Wow. The bin analogy: The best exampleI've ever heared..the "big package" of low calorie food is really causing digestion issues, in recovery and also in bulking phases in bodybuilding.. so the last ones are useing this simple "trick" to eat white rice instead of beans/potatoes/oats, protein powder instead of cottage cheese/quark, honey and even sugar instead of whole fruits, bananas instead of strawberrys/blueberrys/watermelon, more oil and nutbutter on top of everything instead of more volume in food, and so on..😅 Because the whole foods only are causing a lot of them stomach pain. Maybe a few man or women can eat a ton of this foods, but it´s a more comportable option to eat high calorie foods. I know it´s a weird example but I knowed this trick before my recovery from bodybuilding, so I can use it easy peasy to eat a lot of calories without eating so much volume and without the feeling that my stomack is popping..! Love your explanations tabitha... love your work! ❤️🥰

So true about compulsive movement, I didn't stop, I ended up bigger even though restricting and extremely tired and stuck in quasi recovery for two years. I'm only brave enough now to actually listen and take her advice to her and not just listen (does that make sense?) Listen to her and don't waste time.

I usually eat what my body craves and my body craves rice beans veggies and fruit but I always make sure to have some kind of sweet treat afterwards because that’s what it craves as well. I honestly and truly do not crave processed foods only something sweet after I eat and you best believe I satisfy that crazy with some chocolate chip cookies or chocolate bar and I’m good!

To the person asking about gastroparesis, if after a prolonged period of time your symptoms don't subside, please see a doctor if you're not already. Unfortunately gastroparesis doesn't always go away once nutritionally rehabilitated. Highly recommend not eating a lot of fiber (fruits and vegetables especially) and eating more processed foods like Tabitha said. More calories in a smaller amount of food is key. Carbs have been my best friend during this time lol

What would you classify as "nutrient dense" food? I am in recovery and am not fully listening to my mental and physical hunger but am still eating a lot. I have been having biscuits, muffins, chocolates as snacks between meals quite often and now my mom says I need to eat more nutritional foods and that I won't recover and my body wont get strong and better if I only eat "treats". So she sees "nutrient dense" foods as spinach, eggs, kale etc.... I am so anxious now because I know I am just going to obsess about nutrition like I did when I was deep in my ED. I am not craving kale or quinoa. But now I feel I can only eat healthy, nutritious foods and I am going to overthink every meal, just like in my ED. I am not going to let myself eat anything I actually like or want. I know I can't recover like this but I already hate how much weight and fat I have gained and I am so scared.

thank you for talking about this but was wondering if you can talk more about why one has such bad issues with the gut to the point a runner cant seem to make it 1 mile before having to stop for a issue? What types of foods help this or prevent it? thanks in advance

What medical training do you have to make these recommendations?

She has a degree in nutrition, and is a qualified personal trainer and yoga instructor. All of which require you to know about physiological functioning of the body. In fact the degree in nutrition is FAR more indepth than the 1 module a regular doctor at med school would receive. I would assume also, she had to conduct a lot of additional research in order to write her books. The comments section shows 2 or 3 different people saying “thank you, I have recovered because of you”. Some of these people go so far as to say they’ve been through several treatment centres etc. Her advice clearly works for some people. In previous videos she has cautioned against refeeding syndrome (one would assume a person would be in hospital if they were at risk of this anyway.)

hi i have a question i am currently doing the high calorie recovery to try to regain my metabolism and yesterday i missed my evening snack. And then, my alarm failed to go off this morning and so i had a period of time where i didn't eat for 11hours. Does this mean I have to start again because my body isn't trusting me again? Or does it mean I am still on the same amount of progress?

I love the thing about low cal foods being useless for someone with gastroparesis/stomach issues. I've been coming to that conclusion. I had coffee the other day and ended up sick. 90 cals for the risk of being sick is NOT worth it. Gonna have Ensure next time. If you read this far, keep trying random things if you have stomach issues. I can eat chocolate sometimes, crackers most of the time, low cream Camembert most of the time... i would never have thought Camembert would be good if i hadn't randomly tried the end of someone's wheel and then not got sick.

Since allowing myself to eat what I want in the quantities I want I find myself eating 2-4 pints of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream every night. I make sure to eat plenty during the day so don’t worry about me compensating or restricting during the day. I feel disgusting about eating SO. MUCH. ICE CREAM. yet I crave it every damn night again and again. Is this normal? Or am I just boredom eating or eating this because it’s a new habit? I don’t know anybody who ever ate this much ice cream for multiple days and weeks in a row
@paulachimano1389
@paulachimano1389 4 года назад
I did! I'm that person who ate A LOT of ice cream for weeks every single day. And not only ice cream, as I would also eat chocolates and all... don't worry, just eat without guilt and one day you will realise that you are ok and ice cream is really good, AND you can have it all the time, so it will calm down... but give yourself some more time. its ok 💕 i'm in recovery for 3 months by now and even this day I actualy have a lot of cravings. specially for ice cream :)

Tabitha I think maybe it takes more time to rewire if you have had Ed for li ger I'm in recovery after 36 years I'm 52 so deffo got the t shirt and my brain is so new to this it takes constant rewiring if you have had disorder shorter time surely it is a bit easier maybe just a thought

Hi Tabitha, I have dealt w restrictive eating since 13 when it was pushed on me by a parent. Dieted myself, my whole life, into a bigger body. I have been in recovery now a solid 2.5 yrs and actually, though that, my body has come down actually, somewhat. I have a few questions. Sorry this is so long. 1) Would you recommend exercise for someone in my situation? Is exercise okay/adviseable? I still get fears of weight gain and thoughts of restriction that crop up but I focus on eating plenty and just listening to my body. I have never, that I know of, ever had an issue w compulsive movement. 2) I would love it if you would speak to the ideas behind some of the common restrictive diets that supposedly have their roots in 'healing' and alleviating pain. I do have wonderful and effective means of medicine which I love, and happen to be 'natural methods' that I use (namely, homeopathy), however my brain keeps going to that old 'raw vegan' mantra of 'healing your body' through diet. And I do think it's triggered by fear. It is very scary when I actually think about such extreme restriction and see the effects of it in some people, but there still are some of these neural pathways still in my mind. I deal with inflammation and also abdominal puffiness. I also have some conditions, like Lyme's and diabetes, so these make me fearful and make me want to restrict a lot of times, even though I fight it. I went to a nutritionist a couple of times many years ago and he promoted raw veganism and also 'eating clean.' For some reason it really stuck with me and I notice my mind uses it as a backup solution when I get scared that I'm not getting any better. Any thoughts on how our eating can get tangled up with fear of disease and pain? And if any of that fear should be listened to and if we should restrict food to manage disease/pain? 3) Also, what do you recommend for children who may be in bigger bodies? I imagine it's the same as adults, but it becomes a little bit more complicated when they want cookies for dinner and ice cream every night and chips for breakfast. I don't really restrict for my children, but nutritionally, isn't it smart to tell them first have fruit/veg, then you can have a treat? Because, otherwise I find there is sort of no end to the ice cream, the chips, etc and virtually zero interest in other, healthier foods. But for the record, my kids are teenagers. Thanks so much ~~

Hi Tabitha, how are you? I hope that very good. I wanted to tell you that lately I have felt identified with many of the things you mention in your videos (catastrophizing absolutely everything, compulsive movements, mental hunger), and it has helped me a lot. Not only for it but to accept them and begin to respect me more. My "problem" is that many times I am afraid to respect this mental hunger because in my home, with my family, there are already "established times" for the four meals. And that is what usually causes me a lot of anxiety, because I am afraid of being very full for that time and not being able to make that meal, or also for other things that I have to do besides eating. I've tried but they won't let me out of it, so sometimes I don't know how to handle it. Sometimes I want to eat, sometimes I don't. But the mental hunger I think always persists. And that doesn't allow me to focus on other things. I explained them openly, without shame, about all this I had read. And it's okay for me to eat but they don't understand everything behind it, I think they perceive that I have an obsession. So I don't understand: my mom tells me and eat a caramel or have a little juice; It is the method that I have used the previous 7 years to ignore my mental hunger (and now I understand it), and to be able to eat "comfortably" and with physical hunger the four main meals (subject to the ways of my family). Sometimes I feel strong to listen to myself the same regardless of the hours; other times I get sick and I don't know what to do. That comment from my mom distressed me; It is as if she told me to avoid eating and at the same time she lives telling me that I do not eat enough, considering that with my physical state I have an indication of being hospitalized ... Then I get confused. I know I only have to think for myself ... but I don't know how to handle "all these things". Any advice?
