I have run into Patrick a few times at the rink when he's been there for one of his sons. I said hi each time and he said hi back and asked me how i was doin. We don't know eachother at all, but he sure made me feel like we did. I've seen the way he interacts with his kids, strangers at the rink, etc.... Im a police officer and I am old school and have very strong values. I am (was) very conscious on who my son idolized (he's 19 now). Well, Patrick Marleau was who my son idolized and I have to say, I have ZERO problems with that!
Awesome. I'm tearing up just watching this and thinking about being there at the Arena this Saturday witnessing this special moment. I'm gonna cry! Really well deserved and I hope next is the hall of fame. Sucks he didn't get a cup, but it doesn't make him any less of a player or Legend!
Fantastic interview. Patrick is a classy guy, seems to be a great father too. His wife seems Fantastic as well. Remember watching some intense shark vs oilers playoff series, Marleau, Thorton and Couture were always so dominant.
I was thrilled when my Leafs got him for a short time. He helped Matthews and Marner a lot and was a great role model for the boys. So happy for him. A man with class.
It was very smart on the part of Leafs management to bring Marleau into the fold when they had the chance. You couldn’t pick a better guy to help young players learn how to be a good Pro from. Great player and an even greater person.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I was lucky enough to be at the game he scored goal 500 in Vancouver, and saw him play a bunch when I still lived in SJ and worked at the Tank. What a fuckin beaut.
true story: was walking down blue jay way in toronto pushing my (the time 16 month old) son in his stroller and as i was walking a man approached me,calling out excuse me sir! sir! and was returning a toy that he had seen fall out of a pouch on said stroller. well it just so happens to be Patrick Marleau and not only did he return it, he took a few minutes chatting me up while doing so, engaging in my son with playful "baby talk" like "hey buddy" and making funny faces and whatnot while talking to me. actually patrick wanted to know where he could find some good Chinese food and wanted suggestions lol i didnt get struck or whatever as im not really that type but i welcomed him to toronto and wished him all the best. guy was real classy and very intelligent. we talked for a good 5 minutes and that was that. wont forget it but the way he interacted with me but especially my little guy made me a huge fan and gained huge respect from me. i was a "visibly" young dad as i was like 20 patrick treated me with so much respect. all the best Patty!
Words every hockey parent (Dads) need to here, the ride home should not be about hockey....... unless the kid brings it up and then less is more. I did it, it sucked for both of us and as soon as i stopped, everything got way better. It became fun again, as should always be. Met Patrick a couple of times with my kid, a class act for certain.
