this has taken me ages to get round to uploading. So apologies.
Here I have my own Honda Hornet 750 after riding it for the
Past 12 months. Some highs , some lows , the great the good and
The damn right ugly frustration of owning this particular model.
I’m talking personally about this bike and I’m not reading off a script
A manufacturer or another influencer has been given.
When the bike is being ridden in spirited way it’s great. Fast enough, fun, responsive and flickable
When you are riding it normally wanting to ease the throttle on from being off the gas the throttle response is
Somewhat early 2000’s of a job. Back then software engineers were trying to write in software to mimic the
Mechanical feel of a cable and carburettor
The majority of bikes from manufacturers have cracked this and produce silky smooth throttle actuation
But Honda engineers have used a throwback of talent in their engineering to write the software for this model.
Probably conceived after an all nighter sniffing cherry blossom and holding each others hand
And much like the British Post office Honda refuse to contemplate consumers of their product have a point and are right in highlighting there is such a problem.
Rant over.
In this video we nearly get taken out by a typical driver not looking at what’s approaching, come across a Shetland pony out for a stroll and I smash the unsmashable drone into a tree. And not caught on camera the carnage of searching and finding the said drone, fitting new props, but then forgetting id left my GoPro On a tripod at the side of the road still recording me setting off, a total of 35 minutes that camera and tripod was sat there until I realised my stupidity. Came back and it was still there. Another reason why it’s great where we live in the north, people are friendly and don’t rob each other………as much..
www.fuelexhaus...
If you’re interested in the end can for your Honda or any make of bike call Fuel exhausts in Kendal and tell them I sent you. That’s not because I get anything for it, it’s because I’ve bought and continue to buy their products. They sound great and they look good too.
I’ve put my small baffle back in the exhaust but either in or out they sound fantastic.

The Missenden Flyer reviewed this bike too. He found it a bit snatchy too. If you drop the engine braking down to minimum, in the user mode, he thinks that helps. I own the same bike, and wondered what the hell am I doing wrong, at slower speeds! I've been riding for 36 years, and owned dozens of bikes. I do like the Hornet 750 but I almost feel like a novice, riding it , as it's so unpredictable, at slower speeds. I appreciate your video, and that you have verified the fault I know is there. Honda won't do anything about it unfortunately. Cheers

Frustrating isn’t it. Would be an amazing bike if it was sorted. Like I’ve said there isn’t one person that doesn’t say it has a snatchy throttle.

Regarding the throttle what works for me is to ride one gear up, the bike has so much torque to so little weight that it just pulls no matter what so being one gear above won't make a difference, it significantly improved my confidence in the twisties since the snatchy throttle almost caused me some serious trouble while leaning. To each his own, this bike has some serious pull and I'm happy with it, cheers.
@captainpugwashrides3799

I agree with the one gear up. It makes a difference when slow manoeuvring. But it shouldn’t be like that. It should be solvable by Honda.

I had this exact same bike. It is a lovely bike in so many ways and I loved the power, sound, handling, comfort, price and looks (to a point). I had real issues with the throttle and the hunting at slower speeds. It caught me out a few times and made me pensive and nervous and so I rode the bike badly. I gave it about 2000 miles and admitted defeat and changed the bike. I ABSOLUTELY concur with your views. This bike is great if you always want to make progress but, sadly, deeply flawed when wanting to be a bit more relaxed in your riding. Some said "ride it in rain mode": tamed it a bit but I don't like having to ride around a problem, the bike should be spot on out of the box.

I must have more padding. I do like the bike. But it really shows how crap that throttle is when you have other bikes to immediately compare it to. This week for instance I enjoyed it because I haven’t had my ktm out. For me though this bike is just a commuting tool.
@timparker9235
@timparker9235 Месяц назад
for the snatchy throttle, I had the same on my Z650RS (though the dealer told me I was imagining things) and after research found I had two options if I didn't want to go down the remap route, namely a booster plug or G2 throttle tamer. for those who don't know, the booster plug at £100+ fools the ECU into thinking its many degrees colder outside temperature than it actually is and the ECU therefore adds in 6% more fuel - apparently this works. I however went for the G2 throttle tamer, easy to install and you can see the difference in the throttle assembly whereby the route for the cable is much more linear and smooth giving you smoother throttle at 0-5% - worked for me immediately and at £82 worth the money. Why manufacturers cant just fit this as standard is beyond me - its just a different shaped cable route on the throttle tube, that's it.

Great video, great review (sorry for your poor drone). I'm getting a Hornet tomorrow hopefully. Can't decide between the white and yellow. Here in Turkey the grey one is not offered. And the black is too black. I'll probably put some handlebar risers since I've been riding enduros till now. I like the straight sitting position. And of course some soft cases, heated grips, perhaps a quickshifter. We'll see. Take care.
@captainpugwashrides3799
@captainpugwashrides3799 Месяц назад
Definitely recommend the heated grips that Honda do. Brilliant add on. Quick shifter is great too. If I’d have a choice again I’d get the yellow. Lovely colour choice. I also bought a set of engine bars to protect the bike if I had a spill. Looks great. Just a bit of a pig to fit. There’s a lot of after market products now for the hornet. A company called pyramid plastics in the uk do some good products for the bike.

Would you're aftermarket exhaust accentuate the twitchiness of the throttle just a little more? Not trying to justify the twitch, but I can't see the exhaust helping either and even when exhaust cans can get away with no tuning, with the ECU picking up any mild change, I think most bikes would still benefit from a rolling road tune/map when mods like that are made. Would probably be able to programme out some twitchiness.

I’ve had the Suzuki 8s for just over a year, not as powerful as the Honda but no snatchy throttle or hunting which makes riding predictable and fun. I did test ride the hornet but the 8s fit me better as I’m 6ft and the hornet felt just a bit small for me. Great bike though.

Yeah the hornet is on the small size probably for the assumption that everyone is 5’2” and living in Asia. Cheap though. Compared to the rivals. Suzuki Yamaha triumph and ktm. Would I recommend it ? If budget is a real issue yes. If it’s not there are others out there that may suit you better. I m sitting on the fence here because I made my choice. If Honda would alter an alternative to the throttle it would definitely be better for that particular model

You will love the bike bill. Despite me having a whinge about the throttle the bike is really good. Very good acceleration for its size. And yes you do get used to it in a way. It can still catch you out so you need to finesse the rotation of the throttle carefully. But if you’re in a hurry it’s great. Glad you enjoyed the video.

I purchased the Honda cb750 Hornet before I passed my test and was a bit worried because I couldn’t test ride it, end up passing my tests on mine and it is a great little bike and can’t fault it so when I was watching this RU-vid video and the guy is saying about a problem with it and Honda now about it I was scratching my head thinking there’s a problem with reliability or something and then we got to “his problem “ I realised the problem was the guy doing the video he should of bought a royal Enfield 😂😂😂

Have the same issue but got used to it now as it’s my only bike. I do remember trying to avoid potholes in town while moving very slowly and it kept surging and directing me into the bloody potholes instead of away from them! Since then I have become used to it but still agree that it’s an issue I wouldn’t have expected from Honda. Blaming emission controls is easy but how come the GSX8S doesn’t have the same issue?

I know what you mean. And if you test the transalp same engine and it’s perfectly fine. I spoke to my local Honda dealer the other week about it. Because they don’t ride them to the extent an owner does he sees no issues. Funny how it’s reported by just about everyone though.

People blame 'emission controls' for everything as they know many people can't see the facts properly due to anger. Moto Bob always says the new version of any bike is 'heavier due to emissions controls'... even though many times he has said that the new model has amazingly shed 2-3kg (he doesn't check and knows people love this BS). Same with BHP figures on many bikes. Manufactruers and influencers use 'emission controls' like the rag tops and politicians use race... an easy stick to beat people with even if totally unjustified, lazy, incompetent and just not true.

It sounds like it needs a throttle map upgrade to cure the snatching,sadly I don’t think Honda will address this issue until an updated bike comes out in a couple of years time. Only option would be to find a performance bike shop that might be able to re-flash the current fuel mapping, but obviously this will cost something. As you said earlier Captain in your video the Transalp clearly has a softer mapping for some light off-road action. Hope to see you testing the cb1000 hornet when it appears.

Emissions business, isnt it? I tried the CB650F when it came out in 2014 and that was buttery smooth. Different bike/engine, I know. However, the Duc Scrambler that cane out the year after the CB was very snatchy. Dealers usuàlly wont entertain agreeing that these are faults-by-design.
@captainpugwashrides3799
@captainpugwashrides3799 2 месяца назад
You might have a point there. But I was informed there are flaps that open and shut to help emissions . However I understood that flaps work when cold to aid the emissions. If this is correct the issue still is a mystery. I personally believe it’s a software issue and the percentage of throttle applied isn’t linear, it’s all or nothing. Instead of 10% 12 % 14% it’s 10% 20% 30%.

It's not emmisions business... all new bikes (and other vehicles) have to comply with the same regs (not just to save the environment but to one day reduce cancer numbers etc - particle pollution crosses any barrier within the human body and causes chronic inflamation at best, healthcare is bloomin expensive) and yet some bikes (vehicles) drive so much better (smoother, faster, quieter... whatever) than others. Some manufacturers can do it some can't. Some manage it with one 750cc engine in their range but not another. Blaming emissions controlas shows a complete lack of not just knowledge but imagination and provides manufacturers an easy out.
@user-yi3ox8wy4k
@user-yi3ox8wy4k День назад
@@thebrowns5337 I agree, you've certainly demonstrated having both a complete lack of knowledge and any wisdom around the subject. Perhaps, there's a future for you in Brussels, as a VW liason officer, or such like? As for cancer and environmental influences...let's see the robust studies linking motocycles to that. Better worry more about lifestyle and food and pharma. That's not to dismiss all emmissions goals, however most of EURO[X] stuff is busywork for technocrats and market protection or market decimation (there's a curve).

Firstly thank you for the honest review. I'm 29yo and I got this as my first bike. About the throttle, many call it snatchy and twitchy, I personally love that explosion, it just wants to go. May I ask if you have noticed any wobble or twitchiness when going 160+ kph? I feel like the bike just loses a lot of front downforce and the front tyre starts wobbling a little. Like an annoying oscillation
@captainpugwashrides3799
@captainpugwashrides3799 2 месяца назад
No I’ve not noticed any wobble but I only go to 110 kph on uk roads. If I was on a private road doing 160 + I suggest it’s not the best aerodynamic bike around and your neck muscles would be somewhat punished. You’re right about the throttle being explosive but that’s great when you want to exploit it but tedious when you want a relaxed control. It becomes much more apparent if you have other bikes that don’t do that. It stands out more. I do love the bike just has a minor flaw that needs addressing. Thanks for the feedback

@janmegatron yeah. I think you will struggle with the compaction of this bike being that you’re so tall. It seems that Honda and some other manufacturers make their bikes small because their big market are Asia and not so much Europe. Try the bike for size before committing and also try other too. The MT 09 or 07 are a good competitor. The Suzuki also has some rave reviews too. But certainly take one out or at least sit on the bike. If you have a larger budget then the ktm 990 duke is a cool bike. There are deals to be had on that range despite them not advertising it. To answer your question I’m 5’10” and it’s cramped for me. But it’s surprisingly comfortable on long journeys. Hope this helps
