I'm a 46-year-old woman, with Autism. When I was a kid, my pediatrician's "diagnosis" was, "She's just "shy." " Nobody really knew what I had; they just knew it was special needs. Nobody really knew anything, in the 80s and 90s. I was in Special Ed classes, in school, along with regular classes. I'm pretty well-read, so mostly my difficulties are with hand-eye coordination and visual/spatial awareness. I also struggled with Math and Science. Usually, I had to miss recess, to get extra help, but if I needed it, then I needed it. I still had to have Special Ed classes in junior high and high school. Even in college, I had to have extra help. Usually, I had to have special accommodations, to take my tests. This usually meant a distraction-free environment, the use of a computer, for essay questions, or the use of scratch paper, or a calculator, for Math tests. I wasn't diagnosed with anything until 2000, when I was 22, except at the time, it was called Asperger's Syndrome. Since then, I've received a bachelor's degree, with Honors, in Sociology, which was back in 2011. I've made friends, who are also on the Autism Spectrum. I live by myself, but near my parents. I became an aunt, four years ago, to an adorable niece, who's currently in preschool. I've dated around, and I've had a boyfriend. I write fanfiction stories, based off of a favorite 90s cartoon, Animaniacs. I have a therapist, who's also Autistic. I'm not saying my life is perfect, or that it's easy, but it's improved, significantly.

Brilliant video, and thank you to the ladies for sharing, it’s interesting you look at these young ladies, on the surface they look so ‘normal’ it’s impossible to see the struggles these women are facing on a day to day base, but people who don’t know and don’t understand judge and say ‘you are only mildly affected, no big deal’ yet just from this short video we can see how challenging life is for Autistic women. Thank you so much for doing this video and shining a light on the girls and women. (PS, I was diagnosed at 56! Now 63!)

Even though I’m male I can relate to just about all of these signs with the exception of the social anxiety sign. That’s one more example of the fact that no two people on the spectrum are the same.

Definitely. I think there's a good bit of misinformation out there with girls vs boys autism. Truthfully, we aren't that different, people just don't associate autism with femininity because of stereotypes.

I’m not autistic but I feel like I have a lot of the signs, I have social anxiety in public and I am extremely noise sensitive and I become overwhelmed when they are large crowds and I wander off and I really can’t tell time or count money, it’s extremely hard for me to make friends because I have a fear that I might not understand what they are talking or they might reject me from the group and that makes my social anxiety worse, but also I have sensory issues with different textures of foods or environments but I don’t like change at all and I have noise canceling headphones that I wear in public so that I don’t a meltdown or sensory overload, but I also get lost in different places and I remember when I was little I thought I was in the bathroom but I was actually in the kitchen so now someone has to go with me to the bathroom, but I actually obsess over things that I’m actually into, like I’m really into horses and dogs and I do horseback riding lessons and I also have 3 beautiful dogs but I really don’t get sarcasm, but I’m currently 22 years old and I don’t have an autism diagnosis and I don’t have an social anxiety diagnosis but my mom doesn’t think I have autism or social anxiety so in this comment let me know if theses symptoms are signs of autism and anxiety

Speech- Delay- another sign: I'm a Autistic woman with a mild learning- disability 😘 When I was diagnosed I had a rather significant speech- delay. I got diagnosed.. Earlier in life because I was developmentally- behind other kids my age then, so was a bit easier for someone like me to get picked up on earlier as a female..... Said with respect and love 💗 I caught up more to my peers around the age of 12 in terms of maturity and level of understanding

I am 13 f on the waiting list for my autism diagnosis. i dont really feel like i have perfectionism because im not really bothered about getting things perfect. I couldn't really keep friend since i mover allot because my dad was in the army i have kept one friend from the very beginning of school to this day. in my early years of school i had more of a relationship with the teachers them the other kids also i had more male friends then girls because i never could connect with them because i was more interested with the things boys did then girls. I am award in social situations even with friends that i am close with because they are so extroverted then me and i don't know what to say in emotional situations so i just sit there and try to think of what to say. I struggle with time awareness at home because i am constantly on my phone so i don't notice time going by. I don't think i need help with emotional regulation but i might not notice it. I struggle with telling people how i fell when i am bothered ill tell them how i fell but i struggle with telling them why. My school routine is not good my alarm is set for 6 most the time i wake up at 5 30 and that's the earliest i will get out of bed however this week was terrible on monday i woke up at one Tuesday i woke up of 3 Wednesday i woke up at 4 30 Thursday i woke up at my alarm and friday i woke up at 3 50 i leave for school at 6 30 and get there at 6 40 when school doesn't start until 8 25 and i go to after school clubs so i am at school for ten hours a day. I don't think i have social anxiety. I struggle with bright lights people moving around me physically touch repetitive noise not as much but enough to get set of like velvet headphone at school and a little of loud noise but it's not enough to go into meltdown i am also high making at school especially around certain people that i know will mock me so if something is bothering me i won't block it out i will just deal with it i hate fireworks. I sometimes trip over the floor because i don't pick my feet up high enough to not trip in raise floors and just walking in general i am also a toe walker also when i was younger i would hold something while I was walking and not realise i dropped it until I was far away from where it was dropped. I would like to vocal stim but i worried what people will say and star and i can't do it in a school setting because it was a distraction for everyone else. I love the rubics cube i love it because of the mind working and to wake up my mind and hands. I am slowly coming out of my shell and becoming more of myself but I've masked for so long i don't know who i am anymore around people. I think my special interest is a english band called mcfly they are a band that has been going for 21 years and I really want to go to there concert but i couldn't get tickets this year but i might get some in 2026 with their new album in 2 year.

sorry if im adding to much but there another example i like to share about when im having a hard time or something i like to explain. when I was at Monte Vista on a tuesday morning I was having a hard time cause i sometimes fidget alot and sometimes i would bring my sensory friend Snoopy with me to help me but often times my mom would check my backpack for toys and to leave them at home and it was kind of hard for me as a kid when ever i need something to fidget with it was kind of hard. like if im having a hard morning or a hard day i sometimes would go to a quiet place a read a book or sometimes fidget with toy cars or something. I don't like thinking about fire drills alot when i was in school cause that would cause sensory overload for me.

As an autistic trans guy I can relate to a lot of these. Although I don’t really have social anxiety. I often lose track of time and I also really struggle with controlling my emotions. I also really like routine and if my routine changes I can get pretty upset. I also am kind of hyper fixated on my favourite TV show the Backyardigans I’ve seen every single episode and remember just about everything that happens and all the episodes and quote the episodes

I would say it was hard for me to make friends when i was a kid even after i moved from Montezuma to Monte Vista. and there a story on that as well to. I remember going to Monte Vista and I was like by myself and um I was looking around monte vista like a kind of like star trek kind of thing and there was a ea that i had and I remember a young boy in my class Named Steven and he wanted to make sure i was okay and um he also had a younger sister who also had a disability as well to. and one time my ea and i was at the playground at Monte Vista and we were at the hill side area and it was kind of warm and my brother friend Zak and his friends came up to me and ask if i was doing okay. and Zak also help me to make some friends at Monte Vista as well to. I also remember going with my class to a tennis club and some of my friends from Montezuma saw me and many of them said hi to me at the pool party on the last day of school.
