America's been pioneering stealth since the 70s it took us a lot of lessons to figure it out so other countries just to show up and say we have stealth would make me laugh they're going to have a lot of problems the US ran up against in the early 80s-90s

So many of the new fighters look very much like the F22. I wonder how the engineers who came up with the F22 form way back in the late 80s feel about seeing their work echoed in airframes that will be used probably for 6-7 decades after it was first conceived.

The fact the US has been testing 6th gen aircraft while other countries have yet to is crazy. By the time other nations get their first 6th gen aircraft delivered/built the US wouldve started 7th gen testing…

Alex, You asked for ideas for future shows. I have always wondered why in the heck jet fighters cost tens of thousands of dollars per hour to operate. I think it would be interesting for you to do a very detailed breakdown of the specific line items that go into those estimates . maybe a bit nerdy for some, but I would watch.

I had a U2 fly to the east of me this morning around 6am heading north to land at Beale AFB. Luckily, I'm on the flight path to land when coming in from the south. Last summer there was a U2 flying overhead in a low flight path for the Air Show at the former Mather AFB. I was able to get a nice photo of it on my cell phone as it was so low.

I know these are almost all renderings, but the Tempest looks like a real beauty! She's gorgeous! And the RR engines are truly beasts!!!

Considering India said they could see china's "stealth fighter" on land and plane radar, and China is actively trying to buy Russian planes, I'd say they're "cheng du i see you" isn't very stealthy

Seeing how India said their SU-30MKIs had no trouble tracking the J-20s, I wouldn't call it a stealth fighter.

Yet again you make such an entertaining yet very informative video that’s also easy to grasp whether you’re an expert on this topic or a newbie. I’ve yet to watch a single video of his that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy! I’d really like to see a video that goes more in depth into some of those other fighter programs. Especially the KF-21!

FCAS may have a carrier variant, to replace the Rafale M, but we'll have to see. GCAP / Tempest so far reports are no carrier variant. Not sure what the UK will do for 6th Gen carrier capable jets in the mid 2030s to 2040s - perhaps just stick with 5th Gen / F35 plus loyal wingmen or convert QE class carrier at midlife refit to full flat top with EMALS and buy American F/A-XX if they're available for export & the deck is long enough, or some other option. Sweden, has the Gripen 4.5 gen. The cost of developing 6th gen (and family of systems) is substantial, either you're a super power or you have multiple high GDP economy's working together, so would seem either they join in with GCAP to maintain indigenous skill base or ... who knows. I had forgotten South Korea still flew the F-4 and F-5.

All future aircraft are intended to be airborne comms / recon nodes. All of them. Whether US-built, China-built, Russia-built, it doesn't matter. Land-based on sea / carrier-based, you name it. Manned, optionally-manned, fully AI ... all of them. The F-35 happens to be an airborne comms / recon node which is quite stealthy and can shoot back at you. The current incarnation of the U-2 is a not-so-stealthy comms / recon node, which we are flying today; it started out as a recon aircraft but evolved with digital tech and increasingly-advanced comms. The B-21 will be a stealthy one which can drop 20k lb of high explosive on you. Any aircraft which isn't one of these is going to be target practice for weapons systems which are. All current and future aircraft have a "digital twin," which allows you to test tweaks / alterations in simulation, before you get to the point of "cutting metal." Heck, even buildings have digital twins, anymore. You know the Falcon 9 and Starship have digital twins; that's why SpaceX was willing to build, and crash, Starship prototypes; they were trying promising new designs and collecting very large amounts of telemetry with which to evolve the digital twin. Their digital twin evolution on the Falcon 9 is why they now have boosters which have flown over a dozen times. More flights → more telemetry → more evolution on the digital twin → improved design and small, incremental tweaks to the physical construction → improved vehicles. Many of the stealth aircraft you talk about in this video have passed "design reviews," meaning the digital twin has evolved to a degree and people feel they are ready to start cutting metal. Exactly where the money will come from for that ... I suspect that's a large part of what's wrong with the Su-57; they've got a digital twin, of some kind, and they've cut some metal but they're still evolving the design (see the above reference to Starship) and they're having a hard time finding the funds to cut some more metal. That said, I love the amount of info you can cram into < 20 minutes. Keep up the good work. I know the F-16 is still evolving; still wishing they could come up with a larger, more-capacious, faster, possibly stealthier version of it. Not sure how they can clean up that gaping maw of an intake, though. Spent multiple years as a 45254B / 2A353B (F-16 tactical aircraft maintenance specialist) so I have a soft spot for that bird.

If Sweden is smart, they'll give Saab all the headroom and funding needed to develop their own stealth platform, be it 5th or 6th generation. With how badass the Viggen was (only plane to regularly intercept the SR-71 Blackbird) and under-rated the Gripen is today, I have no doubt they could come up with something that would leave the European/Japanese effort in the dust, let alone the Russian and Chinese ones. (Though the Mighty Dragon looks impressive for a rip-off.)

Great disclaimer upfront. I'd point out that you don't need to have the best technology, just enough to defeat/dazzle your enemies. So enemy selection is important.

Despite how much hate the F-35 got initially saying how it couldn’t dogfight, it’s pretty telling how every other country developing a stealth fighter is basically making a derivative of the F-35.

Whenever I see people say stealth is dead, my first response is, "Then why is everyone trying to develop it?" The only fighter that's been developed recently that doesn't focus on stealth is the F-15EX because it's been developed in the country with two operational stealth fighters. When you got two operational stealth fighters, sometimes what you need is a missile truck that just happens to be built upon the backbone of a fighter with a k/d ratio of 104-0. Honestly in a future war, the stealth fighters may end up just being spotters while the F-15EX gets to have all the fun.

Swede here: in my understanding, we (Sweden) were/are only involved in the Tempest program for exchanging technology. We have our own 6th gen fighter program called Flygsystem 2020. I don't think it's clear yet if we will be going forward with it or scrap it and go for the Tempest instead. I'm not up-to-date on any details so this might have changed now though.

A lot of faux-35s out there... I think the key to US superiority will stem from more resilient stealth material, that ceramic coating you mentioned previously, as well as our ability to target stealth aircraft and engage.

The checkmate looks like the challenger to the F-35.

For the Tempest RR already has the engines at MOD1 status (MOD2 will be even more powerful) . Some were put in a Typhoon for test purposes. Apparently that resulted in a fair bit of swearing from the test pilot as the aircraft acellerated down the runway even faster than expected. I dread to think what the Tempest will be like as it will be near 10% lighter and have nearly as much thrust at military as the Typhoon on full afterburner. IE 17.500 pounds dry compared to 20,000 full afterburner. My best guess is 32,000 pounds air combat weight and 54 000 pounds at full thrust. That's a power to weight of near 1.7 to 1. I think flap retraction and such like will have to be automatic because otherwise the pilot will run out of hands.

So what happens when everyone flies a 'stealth' fighter? No more long-range missile exchanges. Back to WVR combat?

Its crazy how far ahead the US military is compared to the rest of the world. F22 took its first flight in 97, and it still remains the greatest air superiority fighter on earth. Russia came out with the su57 in 2019 and only has 7 and most arent even combat ready. The rest of the world is catching up to the Raptor, only to be left in the dust by the new 6th gen. Just insane

I'm waiting to see development of _High Observable Drone_ technology, which could be used for diversionary tactics. Small, light, super cheap, and long range, without much or any attack capability, they should be designed to simulate much larger aircraft to radar arrays. Send them in from the west, while the truly stealth aircraft attack from the north.

I have an f35,f22,euro fighter and mig 35 they are very good remote control aircraft.

As far as the Korean design I think that it fills a hole that many current stealth 5th gen and 6the gen designs have. low payload capability. This is one of the reasons that the USAF is buying F15EX's to really put the hurt on the enemy once the stealth platforms have cleared, hopefully, a path. The Korean plane as a clean sheet design may be able to do it better.

I think there are essentially timeless, (archetypal) designs that once the platform is "developed" just need "resto-molding". Like B-52, Wart Hog, Howitzers, combat rifles. Genus in the generation "five" combat aircraft all the way to the "ground" and space". That integration with the new Air Force stealth "Raider" (drone) with independent continuous plasma multiple drone's is the game changer

Tempest started as a 5th gen design I think. Best thing I think that could happen though is the French, German and Spanish designs come over to the Global Fighter and design a family of planes for all N.A.T.O members and special allies

apparently a Sukhoi 'employee' did an AMA online, he didn't disclose any sensitive information but he did say that the checkmate development is going all according to plan and seems really promising, he added to expect it's flight trial sometime this spring.

I know we all say "stealth isn't really invisible, it's just harder to see or has to be closer to a radar to be seen" and I get that but the B21 absorbs 85-90% of radar directed at it, depending on frequency, which imo is getting pretty close to actual invisibility.
