Thanks for making it! Definitely one of the highlights for this video for me! Also forgot to mention it in the vid but it’s awesome that there’s QR codes to find the artists too! Found a lot of really cool instagram accounts to follow now! :D
I was only able to join one of your two homebrew livestreams, so opening with Wing Warriors was so cool! Definitely going to go find that one! Always love to see more homebrew reviews!
Great video. I actually really appreciate hearing about stuff with a more critical (but kind) perspective. A lot of homebrew commentary is overly positive imo, so I appretiate some reviews that point out the flaws.
love these videos! There is so much exciting work in the gb homebrew scene lately that it can be hard to keep track. I really appreciate the rundown. Reeeeeally trying to justify the cost for the machine, it looks awesome. Wing warriors supposed to arrive today.
Hope you all enjoyed the video! Check out my Discord server to join my amazing community and chat between these videos! discord.gg/Ms6dpsYNuz Seems like the info for The Machine didn't render, but it is compatible with both GBC and DMG! Also, if you'd like to see the streams I did for the games, check them out here on Twitch, and give me a follow if you want to be notified when I go live in the future! Planning to do streams before these homebrew videos each time from now on! - www.twitch.tv/collections/r70H55qODBckMA I also made a twitter thread with info on all the developers if you want to give them a follow! - twitter.com/retrobreaknick/status/1563172010771247106?s=21&t=1Jg1TVrE9D1MtpGHwTjUEw
Always interesting to see what has been found in the homebrew scene. Reviewing the physical quality of the releases is fun. (Also helpful for those considering production).
Very cool to see all these physical releases for sure. I feel thats pretty bad though on that Kickstarter game that they've basically sold a rushed and broken game. Bad workmanship!
I was developing my own gb game a while ago but abandoned it due to lack of time. I have a book publishing company and that keeps me busy. Now that I mention this, I've always wanted to do a hardcover artwork and strategy guide for GB games. But it is difficult to get permission from developers. 😅
You can't get more English than complaining that a French game for a Japanese system doesn't have an English language option. Jokes aside, great video and great to see the homebrew scene is thriving!
Wow 12 homebrews in one video, you’re spoiling us! That’s my worry about Kickstarter for physical releases. The Rom might get updated to fix the bugs but your physical won’t be.
@@bundjohn yes.. I feel like I can’t miss out now that I’ve made it my mission to cover them all on the channel! >.< don’t want to let any of the developers down either
Does Wing Warriors Lite just mean it’s cart only? The lite doesn’t mean it’s unfinished or anything, right? I’m gonna order it asap. Shmups are probably my most go to genre, and this game looks great!
@@RetroBreak I picked it up, along with a physical copy of the machine! Thanks for the response. Love your vids! You’ve turned me on to a new home brew community I didn’t know about so thank you so much!
GB studio has really opened the floodgates, it’s good to see some devs still using traditional coding too though, and I know there’s some great GBDK and Assembly games in the works too!
Nope! From the developer: "Well, Retroid is not intended to be anything new. ... The challenge here was not a creative but a technical one: Trying to find out whether a Game Boy game that meets the standards of commercially released titles from the late 1980s or early 1990s could be developed from scratch by a single person - a person, I might emphasize, who has nothing to do with computers professionally and had neither coding experience nor any idea of the Game Boy’s inner workings at the beginning." Not only do I think the developer succeeded, it was this game that encouraged me to start developing my own Game Boy game. :)
@@drcouzelis good luck in your endeavor. I stand by my opinion that something so basic should’ve never had a physical release though. Was making my own pong/arkanoid clones with only the most surface level understanding of programming as a teen. [If ball is traveling at this angle and collides with this object then change ball travel angle to x.] That’s about 80% of the code you need for that game.
@@RetroBreak the entire scene …. They “say” it’s for home brew but we all know it’s really for piracy. Kinda like how they lie in politics and claim “we aren’t taking your guns” but they are. Just like most things in the world
I don’t understand where you’re coming from. Homebrew is developers creating new games for old systems, nothing to do with piracy at all? They aren’t existing games.
