AyeshaRadheyaSound that's already almost happened with the 2016 m5 MacBook and already did with the m7 just not in graphics. The 2017 beats the MacBook air completely.
The looks as well. I like how it's thinner and lighter, as well as the colours. They're more colourful and makes it look better than the traditional aluminum colour.
I'm getting really frustrated with Apple. All we have to do now when buying Apple products is compromise and wait. If the Macbook Air had a retina display it would be a no brainer, but we are forced to buy the under powered Macbook, or buy the over weight Macbook Pro.
To be honest, Apple should make the butterfly keyboard on every MacBook, but they should increase travel key. So same looks as the normal version, but more accurate typing.
100% agree with you. the keyboard feels great, but everyone complains about key travel. problem solved. I dont know it can be changed on the macbook because its so thin though.
Tech Theorist Or they could install haptic feedback underneath the individual keys to imitate the feeling, as if you were typing on a regular keyboard. I know it's a far reach, but it's an idea. :)
So the air is $400ish dollars less and about 15% faster. All you really sacrifice is size and screen resolution. Sounds like they should of made an actual MACBOOK and keep the Air line.
Here you can see the comparison between a design made from some who cared (Steve Jobs's administration and the MacBook Air) and a new design of a laptop just made to be expensive lacking basics (the new MacBook and Tim Cook's administration). If this new MB would have been made under Steve a lot people would have been sent home! And what about the Magsafe, that's important I saved my old White MB a lot of times from accidental pulling, the new MB lost that too...
Thanks so much for helping me make my decision as to whether or not purchase the new MacBook. I love my Air and I can't justify purchasing the new one.
Why did Apple shrink the mac book from 13 inch to 12 inch I don't like the direction apple is going all these gimmicks and pointless stuff. Why do they have to make all their products thin and colorful lacking ports, unable to upgrade apple seems more concerned on what their devices look like not the quality and performance sad but true. They seem more concerned on fashion and money then they do with their customers.
Brian C because the 12 inch apple aluminum powerbook was the best laptop they ever made? millions of people loved the 12 inch powerbook, so we are happy to see it reborn
selecting with force touch is not a problem because my macbook pro 2015 (which has force touch) does not allow you to go to force touch while you are selecting, so you don't actually force click while you are selecting
That my situation right now which one to pick, great review on the laptop comparison definitely can see why the Air is better and leaning more towards it myself.
Nice review and comparison! Would the new Mac be able to run a few modern mac games like WoW, Sims, TF2, LOTRO etc at a fairly alright fps and still be used for video editing and music editing and stuff like that?
Wow this test is just excellent!! Well done, the unique problem I can find is that you succeed making me doubt about buying the 12 inches Mac book 😄. Anyway keep doing a great job and well done again :-)
thank you for this video. I am in the market for a new MacBook as the harddrive in my current one is scratched. Thank you for mentioning about the usb on the 12 inch macbook. I have several items that use the older version of usb and I don't want to get an adaptor to use it on my new macbook. Looks like a MacBook Air is in my near future computer. Current one is a MacBook from late 2007. It is time for upgrading. Thank you again for this comparison video.
maaaaaaaaaan !!! I really want the MacBook 12" so baaaaadly, but whenever i look again on its fast, i feel awful !!!!! the Air wins, but the want is the 12" :(
The new macbook has literally the worst keyboard I've ever used on a laptop, or otherwise. The trackpad is no better, they both feel like shit and they're both extremely unresponsive and annoying to use. I was shocked that Apple actually had the audacity to push this computer out to consumers. The only positive thing about the new macbook is the screen, but that cannot even begin to make up for it's other short comings.
Carson Clark What? 😂 I type 76wpm on the MacBook Retina and the track pad is not at all unresponsive. 1 finger to open something. 2 fingers to right click. 3 fingers to show all the pages you have open. What's so complicated?
I think the new MacBook is Apple's new entry level laptop and the price will eventually reflect that. The Air is Apple's best selling laptop so it won't be going anywhere. Apple could have updated the Air with Retina this year but that may have meant lower battery life. That will most likely change next year with Intel's Skylake processor. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised to see a MacBook Air with Retina, thunderbolt 3, and USB-c next year. Although there may be a slight price jump for this updated Air.
jabareo the macbook being the entry level yet its $400 more with less performance. Ok it has a better screen, more ram, and twice the storage which is great... but in every other category the MBA is better and for less money.
woah what is apple doing? ripping all of us off? you're paying for the retina and new colors? that's it. so apple got rid of the "macbook" just to resurrect it with this piece of death? ha!
I like the way the new Macbook 12 inch looks as well as the color on the display but hate how it's less powerful than the Air D: I ended up buying an Air instead but if the 12' was more powerful I probably would have bought that.
You've probably made a choice by now lol but I would get the air if I was in your situation. It's cheaper, faster, and all your getting better with the 12" is just the Retina display. Video editing will be better on air too
@@versese8393 I did buy it, but I sold it pretty fast. I wouldn't personally, you can't get the keyboard replaced if a key gets stuck anymore, price for performance is pretty bad too - You're better off going with a windows alternative (even if it's bigger) or an M1 Air if you really want a mac
@@amanighozli9540 The screen on the 2015 12" will be dramatically better, but the CPU will be way weaker and the keyboard is prone to fail. The 2017 macbook air is a pretty weak machine, has a pretty bad display, but has a keyboard that is unlikely to fail. (And more ports) Personally, id go with the 2017 MacBook Air. Just make sure to get a model with 8 gigs of ram, you don't want to get stuck with a 4gb model
Hi, Great Review, really enjoyed it. One thing Missing is the Video Editing side of things, I am a realtor and I would love a ultra portable computer, 90% of the time I will only need to use the web surfing Capabilities but there is the 10 % where I want to make you tube video etc. Does the Macbook 12 have enough hourse power for these task? Thanks, Hassan
Do you think they will stop making the Macbook airs and just throw everything into the macbooks instead? I really like the macbook airs and I would be pretty sad if they just stopped upgrading them and put everything towards the new crappier macbooks instead.
I would still get the new macbook I just watch videos and surf the net on portable devices, and for that you do not need a lot of CPU power or things connected to it. The only thing I don't like in the macbook vs the air is the price.
Thats pretty sad that the new macbook is that much slower in read/write since it has twice the storage. more storage= better performance. the new macbook is simply not good. why pay more for less? the only thing the new macbook has going for it is its look and the screen.
so ..what to buy ? macbook air or the new macbook ? it's just the retina that bothers me..would it make a difference ? I mean like a big difference ? or I buy the non-retina macbook air ?
Hi i want to know if you gonna to buy which of them you gonna choose it ? I want to know which of them it good for me I want for my university laptop and I want to know which of them is good ? Could you please help me?
Air is very thin and not much expensive. It also has a better battery and better performance. If you want something smaller you can go to a Macbook Air 11".
12" is definitely not for me. I love my 13.3 macbook air as of now. And I am hoping apple would come up with a 14" model that I would love to switch over to.
Programming is no problem on them. I'm a computer science student at Purdue University. I have a 2014 MacBook Air and I have no problems with coding. A lot of the time, your homework will be graded on a linux based platform (if it isn't auto-graded). Just boot camp if you need, it's very easy to do and very useful. Good luck in University. Tip: manage your time and don't underestimate projects.
I want a MacBook and I'm between a Certified Refurbished Late 2013 MacBook Pro retina 13 inch with the i5, 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD or a Brand new 2015 MacBook Air 13 inch with the i5, 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD. My usage will be pretty low, just sync my iPhone, keep some pics, vids and my music, use Safari, watch RU-vid videos, and sometimes play the Sims 3 to build houses (lol). Which one should I get? Considering that both are the same price.
***** If your a student, then get the student discount on the pro, it will put id down to the same price of the air and with the 2015 edition you get more battery life, new trackpad and 8gb of ram
One of the worst things about the MacBook 12 is the CPU it is completely useless, I own one and trust me, this alone makes it not worth buying. If they released it with apple silicon it would probably be brilliant.
+VerikS2K went to bestbuy heart set on the macbook 12in yesterday and came out one hour later with the macbook air in hand. I think I made the right choice. The big decision maker was really the screen size, i know 12 inches is 12 inches but this was my first time actually having a look at the actual size of the new macbook and it really was smaller than I expected but I'm happy with my mba :)
I'm welling to purchase either of them with specs that I have want to buy them with, so if you can please give me your thoughts on if the Macbook 12 will begetter with the specs I have chosen. The usage that I want to use them for is: Photoshop, movies & music, studying, video editing. Thanks in advance 2016 Macbook 12: 1.3GHz dual-core Intel Core m7, Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz 8GB 1866MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM 512GB PCIe-based onboard flash storage Intel HD Graphics 515 2016 MacAir: 2.2GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz Intel HD Graphics 6000 8GB 1600MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM 512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage if you may please help :)
MA10Station I personally love the 2016 MacBook retina but the stats in most cases aren't as great. I'm glad the got rid of the glowing logo because it had to many faults to it, it would only get worse if the laptop got thinner. Also, the 2016 model is shorter by 1 inch in width, and 2 inches in height, so it fits easily into any backpack or sleeve.
Loved your review!! :) I don't care about the new keyboard of the Macbook, however, I would love the air to come with the Retina display which I don't think we will see a retina display ever coming to the air. I do see the new touchpad coming to the air is about it.
That's always what they have done, stop pretending to know what you're talking about. The original iMac, iMac G4, iBook G3, G4 cube, and various others were all about looks which is why they sold.... It's what made apple the most valuable company in the world. And what saved them from bankruptcy. Looks is a major reason why people buy, and apple knows that. I personally appreciate it, since all you see are shitty plastic laptops these days, virtually no competition for Apple. I could really care less about numbers on paper, and the new MacBook 12 inch performs better than my 2012 MacBook Pro with an i5 so I'm happy.
bro that's exactly what Steve jobs did his entire career with apple and stuff. remember the nextcube? that was just a pretty box when it was released and it was also very underpowered when compared to the competition at that time.
