No, that was the norm for all of history. The consequence was men having more wives. This imbalance is good for a stable society. The more it shifts to 50/50 the harder it gets for every man to get a woman and that leads to angry man and violence. This leads to revolution/war, men die and the healthy imbalance is restored again.
A good looking sane women always have a man. The women always want a man from a smaller pool of good looking men with money. There can be 5 to 10 women after the same man. There is no need for the men to marry

There has been an issue of career oriented women in China that have false evaluations of themselves replying to polls that there are "no men". What they mean is "there are no rich men that are interested in me". Even in the cities there are matchmakers, and they will attempt to arrange dates based on a clients criteria. Many of these matchmakers are complaining that even after 5 years, when its clear they are being unrealistic, these women will not adjust their standards. I am not Chinese myself, but I knew two gentlemen who stated it easier to marry a women who has a desire for children or even an arranged marriage. They were not rich, but not poor.
