I was born and raised in Dallas but Houston has become my home over the past 12 years. I'm so glad you and your wife enjoyed your time here and thank you for reiterating that it takes and open mind and an open heart. I hope you get the chance to come back soon, especially during the fall/winter. Happy holidays!
You made my old Texas heart swell with pride! ❤ Thank you! I thoroughly enjoy your videos, and just wanted to say you are welcome back anytime you are ready.
Shaun, I'm very proud that you so like my beloved home state of Texas. I think it's a great state, and yes, the people are great. Hope to see you go back again soon.
Texas girl, born and raised here, and my,my,my, props to your wifey! You look mighty handsome in that black cowboy hat, Shaun!! i’m so glad you enjoyed Texas as much as you did. There is a little town in West Texas called Buffalo Gap (where I grew up). It is home to a very interesting little museum, as well as home to Perini Ranch steakhouse, a very famous, in fact, world famous steakhouse that you must try if you’re ever in the area. I wish you much love and luck in all of your travel endeavors and love your videos so much. Cheers!!
Great video Shaun. Texas is such an important part of America's diverse culture. I would love to try their barbecue. Just watching others partake is a pleasure. Merry Christmas.
Hey we are having our one day of winter. It is currently 11 degrees Fahrenheit/ -11.67 Celsius with a wind-chill of -6 degrees Fahrenheit/ -22.11 Celsius. Cheers from DFW Texas.
Glad you had a good visit to the United State of Texas. Sorry about the heat. Lots of stuff to see and do in Dallas, too. Ya'll Come Back Now, Ya Hear.
You know that you and Teka are welcome to come back anytime! You need to come back in the spring to visit the Hill Country and attend some of our Highland Games and Celtic Festivals. We also have great thunderstorms during the spring season too.
Thanks for the kind words about our state. You and your lovely wife are always welcome to come back anytime you wish. Y’all are Texans now. Like a lot of us. Wish we had met while you were here. Stay safe and healthy. See you when you return.
As a Texas native, I'm so glad you got to enjoy so much of my home state. Would love to go back home, but it's not in the cards for now. It's like a whole 'nother country.
I’m from Michigan and in Texas for couple of months. Your “enormous “ word is apropos. This state is huge. I’ve been to BigBend National Park, been to Luchenbach TX, and all over West Texas. I absolutely love it here!! Awesome history. Will come again
Been following your journey through Texas. You did it all right! I don't think you missed a thing. Come back anytime! P.S. Big Red is good 24/7 with anything LOL!! --- Itacsa, TX
Shaun, if you want to get into a little more Texas history, look up the film "True Women." It was written by a woman from a little town just east of San Antonio called "Seguin" ("suh-geen" not "see-kwin"). Seguin is named after one of the Tejanos that fought with the Texians in the Revolution and had been stationed at the Alamo before Santa Ana came. The film "True Women" has Dana Delaney and Angelina Jolie (yes THAT Angelina Jolie) starring in it.
As a Texan of Scottish heritage (my grandmother and her sisters were born and raised in McAllen near Edinburg - I know they spelled that one wrong, but both Scottish-founded), I thought this was a great reaction to the state. And yes, you're always welcome. We've got enough people here who hate it. People who love it are always welcome.
When you were in Katy...you were about 40 miles down Interstate Highway 10 (I-10) from a small town called Columbus, Texas. It's one of the oldest incorporated towns in Texas.
I've loved the thunderstorms ever since I was a kid, especially at night. I go to sleep and you'll get thunder so close the house trembles and you wake up!
I live about 150 miles from Houston, just across he state line into Louisiana, and it was interesting to see you in places that I have been to a number of times like Galveston or the Kemah Boardwalk.
I'm so happy you enjoyed my hometown - San Antonio. Hope you can return and have more of our delicious Tex Mex food. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Next time your in San Antonio, you must try some Barbacoa tacos with Big Red. You might want to check out the Big Red and Barbacoa festival. I'd love to see a vlog on that.
hey shaun if you want to see a big aquarium, next time you come to the San Francisco Bay Area, just south of there is the Monterey Bay, and they have the huge Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was featured in the movie Star Trek IV The Voyage Home, identified as "the cetacean institute". It's so big that at one point they had Great White Sharks swimming in the tank! 🙂
My favorite things about Texas: Bluebell Ice Cream, the wildflowers in the springs (I miss bluebonnets!), kolaches, Texas State Fair corn dogs (at the fair, not the frozen store bought kind),.....
I was so glad to see this video and that Big Red made your list!!! I’ve just visited San Antonio for a month and I got to go visit my brother and his family in Pearland (outside of Houston). I always have so much fun in TX and I’m glad that you and your wife did too!!😊
I just watched this video, and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. The next time you get the chance to visit San Antonio, you should visit the Institute of Texan Cultures. There you'll find out more information about the role of Scots and descendants of Scots in the settling of this great state. Since you like cowboy culture and the rodeo, you should visit San Antonio during the Fiesta season. It's a massive series of celebrations, parties, and parades that stretch from February to just after Easter.
Watching this video made me think that you would appreciate the trip to the top if the St. Louis arches! It is quite the experience! So glad you enjoy my beloved home state of Texas. Come visit the Panhandle anytime.
As a fellow angler, let me say that you could make the fishing trip of a lifetime in Texas alone. You have such an amiable personality, you could probably gain sponsors and have a proper show.
When I worked as a contractor at White Sands they did fly-byes/fly-overs with the shuttle on the back of the jet. That was actually pretty cool. As a kid that grew up in Texas, I'm glad you got to meet some true Texans. We love everybody...unless you cross the line. Peace, Love!!
So glad you love our state! I am in Houston and will be visiting your lovely country in March 2023. We will be in Glasgow for most of our stay but maybe I can get to Edinburgh for a day or two.
Houston has Johnson space center which is ok but the problem is that they don’t launch anything at all. The only reason it’s out there is that it’s Mission Control for the space program and it’s the emergency landing spot for the shuttle when it comes back. The Kennedy space center is the one in Florida that launches constantly almost every day so a rocket goes up at least once a day depending on factors. Space X launches from Kennedy, every bit of space tech is displayed prominently including the huge Saturn 5 rocket. There is a new area that is being shown and that’s modern space exploration with space x and possible lunar habitation enclosure prototypes.
I came here to say the same thing. I've never been to the Houston one, it looks more like a mall. Cape Canaveral has a lot more real space stuff to see.
Yes if you want to see the rockets The Kennedy Space Center is where you want to go, Just for the history and seeing how these were all launched. Heck you might be there when one goes up.
Fun fact: the distance from Katy, just west of Houston, to Baytown, just east of Houston, is approximately 53 miles, more than the distance from Edinburgh to Glasgow!
Fun fact: Jim Bowie of Bowie Knife fame, his name was prounced Boo-ee (Buoy) because he was of Scottish descent. Not Bow-ee ( like David Bowie) which is the English pronunciation.
Yeah you really have just scratched the surface! I am glad you got to see some of the Houston area. I see a lot of people that just go to Dallas, and then the Austin/San Antonio area. My home city seems to get overlooked a lot, but there is just as much culture, and history here as the other cities.
I've never really understood why the area where NASA Houston is located is called Clear Lake. I guess Muddy Bayou wouldn't attract too many to want to live there. Hey Shaun I am so glad that you enjoy your time here in Texas and I do wish that you would come to visit us in South Texas on the Gulf Coast, Corpus Christi Bay, the Laguna Madre etc. As a fisherman you'd really like to be around here and there's lots of places to learn and explore both on the water and off. Hey to you and Teka I wish a Merry/Happy Christmas and a wonderful and prosperous New Year from my family to yours.
@@nuclearpoweredbrain2211 Sounds about right. Hey Merry Christmas, Happy and Prosperous New Year to you and yours and Happy next fishing trip!! Cheers from south Texas!!
As a native Texas I was wondering if you would do a video on things you found weird or odd about things you saw, or you had to do differently here that might not be common 2 you at home.
My DNA test takes me back to Clan Lesly. Trying to get back over to Scotland one last time to visit the castle. So glad you like Texas. You should come out west next time.
Hi Shaun, You almost fit right in in Texas with your cowboy hat and western wear. Now all you need to do to be an authentic Texan is to change your Scottish accent to a Texan accent; it can be done with practice!
Shaun.you and your lovely missus are a lucky couple.my very 1st Patreonship thingy.and 2nd,im a Fifer!!your content is ace.not bad for an Edinburgher and Brazilian(my all time fav International footy team:)
Ifr you are really into space and NASA, the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL is less touristy, more technical/educational. As to your list, not bad but personally don't care for Big Red. Do love the food there though, brisket, chicken fried steaks, Tex-Mex, etc. We have all those here but those three things, they excel at over my local options.
