Ever notice how many TV shows from the 70s have opening sequences with dramatic shots of people dramatically talking on the phone, dramatically? Now that I pointed it out, you won't be able to stop seeing it.

Thanks for sharing these. I got the Ellery Queen theme a split second before the title ran. I lived in Ireland so we only saw some of these. However the Night Gallery theme used to scare the bejesus out of me long before the show actually started.

When Lee Majors left to do the one hour version of The Six Million Dollar Man, he was replaced on the last season of Owen Marshall by David Soul, later famous for Starsky and Hutch.

Three great, creepy ones in a row! "The Sixth Sense" (this is the 2nd Season opener, 1973); "Ghost Story" by William Castle (which morphed into "Circle of Fear" in the middle of the season, with new theme and credits which were definitely inferior); and finally "Night Gallery".
@VonWenk
@VonWenk 4 года назад
I agree with you about Circle of Fear, although the first episode, "Death's Head," with Janet Leigh, and the episode where Susan Oliver is trapped in the hospital by people who received transplants from her murdered husband left an impression on me.

"NIGHT GALLERY" I remember sneaking down stairs to watch it at 11:30 at night. The intro music scared me all the time. I was bummed that they only showed the half hour version where i lived. Bigger scare was my mother catching me watching it.

I remember Night Gallery, was on when I was in high school. My dad allowed me to stay up to watch it, as long as my homework was done and I was not doing bad in any subject. No problem, and that show was creepy, and we enjoyed it.

How could you call Baa Baa Black Sheep a less than popular show? That show had a big following as it came out right after Midway and MacArthur with Gregory Peck were in the theaters. Robert Conrad made this show extremely popular for 2 seasons

I watched many of those as a teen.Crime shows then were mild, no blood or gore.A man could be shot 5 times and his shirt would be clean.I liked Ellery Queen, Snoop Sisters, and Bronk.Ghost Story and Night Gallery were good.Dad loved Black Sheep Squadron.I don't recall those that took place in Europe, like 'Asignment Vienna'.

Surely 'Owen Marshall, Counselor at Law' has to be the least inspiring set of opening credits in TV history!!!! It's just three suited middle aged men walking out of an office building!! Hysterical. "Watch them do their tax returns, in REAL TIME"!!!

Owen Marshall? These are more dramas. I never watched dramas. Well, yea, Spiderman. Nick Hammond always looked bored. David White (Larry Tate) from Bewitched was J Jonah Jameson in the pilot. Never watched the Sixth Sense, only heard about it recently. Never heard of that Ghost Story. NIGHT GALLERY, I REMEMBER! One scary opening. Tales of the Unexpected, I remember. It was hard to find that show. And I don't think Bill Bixby is credited for his episode. TVland aired it recently.
@case139
@case139 12 лет назад
@DurhamGooner I'd say Owen Marshall was better in the first two seasons, when the opening theme was longer and had just Arthur Hill and Lee Majors. There were other scenes included in it. I think you'd like that better than the third season clip included in this set.

Never heard of "Strange Report", and only heard of "Assignment: Vienna"; never saw it but knew it existed. "Black Sheep Squadron" was originally titled "Baa Baa Black Sheep" - I seem to remember Peter Frampton (!) guesting in one episode. "Bronk" wasn't bad. One you don't have here is "The Men" (had Isaac Hayes doing the theme song).

Regarding Bronk, it sure wasn't the seasoned actors that skewed it. I remember my dad, who was a NYC Transit cop at the time, relating how ironic it was that many in the police department sided with internal affairs and took a dim view of Bronk's concept of an independent "Mayor's cop" who had free license to dig into the alleged misdoings and corruption of anyone in the force. In a pale way Dan Baker in Eishied (sp?) on NBC coyly tried to ape this concept too.
@2up3rm4n1
@2up3rm4n1 12 лет назад
Don't remember Bronk at all. Vaguely recall Ellery Queen. I think in reruns tho. I think those were like the Mystery shows where McCloud and Columbo came from. Strange Report? Assignment Vienna? Were these made FOR the American audience? Black Sheep Squadron has been aired on History channel in at least the past decade. I remember Baa Baa Black Sheep. Heard of The Virginian. Never watched it.
@abacuschannel1
@abacuschannel1 12 лет назад
Black Sheep Squadron was not quite as big a flop as some think. Neither was Owen Marshall. They both stuck around long enough to be remembered. Spider-Man, on the other hand, tried to cash in on the superhero trend of the day, but definitely failed, and is best forgotten.

I'll also chime in about 70s Spider Man ... even when I was a kid watching this when it originally aired, I knew it sucked. And it wasn't because of the cheesy webs or obvious wire work when Spidey jumps ... it was because I got the feeling they apparently tried to save as much money as possible by having as little Spider Man as they could get away with. You tuned in for a superhero show. What you got was the same recycled Watergate-inspired plots that you saw on every other hour long crime show. Dull, dull ... dull. At least the Japanese Spider Man show had action, even if it had nothing much to do with Spider Man and was also recycled Japanese kids show dreck.

Ellery Queen was popular, just up against "6 million dollar man." Bad programming. Strange Report ran its course, The star did not want to continue. Brittans are not use to a 25 episode a season run. Black Sheep had a sizable run. Hardly "less-than anything. I'll you Spiderman & Ghost Story. Sixth Sense was a summer replacement series & Night Gallery? Popular still. "Tales of the Unexpected" was a "Quinn Martin" production? He had great themes, & an announcer talking over them.
@tristanblackwolf7927
@tristanblackwolf7927 11 лет назад
The theme from "The Sixth Sense" wasn't the one it started with; I think they changed it when they flipped time slots. The original theme was more melodic and introduced "Dr. Michael Rhodes" to us. Someone truncated several episodes and flipped them into "Night Gallery."
