in Gelsenkirchen they actually have different subspecies in each exhibit, one has Eurasian brown bears, the other has Kamtchatkan brown bears from Far East Russia, which i guess is kinda almost Alaska? and also the hybrid bear in Osnabrück is in a mixed habitat with red foxes (the silver form)!
that picnic table is such a cool idea! I hope it's doing a lot to reduce fear of the bears. where I live, the fear contributes to people killing them for no reason (when they could just avoid them)
ZOOM has two different enclosures, as already said in other comments. This part of the Zoo is themed as Alasca, they formaly had in the first enclosure Kodiak bears (only one male) together with normal brown bear (2005/2006: 2 female; 2006-2015: 1 female). After the male ("Buffy") died in 2014, the female was alone, but as she was already 22 years old, they decided to give her away. "Brenda" moved to Wuppertal, but only for 2 years, because the two bears in Wuppertal don't like each other. Brenda was shown at day time, because she was more nice with the visitors and "Siddy" (moved 2016 from Berlin Zoo) was at night on the enclosure. Now only "Siddy" is left in Wuppertal. ZOOM now has 3 female european brown bear here, they moved from Kolmarden (Sweden) and named "Alma", "Frieda" and "Smilla" and the second enclosure are the two huge male Kamtchatkan brown bears "Youri" and "Kolja".....I read way two much information about this part in ZOOM, it's my favorit part there.
If youre curious about the states. We dont have generic, himalayan brown bears, or grolar bears. We have mostly grizzlies with some Alaskans and at least one Kodiak. We do not mix bears with other species and havent since the 40s or 50s. Europes exhibit sizes are larger but we have a lot of good ones such as Minnesota, Memphis, Cheyenne, Columbus, and many more. We also have a lot of above average ones like the Bronx and St. Louis. The only bad grizzly exhibit Ive seen is probably Indianapolis. As for breeding, we also dont breed brown bears the only north american bears we breed are polar bears
That polar-grizzly hybrid is actually something that's becoming more common among wild bears here in Canada. In the province of Manitoba, which borders with arctic and sub-arctic regions, polar bears have begun moving further south to forage for food which puts them in conflict with grizzlies. Sometimes they hybridize to create these polar-grizzlies but usually they just stay out of each other's way. Always interesting to see how so many European zoos manage their animals. Bears are actually pretty common in a lot of zoos I've been too (Canadian, mind you) and many of them rescue orphaned bears and other North American wildlife. Great video as always
Zoom had an amazing cold area that river was something amazing. If they'd add more animals to kill the empty space and had bigger enclosures for their big cats. It would have been one of the best zoo's I've been too. The only thing I don't like of the bear habitat is the lack of plants.
@@rexyjp1237 yeah if I remember right American moose Wich are very very rare in europe. Moose in general are rare, the only park in the Netherlands that has them is natuurpark Lelystad but those are European moose. I visit it every month for years and I've seen them about 30 times in a few hundred visits.
Zoom has two brown bear subspecies. The first yard houses the common European brown bears (U. a. arctos), but the second is home to two huge male Kamchatka brown bears (U. a. beringianus) from eastern siberia (although Zooms specimen are from Moskva Zoopark) btw, the waterfall is huge for a manmade waterfall if it runs
My Best Brown Bear Habitats is from Domain of the Caves of Han, Zoo Osnabrück, Ouwehands Dierenpark, Pairi Daiza, Pakawi Park, Der Grüne Zoo Wuppertal, De Zonnegloed and Zoom Erlebniswelt.🐻🟤🥰❤ I like for Grizzly Bear🐻🌎🏞 to get so Huge Enclosure like circle⭕ with Natural Parts from Tongass National Forest🌎🏞, Big Cave for Nest🐻🛌 with a Waterfall more forward and Big Lake like Pool for Swimming🌊🐻. And for other Brown Bear Species, such us Eurasian Brown Bear🟤🐻🌍🌏 or European Brown Bear🟤🐻🌍 to get so Large Enclosure like European Forest🌍🌲 with Big Cave for Nest🐻🛌 and Big Lake for Swimming🌊🐻 and for Himalayan Brown Bear🟤🐻🌏🏔, so Large Enclosure too with Natural Parts from Himalayan Highlands🌏🏔 and of course for him Big Cave for Nest🐻🛌 & Big Lake for Swimming🌊🐻 with rocks around.
