half patterned blazer and half solid blazer? Unless you're wearing a contrasting color below, it's also a no. You were wearing it over black on black and the black half of the blazer disappeared and it looked on first glance like you were missing half your blazer. The tweed blazer? I would have worn a belt on the outside to give the blazer some shape and kept the sleeves down. Agree with the chunky shoes. Your feet have to be petite to pull off that look. Like Doc Martens. On women, it's cute on small feet. On larger feet, you might as well be wearing army boots. Wrong coat? Sometimes it's just too damned cold to worry about what your coat looks like. If you're running from your home to a car/taxi then you pull up in front of your destination, you can get away with fashion coats over practical coats. If you're going to be outside for any length of time walking or waiting or touring, pick the warm coat. It's hard to enjoy yourself if you're freezing. Bermuda shorts never go out of style. Some women have cellulite all the way almost to the knee. Nothing else will look flattering.
The sandwich rule is the best. There should be a sign at the grocery store “No women with leggings and short shirts” we don’t want to see you butt …. Just saying 😊
I wouldn’t keep the floral blazer. I think a bold print like that would look better as a blouse or even skirt with a flattering cut. I think the oversized fit, shoulder pads, and the print is too much. I don’t think you’ll get enough use from it before you feel it looks dated.
LOL - yes, as someone with big (but narrow) feet I TOTALLY agree with the clown shoes. I hated the doc marten popularity when I was in high school because I couldn't wear them. They looked ridiculous on my big feet, lol.
I don’t dry my clothes or my husband’s in the dryer. Our clothes look pristine because I don’t use the dryer. Even some of our underwear don’t go in the dryer. But I’m a firm believer of washing most of our clothes after we wear them unless it’s a pair of jeans or a sweater. Then we can wear a second time unless we wore all day.
So many beauty and fashion influencers think the cool thing to wear in videos are leggings as pants. Leggings with a short top with everything hanging out. No. Leggings are NOT pants. Thanks Shea for saying it.
"Overly concealing weight." Thank you, Shea! I have way too many GFs who do this all the time. One just lost 30 pounds and she still wear baggy clothes. She is a size 8 or 10! Even when I was heavier I tried really hard to steeer clear of that one!
I agree, but what I actually see even more often is the opposite. If you're larger, wearing a size that's too small (or waaay too small) makes you not only look bigger, but uncomfortable and unkempt besides. It leaves people wondering things like if you have a mirror or whether they didn't have the outfit in your size. NOBODY wants to look at fabric stretched tightly over rolls or so small that your top won't meet your pants and it's not a crop top.
