This song carries so many memories for me. I was about 11, and my then older brother used to play this in his room all the time - was never allow in there, though:/; I've long lost my brother, but this track always stayed in my mind; did not really know the name, but after a few years of typing in random words over the net and here in youtube, finally I found the track by chance. I'm over the moooooon, your wouldn't believe:) Love this tune since I was a skinny boy; thanks to my big bro.
+Gabriel Gervais I know the feeling...sometimes you just cant remember the name or title or the artist and it is brutal....but then that moment when you do find what you have been searching for is sure to be a glorious one!
Last week it cost £34 to fill my car with petrol, today it cost £54 to fill my tank. Sitting here, then I remembered this song….. it’s going to get harder peeps
THOSE COVID BLUES HAVE JUST BEEN BLOWN AWAY BY THIS DANCEHALL BUBBLER. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.😀 WHERE ARE MY OLD SKOOL APPRECIATERS AT. ? ? 2021 STAY SAFE PEOPLE. 😷 BLESS.
OMG - its true!!! the music that was used in the Taffy Lewis bar scene from Bladerunner...!!! that ten seconds of music has been in my mind since 1982 and never knew til now where, or what, it was!! Thank you for putting it on here!
This tune is beyond wondrous. Love the lyrics: Time so tough, rat a cut bottle. Reggae music at its most prophetic! How 600 people could down vote this is mind boggling. Maybe they should stick to Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber.
I found this when I bought the Pressure Souns album Don't call us immigrants. I specially like this song and the title song by Tabby Cat Kelly. And the one by Misty: Six one penny!!
This was a tune I listened to back in the day and "boy "... reminds me of the good times of the late 70's and early 80's, and original blues parties. Give thanks.

Tried to thank you on your youtube channel but didn't see any contact or comment info. This is an awesome compilation of songs and will keep me busy all day pasting them into the search bar to listen to them myself; big ups for sharing this.
First time hearing this was on John Peel 🍌 when he played reggae tracks he always played what rodigan never plays. Discovered a lot of artist from his late nite BBC show.
Back in the days when radio was radio and you could hear all sorts of music by twiddling the dial. Now most music lacks a tune or great musicianship and now we have ended up with Dermot O'Dreary's 'Acoustic Lounge' and other garbage because personality seems more important than the music to the morons who are now in charge.
Great record...the piano really makes it. It sounds very much like the piano in Familyman arrangements like 'Dub Feelings' by The Wailers or 'It won't come Easy' by Man X.
Lion Youth’s “Rat a Cut Bottle” and Black Uhuru’s “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” share a similar reggae vibe...I can feel it... ....Well...'Rat A Cut Bottle' was released in 19781 and 'Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner' in 1981....
Eu sinto meu senhor em mim...Ele chegar como fogo e luz incandescente....É libertará meu povo...da mão do inimigo....Que Jah rastafári abençoe a terra.
Bad choon. My favourite dub tune of all time. Special request at last night's dance, to hear your favourite plate dropped on 12" at the dance. Mind blowing. Big thanks to Bev-i-roots.Gonna keep me skanking for ages.

Jah a marshal, him no partial. Always loved that line. Perfect on it's own, or you can have it with a nice cup of tea and a biscuit. Enjoyed reading these lyrics. Ta
it is strange how I loved this song sooo much when I was younger....wat so strange is my bro died of lung failure in 2000.....aged 34.....still a great song
Situation critical!! When rats start cutting bottle, people either become geniuses or they devolve into criminality and prostitution. 1978 was perhaps the golden year for roots reggae. All releases by virtually all roots artists were top, top drawer. Even Lion Youth was not left out of the roots gem jamboree.
The meaning is:... overprotectiveness or repression of (spiritual) knowledge is to no avail ... just as a rat is (normally) never able to cut trough a bottle, regardless of how much time it has....(poor ppl keep the rice, beans and sugar in bottles to protect from rats)
@@alimantado373 I thought it was about how times were hard in Jamaica/UK, and they were so bad that even a rat has to use a broken bottle to defend himself
I am truly amazed never thought there could be another who sounds like the Cool Rula , Gregory I. if this isnt Gregory recording under another name or a son of Gregory who is this never heard of Lion Youth before great tune , definately a student of the Rula
@El Negro Azteca Well actually there are no more Gregory Issac's we only get one, however it's always been true there are many unknown talents always will be,,in all genres of music and art expression also many unknown talents behind many of the known famous
